I think they experimented but went back to their sure fire seller, rather than trying to compete. And probably, there are enough established 'horse mould' toys even now that they wouldn't see it as profitable.
I would be ecstatic if they brought back fashion star fillies, not so much dream beauties tho!
They likely won't attempt them again, I think. Hasbro has a tendency to forget some things existed... especially when they didn't last very long.
I would love, however, to see them do something like Dream Beauties or even their never made Irresistibles.
Fashion Star Fillies were sold in the 1980s by Kenner before that company was acquired by Hasbro in 1991. Dream Beauties were created after that so... I think in a since Fashion Star Fillies inspired Dream Beauties a little
The trim and grow beauties were, I think, sold WITH scissors. Certainly there's a very disturbing image in the Hasbro catalogue I have which shows "How to cut the pony's hair!" so trim and grow was not coincidental. I guess you vandalise your pony then put in the other plugs? I dunno. Very bad design idea.
There are some really beautiful FSF ponies. I got rid of most of mine but I do have one with the fancy patterns on her body. I think she's a teal kind of shade. Those are very pretty.
I always had FSF on my birthday and Christmas lists as well as MLP. I never had any, only MLP. I wonder what my family would have done if DBs had happened here..."Yay, MLP + FSF! Two in one!" possibly..?

One never knows with Hasbro.

So would I. I wanted them so badly as a kid, never had any. Maybe we should try putting a bug in Basic Fun's ear?

Here's a link to the Irresistables on the Wiki.

They look like they were maybe based on FSF molds? The trim and grow beauties were, I think, sold WITH scissors. Taffeta is the same image you have?

My mom would not by me any toy where cutting hair (even if it was fake) was the main selling point.
Ponyfan
In a way they were kinda in the G4 show; https://mlp.fandom.com/wiki/Saddle_Arabia_delegates
Yes. That's the same image.
Edit, actually, maybe it's not the same image? Or a less zoomed out one? I dunno? Now so confused...
*shudders*. Hasbro ,please DO NOT tell kids to cut pony hair. EVER! Though my catalogue has no caption and just has the cutting image.
Hang on. I'll upload it.
Edit: Here you go.
Isn't that more terrifying than the other one? Just presented like that??
And yes. Irresistibles. I should read threads more closely.
How can they be "All Grown Up" MLPs when plenty of regular MLPs had their own daughters? :what:

Who knows? Maybe its like Pokemon evolution and DBs were there final form.

They all have a Megastone.
That advert is horrific to watch and I don't even like Barbie.
And Hasbro only gave ONE refill for the T&G beauties.
My ones fortunately have uncut plugs of hair but I don't have the alternate colour/refill ones, so I can guess what happened at some point in their life.
Kid "Wow, I can cut the hair!"
Kid (ten minutes later) It didn't grow back.
Kid (cries)
Mother (replaces hair with other colour) don't cut it again then!
Trim & Grow is sort of false advertising really.
I mean, Brush and Grow Tails sort of grew. And I had a couple of these as a kid

Off topic butSpoilerFor some reason I remember the Ice Skater is called Holly. I definitely had her. The skates didn't fit ponies. The other one I had was called Polly, had red hair, and jelly shoes. Which also didn't fit ponies...you see a theme here. I didn't like dolls as a kid but those fascinated me with their hair thing to the point I remember them, their names, and kept them when I cleared a bunch of old toys from the attic a few years ago. Now if Hasbro had done something like that as an evolution of the BnG trick, then sign me up...
Instead they give scissors and encouraging haircutting. Not good.
I just realised that to take pictures of the prototypes for the catalouge, they had to make 1 of each. That means at there's at least 1 of each irresistible, plus 1 prototype of all the ponies that were released.
I don't know where they would be now but it's possible they're in storage somewhere.
Idk may just be me but I'm hopeful they're still out there.
With as lot horse-ish fanart as I see and the beta g5 (art from leak) hooved, we'd have next gen just be like that :(
I liked DB, but as a part.

Idk if this is relevant but researching both Dream Beauties and Fashion Star Fillies, I would say I understand why DB failed compared to FSF.
FSF was all in all better, the colour schemes matched, the hair was beautiful, they didn't rely on gimmicks, their ponies had some backstory (not in the form of a story) their faces were a bit more stylised but still fitted with them overall. They came with more than just a comb and ribbon.
This may be more of an opinion but they're like actually grounded more in reality (i.e ones a mysterious Arabian from Paris, instead of a pony that takes girls from their world into ponyland) like with me, I would imagine me being in ponyland but with FSF I could imagine them popping up in a horse show in like the real world.
Why I believe DB failed, their horses just had regular straight hair, they had less appealing designs and their colours were a mixed bag, they had like a few temporary gimmicks. Perfume ponies would eventually run out of perfume cream, the trim n grow ponies might be subjected to real scissors and the other 4 didn't have any gimmick that would stand out.
The absolute biggest thing is there's no character, no story about their line or about them, they only had names while FSF had Jolene, Chloe, Tamara who had a story. The characters are important to sell, the best example is G4 with the mane 6.
