MLP Nirvana / Princess Royal Blue Variant Price Check Please?
« on: May 22, 2021, 01:46:03 PM »
Hi everyone,

I was very lucky to find a Princess Royal Blue variant pony in a charity shop yesterday. She only cost me 99p! She is in lovely condition. I was wondering if anyone could advise me of her value? I can't see any sold ones on the eBay archives.

Thanks in advance  :)

I was visiting family this weekend and we went to a couple of charity shops. I rarely find anything, but was amazed to see six G1 ponies, including a Princess Royal Blue Variant! Only 99p each - I grabbed them pretty fast. They are in really nice condition, they just need a wash.

Any idea of the Princess Pony's value?  :)

I was just digging through LadyG's princess survey and she doesn't have an entry for an orange wand for Amethyst. I'm not saying it's not a variant wand, just that associating it with a particular pony would need a MIB image (UK accessories are not consistent).

And now looking at the Wiki, it suggests that the orangeish wand comes with the particular variant seen there, not Amethyst herself. Which I think is infinitely more likely, since there are certainly some odd accessories floating around from those weird franken releases. That would be my best bet but it would be more conclusive if you'd also found the pony.

There is also a pinkish wand that is known to come with Ruby as a variation, but it doesn't look as lucozadey as yours does.

Hey, thank you so much for this info, it is really helpful!

I'm almost 100% sure that it isn't yellowed - I've seen a lot of yellowing over the years and the plastic of this looks very clear and original. To me it looks the most like 'Princess Amethyst Variant II's' wand on My Little Wiki:

Not related to the wand itself, but may I just drop by to say I love Princess Cowboy a lot? And how the wand's tip looks like a sheriff's star and it fits so so well with the whole attire?

Haha, I agree! It looks like the wand was made for her, she's really rocking it.

I’ve got the original wand, I’ll post a pic of it soon.

That would be great, thank you very much!

I don't think so because it came from someone's childhood toys which had been in the loft for years and years :) On My Little Wiki it appears to be a variant for Princess Sparkle/UK Princess Amethyst  :) If anyone owns an original of this wand I'd be interested to see if mine is the same - it does look the same as the orange one on mylittlewiki.org.

Something this Darlin' Dino was holding caught my eye...is this the orange wand of Princess Amethyst? I have no idea how much it's worth, but must be more than 50p!

Off Topic / Re: eBay Tax Question?
« on: October 30, 2020, 05:24:28 AM »
TBH, to me it sounds like it's not a business, it's buying to collect and then reselling the bits you don't need, but the thing you would need to do is look at HMRC's page and see what they say about stuff like that.
In some places, it doesn't matter if it's a "business". If you earn $10, then that's $10 of income.

I've done some more research, and apparently £1000 is the yearly threshold you're allowed on eBay before you have to pay tax.

Should I then not worry about it at all because it's under £1000, even though my 'profit' on eBay looks like over £1000?

It's good to just have everything organized in case eBay reports whatever you made to whatever authority and you have the proof it wasn't the actual profit. I'm going to guess that the chances of that are pretty low, but it would be less stressful to be prepared.

This is just going to be my advice to most people, because it happened to my family. u_u;

I greatly appreciate the advice, thanks banditpony. I'm going to take better care to document it all now in the future, and will go back over this past year's sales to straighten it all out. Like I said I'm self employed, so very familiar with documenting my business sales and expenses :)

Thank you everyone for your advice! I truly appreciate it.

I am actually self employed, so I already have to do a self assessment for my small business in the UK. In which case, maybe the safest bet is to make a new folder for my eBay stuff in my file and keep track of price paid for each lot vs how much I made back, or if I simply broke even.

Like tailrustedtealeaf said though, it is good to track one's expenses, so maybe I should do it anyway for the sake of keeping up with my finances.

I've done some more research, and apparently £1000 is the yearly threshold you're allowed on eBay before you have to pay tax.

Let's just say that by the end of the year mine was up to £1500, but when I worked out my 'expenses' (e.g. the bundles/job lots of toys I bought), my profit from those sales was only actually £500, because most of the time I am just making back my money on the toys in the bundles that I don't want.

Should I then not worry about it at all because it's under £1000, even though my 'profit' on eBay looks like over £1000?

Off Topic / Re: Anyone get into horse riding as an adult?
« on: October 29, 2020, 03:31:55 PM »
I don't know if this helps, but I got back into riding recently after a 10 year long break. I started riding when I was 5 years old until I was 16, but had to give it up due to school taking over my life, and then university. I also fit the 'crazy horse girl' stereotype - my life was everything horses.

I got back into riding last year by chance, when I met someone who wanted her horse exercised on the weekend, as she had too many horses to keep on top of by herself. I really got the bug again after that, but then very sadly, her horse passed away as she was very old.

