Title: New G1s + Weird Medley
Post by: tailrustedtealeaf on October 27, 2017, 05:57:32 PM
Went by the toy store I mentioned in my other brag thread, so here's my gets!

Some of them need some TLC, which is good, as it lets me work on restoration I hadn't needed to do yet for G1s. And I love pony projects anyway!
But could anyone tell me what's up with my Medley? Her tail is green, but her mane is more blue...

I just broke her neck seal because she was black and moldy inside (yuck) so I wouldn't assume she's been rehaired. Does the green fade to blue overtime? It doesn't seem to be much different at the roots so everything seems uniform, and her hooves don't say anything special or note that she's been rehaired.
Maybe it is just faded hair? Am I looking too much into this?  :drunk:

Yeah, probably just fading or something. Since everything else seems normal about her and her head hadn't been taken off before, I'd say that's the most likely explanation.

Congrats on your new ponies!

Sounds like fading or a weird factory batch. Congrats on your ponies.

Congrats on all the great ponies!! :)

I would also think the mane on Medley is just faded from being exposed to the sun for a long time while the tail was hidden, like on a shelf or something.

What a lot of nice G1 ponies you found.  I am with the fading explanation on Medley's hair, especially Teddy's suggestion that her tail may have been hidden while on a shelf. Congrats on your finds :D

Was Medley one of those who had two possible hair colours? I know some of the blues have a couple of shades that were interchangeable, perhaps by accident (water nixie/atomic turquoise I think it was?). I ask this because I had a partially rehaired Medley, and the new hair was a completely different colour, much greener like this pony's tail. Maybe the match was wrong because some Medley's do in fact have that greener shade from factory? Maybe this Medley is key to the realisation that not all Medley's have the same hair colour? Interesting...

Ooh I have Dancing Butterflies too, she is probably one of my favourites because she is just so stunning to look at! Also congrats on your new ponies.

re: Medley hair -
I reckon the factory had two batches of that hair colour, but made at different times, so the hair put in the special sewing machine (for the mane) was a different lot to the hair used to make the tail.

The batches then colour-faded at a different rate over the years - I assume.

A bit like wool / yarn / wallpaper - you can buy the same colour but need the same batch number due to dye variations when they manufacture it on different days!  :satisfied:

Lovely finds!

As a kid, when ponies were softer,  I pulled out tails without taking off heads so I could squeeze water out.  She could just have a replacement from some other pony...  I did that once too.   My poor ponies.

Could be...I opened her up and the hair on the inside doesn't seem to have too different a color than that on the outside, so some sort of batch issue seems likely.

But it's just a theory...a pony theory.
I honestly can't tell if the color it SHOULD BE should be the mane's or the tail's just from stuff online.

My collection one has the more blue-ish green that matches her body colour, but my rehaired one that has since moved along, had that colour, but her rehaired sections were the greener shade, like your pony's tail. So they either fade to that blue/green (sea nymph?) from the greener colour (lucky clover?) (yellow tones do fade faster than blue-ish ones) or there was a factory error, and both a sea nymph and a lucky clover version exists.
