it was just super windy and cloudy. scary windy, like when a tornado is nearby. now it's sunny. that's Texas for you

we're supposed to have some bad weather tonight. so far most of the really bad weather has stayed to the north of us.

i have a ton of work related pet peeves but one of my top peeves is when people message "Hi" in the work chat. and wait for a response before saying what they want. seriously say what you want! i have one from mid last week when i was on PTO. "Hi" no context. no follow up. i'm just going to assume it wasn't important and they asked one of the other people on the team. i refuse to enable this behavior. this person does this all the time too.

for a while i just didn't respond until i got a follow up. unless it was someone higher in the org chart. and it worked. but i started to feel bad so i fell back to responding to "Hi". no more!

also when my manager messages and says "Hi. do you time for a quick call?" it scares me to death. i wish people would say "Hi. do you have time for a quick call about <thing the call is about>" especially if the call won't happen until later in the day. it's like some people aren't anxious basket cases like me so they don't have these fears. seriously given no context i will fear the worst.

back to work today. i kind of hate taking longish (more than 2 days) breaks because there is so much to catch up on. how do people in countries where it's common to take a month off do it? I also don't understand why people message when it's clear someone is on PTO? rude.

i'm glad to get back to my usual routine but i'm also already tired :D

everyone,

i've been trying to find a solution to add an additional monitor to my work computer. it's a Mac Air M1 so it doesn't support 2 monitors without a docking station. my work doesn't pay for accessories which isn't really a big deal since i already have monitors that i like and the ones they provided when we worked in person were low resolution. however the monitors i have use USB-C cords and every docking station that claims to support 2 monitors on the Mac Air M1 are HDMI. i have tried several converters that didn't work. and all of the ones i can find are designed to allow an HDMI monitor to plug into a USB-C port. i like these monitors and i'm not buying new ones to accommodate this stupid work computer. so for now i'm just out of luck.

i know it's meaningless at this point but that's definitely unconstitutional. hope the oil money is good DeStantis! Shame on the press for going along.

He also signed a bill the same day that prohibits rural workers to take breaks or drink water. I wish I was making this up.

Abbot did something similar here for cities that passed laws requiring 10 minute water breaks every 4 hours. I can't imagine that a 10 minute break affects productivity. even if it did that doesn't matter. it's just cruelty under the guise of protecting business. absolute ghouls.

There was a Miami Tribune article today about how hot it is in Miami and that "no one knows why". DeSantis made any mention of climate change from media or press illegal in Florida. Yeah, no one can say "climate change" or "global warming" or anything else that hints at it. So when the news reports the temperature it sounds like it's a big mystery. So dumb.

thanks Artie and PBW.

i feel a lot better now that the funeral is over and the travel anxiety is gone. while i'm on PTO i'm trying to get some of the tasks i've been putting off for way too long. i always tend to clean and get really focused on decorating and rearranging stuff when i'm upset or feeling like stuff is out of control. it's my way of having some control in all of the chaos. next week my husband is supposed to start trying to get some honest answers on what's going to happen with his parents' house, finances, etc. so that will be a whole other round of stress.

Artie, i hope everything works out well

PBW yay for getting out of the house and having good company :)

HOT HOT HOT! i have a feeling this summer will be miserable. on a brighter note, we've had so much rain lately that the drought is over in some parts of the state. we're still in "dry" status but it's much better than last year.

it's been a while since i posted an update. most of the plants are doing well. except the petunias, which were eaten by an unknown animal or bug. they were pretty while they lasted :( also the snapdragons are dying off in the heat. i need to plant them earlier next year. the sunpatients are loving all the rain and still blooming like crazy :) so are the knockout roses.

the avocado plant is making a comeback too. i realized i was overwatering so i left it alone for a while and cut the dead branches. i see a lot of new growth starting. also the lemon tree finally arrived and is doing well. i added some ceramic pieces to the bottom of the pot when i planted it. i wish i had done the same to the avocado. if they do well i want to get more next year.

i also trimmed back the bushes in the front yard. they were growing pretty wildly so i had a lot of clippings. i also pruned the crepe myrtle again. the builders planted it right by the sidewalk so if i don't prune it blocks the path  i also managed to step in an ant bed which was not good.

Minty Magic, the mirror looks great! the whole space looks really beautiful :lovey:

i want to go do something fun since i'm still on PTO. but i'm tired :( everything i can think of to do involves walking and driving a lot.

yeah Snapdragon that's the main reason i didn't join any pony groups back when i used Facebook. i like to keep my online interests more anonymous. even before doxxing was really a thing.

i generally think stuff online should be more anonymous. there are most definitely issues but it's not like Facebook or other more unsavory social media sites that require people to scan ids have no hate content. also sites can ban with IP addresses. IDK. it seems like smaller, more topical forums can do a better job of moderating even if people are fairly anonymous. i've never been a mod on a forum so i don't know what kind of content mods do end up removing. the mods here do a good job.

i tend to think a lot of the reason why Facebook wants you to have 1 account and give them so much information is for data harvesting anyway. it benefits them, not you. i've been seriously thinking about deleting a lot more of my social media accounts. i never log into Facebook anymore because it generally ends up making my angry. i still can't really understand why it still exists. i guess there aren't any good alternatives and Meta does monopolistic stuff to stifle competition. Instagram is pretty terrible and i still use it. At least there it's easy to make accounts for specific interests.

and the whole "if you're not doing anything wrong you have nothing to worry about" doesn't work if someone mistakes you for someone else online.

Also not 100% related but on another thread Taffeta pointed out that if you're setting up a website with a domain you purchase you should always choose to keep the website owner information private. in the US it's usually called "whois protection". otherwise you can accidentally publish your address if you're using your home or work address when you register the domain.

My daughter is learning letters today and has started to say the phonic names for letters in the word d u c k, because it's her favourite word. We were using giant foam letters to learn with. When she brought over to me the letter F I kept telling her that we didn't need it to say 'duck' but for some reason she insisted. I keep having the strange impression that she has lived many lives before.

LOL!!

i wish we could have early general elections in the US. i think it's something only in parliamentary governments and from what i understand the UK has much better campaign finance laws so the elections are less miserable and shorter.

unhappy clarification
Spoiler
Taffeta, the "secure a better future for our children" talk was something i also noticed it from Liz Truss. It's very similar phrasing associated with white nationalists and super far right people here in the US. except the white nationalists say "white children". it could be nothing. but i didn't like seeing it again

Also i finally got the doors hung up on the Billy shelves i bought for the living room. they were so much easier to hang than i thought they would be. i'm going to order some for my pony shelves :)

thanks PBW :) everything went ok with our trip to Houston and my MIL's funeral. i'm glad to be back home. also my husband seems to be in a better mood now.

i'm on PTO for the rest of the week and Monday is a holiday so i'm going to do more work around the house. i need to do some cleaning too. the house seems to get messy even when no one is here

i'm sorry Ponyfan   It takes time but it does get better.  for me it helped to look at photos.  my phone screen is still a photo of my Moose, who died in 2020 and Jessie, his BFF who is still with us.  it makes me smile when i see it.

my complaint today is i'm tired from the last couple of days. Also i think one of my dogs got into something while she was staying at my parents'. she has a couple of itchy spots. i need to give her a bath.
