Gold Leafing?
« on: February 13, 2012, 08:57:16 AM »
Has anyone tried it on a pony before either for detail or to cover the body? Any examples of gold/silver/bronze leafing would be amazing :) I am assuming it sticks ok with the strong adhesive you would use normally?

Edit: I think I would mostly be interested to know if it looks different from metallic paint if applied

I bought some of that and tried it. Couldn't get it to hold :(   I used varnish to give the body some stickiness, but alas... It didn't turn out the way I wanted it to.
Maybe someone here knows a good technique.

I dont know if there are other methods but I use that glue stuff that you leave and it becomes tacky as it hardens? Wonder if ponies are too smooth... (p.s. no idea what the stuff is called, slipped my mind..I want to say shellac..)

I've never tried any other method, but I'm guessing metallic gold paint blotted on the body with a cotton ball could give the same effect?

I think some customizers here have tried it.

I have used it successfully several times on ponies - i just use the glue that you are supposed to use with goldleafing - the thing is you have to make sure it is sealed really well.
