After buying Shine Bright Fluttershy, I decided to turn my original into Wind Whistler, since she had the same hair colour.

Very cute. Wind Whistler is one of my favorite G1 ponies. You may want to smooth the paint a bit (mainly by her wings). Overall a good custom, especially since you didn't have to go through the horror that is rehairing.  :silly:

The paint is actually rather smooth, but I made the mistake of using nail polish for clear-coating and it cracked.

Oh. Yeah, now that I think about it it looks more cracked than bumpy. I guess you could just fill in the cracks by the wings and cutie mark and it would look cleaner.

There wouldn't be any point. It's all going to peel off because of the polish. I'm going to have to let it, then repaint and clearcoat her with something else.

If you like this, you might also want to check out the custom I did of Megan as an adult.

Nail polish shouldn't be used on ponies, but we all learn as we go along :). There are a lot of common dos and dont's outlined in some of the tutorials in the stickies at the top of the customs forum. Aikarin has a GREAT FAQ section that I recommend looking over http://www.aikarin.com/mlp/customs/customfaq.html

No offence.
But I find it very insulting and hurtful you leave such a rude comment on my work when your own attempts are far from superior.
I understand you're new to this and I don't mind constructive criticism but please take peoples feeling into consideration before you start offering 'fixes'.

NoDivision is right however. Nail varnish never works on ponies. It it too thick and doesn't adhere to the plastic properly.
Read some tutorials to help you before you try this again.

The site NoDivison recommended is amazing. The site I first started with was  http://planetmyhill.com/CustomCove/Tutorials/Customizing_for_beginners.html

I'm sorry Rainbowjuice. Although in return, I take offence at being called "new at this".

I know the polish doesn't work, I actually read that tutorial shortly after I'd finished coating Wind Whistler.

Please keep this topic civil.

Customizing is all about learning. I think thats where the fun is. Experimenting with new things helps us grow as artists, even when things dont work out exactly as planned. I think she is quite cute, I love wind whistler.