Now at 26 almost 27 years old, I'm having private lessons (although they are on hold because of the virus). The first lesson was terrible - in that I was so rusty, it was embarrassing! Haha. But by my 8th lesson (the last one I had), I had improved so much and am feeling more confident.

My advice would be, have a few private lessons and see how you feel. I had horrid instructors when I was a child too, but as an adult it's a very different story and my new teacher is fantastic.

As lessons are expensive, I do think it's good to have some sort of goal in mind. For me, that goal is to be a competent enough rider that I would be able to buy a horse in a few years down the line and be confident enough to ride out alone and know all of the stable management stuff.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you!

Off Topic / eBay Tax Question?
« on: October 29, 2020, 03:24:38 PM »
Hey guys,

Like many of you on here, I collect several different types of toys. My rule to myself though, is that I can never actually spend any money. So I will never buy at 'full price', but purchase toys in lots where I can sell some of them on and know that I can break even, or sometimes even make a little profit when I re-sell. I don't do it for 'business' - it's my way of justifying my purchases on a budget, as it were  ;)

I've actually made over £1000 this year, which I'm surprised at. Not all of it is toys though - some of it is furniture we sold, clothes we cleared out, homeware stuff etc. The question is, do I need to pay tax on these sales, even though the money is pretty much levelling out? If I calculated it all, my profits would be small overall vs what I paid, or else non-existent.

E.g, I recently bought a nice lot of 60s Barbie items for £75. I will probably sell a few outfits and shoes and make that back, but keep the rest, so will break even and thus feel happy that I can keep the rest of the bundle for my collection.

If anyone else justifies their collecting habits by buying in lots and selling back some of it as I do, do you worry about paying taxes on these sales? I've never thought about it before because I've never made this much in a year on eBay, but I think with the virus this year, I've been buying more toys than usual, being stuck at home a lot and everything

Any advice is much appreciated, thank you!

Thank you for the advice StrawberryFair, I guess I'll just have to wait it out then :( And that is infuriating LadyMoondancer. 'The customer is always right' is such a harmful bias. :(

« on: January 15, 2018, 10:08:51 AM »
Hi everyone,

I recently sold a large lot of ponies for quite a high price. The bidder had a (0) feedback score, which had me worried from the start. 2 days have passed and they haven't paid or responded to my messages. Pretty sure they aren't going to either.

What are my options? Do I have to wait so I can open a case against them, then wait it out, then finally able to close the case and relist? I've had to do this in the past, and it's taken a number of weeks before I can actually relist. It's a huge waste of my time...I just want to be able to relist the ponies asap.

Please can anyone advise me on this? Thank you <3

Off Topic / Re: Should we 'Grow out of Toys'?
« on: December 29, 2017, 01:17:20 AM »
Okay, so maybe my point wasn't a perfect fit for this thread. This is just something that has been bothering me for a while, from the moment I started to notice that the whole "I don't want to adult" attitude is on the rise. When this thread was started, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to address this, because to me it seems like it's closely related, even though it isn't directly about toys. I just felt that the topic title could also be interpreted as "Could it potentially be harmful to stick to your childhood too much?"

My bad. :)

No, I totally understand what you are talking about. My friend and I were just talking about that exact thing a few months ago! I think that it has a lot to do with the millennial generation struggling, being poor and not being able to afford the bare minimum. All that comes with being an adult as a millennial and so they long to go back to the childhood days where they don't have to worry about bills and crippling debt and 2017 as a whole.
Add social media into the mix and connect everyone together and you get flooded with nostalgia and ads marketing to that dreamy childhood nostalgia.... and then comes all the unicorn and mermaid stuff marketed towards both children and adults because both can relate to it. Th millenial generation is on the cusp of adulthood in their 20s so many are either planning to have families or already have them, and what better way to grab the attention of consumers than to market to both them AND their children. Makeup trends right now are big into the unicorn mermaid stuff. Sailor Moon made a huge comeback recently too.

Of course, this is all good and well at face value but maybe a fraction, even if it's only a tiny miniscule fraction IS about adults not wanting to grow up and face the world. It's a double-edged sword. There does have to come a time where we must prioritize bills and each other over the material, but the "i dont want to adult today" mentality is just kind of damaging. We all grow up so fast and are trust into adulthood without ever really discovering ourselves, so we seek solace in these material possessions to comfort us. I know I do.

I also find myself holding back on displaying all my toys and figures and ponies in my room for fear of not feeling like an adult. I don't know what I am really trying to say...I guess what I am trying to say is a totally get what you were saying originally with your first post.

This is really nicely put :) I can completely understand what you're saying and agree with you.
