Title: cleaning dirt from So Soft ponies
Post by: kellyponyfeathers on January 27, 2012, 01:25:32 AM
So I've gotten some really nice So Soft ponies lately with great flocking, like a barely-played-with Bouncy and a display-only Twilight.      But Bouncy still has some light surface dust/dirt, and Twilight has some dirty patches from who-knows-where (looks like maybe some dirt got into her bubble before she was decarded).  So are there any suggestions for cleaning them?  I don't want to just grind the dirt/dust in farther.  (Bouncy especially looks like the dust is just on the outer tips of her fuzz, while Twilight's looks like it goes in deeper.)  I don't want to immerse either of them in water; I think that causes flocking to sort of roll up into little balls of fuzz.  And they've got great original curl (I don't think Twilight has ever really been brushed), so I don't want to touch it or get it wet.

I took a so soft Scrumtious into the shower with me, and washed her with shampoo and conditioner. I used my hands to gently wash her flocking, and she came out lovely! No flocking was damaged when I was cleaning her.

TBH I clean my SS ponies in a slightly warm or cool (but definitely not hot) Oxyxlean/ Vanish oxy-action (pink tub) bath. The oxyclean will remove the dirt but being in cool water (and if you dont scrub the pony) the flocking will be fine ;) . Allow the pony to dry naturally after - dont towel dry her- and the flocking should be ok. If you dont want to wet the hair, just hold the ponies in the oxyclean bath or balance them so that the hair doesnt touch the water. Rinse the pony in cool water to remove any oxyclean left after the bath :relaxed: Thats what i do anyways and I havent had any problems

I don't think this will help if you don't want to get them wet, but I have some info here:

Maybe the spray on OxiClean would work for you?

Here's some info from my own trials:

I use oxiclean on mine, use hot water to dissolve and let the mixture cool to room temp before using :)

I then run the pony under cold water, then toss them in my mix and use an old toothbrush to gently scrub :)

I've always used cool water and gently hand washed them with shampoo and conditioner.  It works great; I've never had an issue with losing flocking.  I've noticed that putting a little conditioner on the pony's flocking also makes them feel nice and soft.  :)

I love ss ponies!  :lovey:

When I clean mine, I rinse them with cool water, and then using just my hands, wash them with shampoo, rinse again with cool water, and then I'll cover them with some Aussie three minute miracle conditioner.  I let that set for a couple of minutes, and then yet another cool water rinse and let them air dry.  The conditioner makes them really soft! If I have one with some stubborn dirt, I'll very gently scrub them with a SOFT toothbrush.  My SS's are some very pampered girls!

The shampoo + conditioner method worked for me. If you have a nice conditioner, use it, because it does make a difference. =) If there's still dirt in her flocking, you can use a toothbrush to gently remove it.

Afterwards, make sure that you pat her dry.
