I got a really nice movie Firefly from the thrift store. She looks awesome but is really hard. :what: If you have one could you tell me how yours is? I wonder if it's plasticizer leaking out or if she was made from a harder plastic. She feels hard like G2's and some of the G3's.
-
My childhood movie-version Firefly feels just like all my other G1's. Maybe you got one that hardened over time?
-
Hard as a rock! Took me 10 times warming up water in the tea kettle to even get her slightly loosened up. My hands hurt taking her apart...
PS here's a pic, I'm quite proud of her restore:

mlp4me: Your Firefly is stunning! Awesome restoration.
So we've got two hard ones and one soft. Hmmm...
-
China/Hong Kong difference maybe? They would use different plastics...so I guess different levels of degrading in the plastic is always possible...
@mlp4me...awesome restore!
-
I'll check her feet when I get home tonight to check country of origin... (I'm pretty sure she's China.)
(Thanks for the restore lovin', she trashed 2 threaders while I rooted her because she's so hard!)
Edit: Yep, China version. :)
-
Mine is China. So maybe that's the difference.
-
I cannot recall ever seeing one that was not Made In China. I could very easily be wrong though. Even so, I have had several in my hands, and they are all pretty hard. I think it is a rarity to come across a squishy one.
-
o.o Wow, I never realized mine was anything special since she was just like all my others! lol. Maybe being kept in a backpack in a basement for 15 years was good for her? >.>;;
-
Mine's pretty solid.

I had only ever seen China ones until I posted something on the old Arena last year about ponies which had HK and China versions and someone had a HK version...I cant remember who it was though but I remember being amazed as it wasnt one I had expected! I ll see if I can find the info...
-
Mine's also definitely harder than my other ponies. Which is probably good, since she's the one who's always falling off my shelf :P She's marked China.
-
Mine's a bit hard too. Not as hard as the FF ponies become but almost.
-
Ok, so it seems normal that she's hard. That's good to know. Thanks to everyone who replied! @MsTwilight I didn't know the FF ponies are hard too. That's interesting to know. I've never seen one in person.
-
I've had my Movie Firefly since childhood, and she is like a rock. It was KILLER to get her head off - I should have just plopped her in boiling water like mlp4me did!
-
Mine's super hard. I'm so glad she's minty mint so I don't have to struggle with her head!
-
I've noticed that pose tends to be really prone to hardening, which is a shame as its my favorite pegasus pose. :/ I'm blanking out on which of the other ponies I have in that mold but she's also hard enough to double as a hammer!
-
Mine's hard as a rock.
-
Mine is solid as a rock too, but she's been that way since I bought her new from the store. ;)
-
I doubt there's a Hong Kong version, as she was released in Year 9, at which point Hasbro was making all its ponies in China, as far as I know.
I used to have this pony and her body was definitely harder than the average pony's.
-
I've had a few, and all are on the hard side but still "squishable".
(Double checked- she's quite hard!)
This happens to some older Barbies too - the heads harden and shrink - size difference looks obvious because it's just the head (not the body) and it's out of proportion. Wonder if the hard Fireflys have shrunk at all too?
Semi-off topic... you can shrink some plastics by soaking them in a chemical...

Both on mine are rock solid,
Hkat, I think you were thinking about my post on Pat Pen vs. Non; it was not China V. HK.
-
Mine's super hard too and made in China.

I've had my movie version Firefly (wrong tape in pic) since childhood and she has always been particularly harder than any other G1 I've come to own. I think this may be part of the reason why she was my childhood favorite, always hard and tough :P

That will be EXACTLY what I was thinking of!!! I knew there was a difference somewhere - thank goodness I am not going completely cracker jack yet! Thank you sweetie!
