Pony Corral / Re: Maud Pie blind bag-sized
« on: September 18, 2015, 04:56:46 PM »

I think they are also popular with the target audience. Kids tend to like to act out their favorite scenes and all the accessories and playsets are good for that and because they are smaller they are more affordable than a huge plastic castle. If anything is to blame it's toy trends favoring tiny stuff again.

This. Most popular toys at the moment have several sets of blind bags (Moshi Monsters was almost exclusively made of tiny figures, as are Shopkins, etc, Pokemon was HUGE on this too, and Disney's Tsumtsums work on the same logic - for a canon that has a LOT of characters, small and cheap is the best way because most people will want all their favourites). Plus, it's likely easier to get people to spend more via lots of little purchases than one large one.

I think these new blind bags look great! I'm pretty much done with collecting them personally, but I love the playsets and really hope they'll continue to bring them out until you can have a whole miniature Equestria

This. Blind bag/blind box and minifigs are huge in the toy world today, with the help of Funko making them big with the adult market. (Say what you want about Funko, but I see their toys all over people's offices on my college campus.) Barnes and Noble and Books A Million have their own shelves dedicated to blind bags, for crying out loud, and they're bookstores! Bookstores! Heck sometimes I go into Claire's because of all the adorable things they have there and Shopkins have infected that store too. (And before that they were selling Toki Doki Neon Star blind bags.) Back in my day they just sold jewelry for tweens and did ear piercing! *waves cane around*

And while it'd be nice to believe Hasbro would do something like break away from what's popular, who are we kidding. Toy companies don't work that way. If a gimmick goes big, you hold on to it like a life raft and ride it out till the bitter end. I mean, they're still doing Equestria Girls which we all know is a riff off of Monster High, why stop riding the blind bag wagon?

And honestly I like the blind bags BECAUSE it's the only thing they seem to put effort in with new molds and everything. I mean, I loved the original Water Cuties (the ones that just have water filled wings don't do it for me, they have to be full-on PONY SNOWGLOBES for me) but even those were just the normal molds hollowed out with transparent plastic. :\

(And blind bags are there mostly to appeal to bronies? Hahah no, let's stop using bronies as the bogeyman for Hasbro putting out toys we don't like, I've seen kids that like blind bags, and Muffin pony, and DJ-PON3. Heck, I've seen adults post to say, Funrise's Facebook asking where in the world can they find the Muffin pony plushes for their children since they've been AWOL since their initial release.
(Well okay you can complain about bronies when it comes to say, Hot Topic merch or whatever....)

Also, I never really feel like it's the nicest thing to complain about releases and saying what they like is the death of pony or whatever when there are already posts with people being excited about them. Okay you don't have the same taste in toys, but we're not even talking bronies, we're talking other Arena members, let them enjoy pony in their own way and let's not alienate them by saying what they like isn't real pony or whatever. That's just not cool.

I know the CrazyPonyLady has found Celestia and Cadence over at Family Dollar, so it may depend where you live. (I think CPL is up in New England.)

So while I don't have pics have some video reviews...? XD

Pony Corral / Re: New Walmart exclusive blind bag set
« on: July 23, 2015, 09:55:47 AM »
It is too bad you have to get all the common ones to get the rarer ones in there.

I'm pretty sure that's always been the point of these giant exclusive sets, and pretty much why I'm personally glad there's nothing new for me in there vs say, the TRU blind bag set from a year or so ago. Sorry, can't be bothered to buy a whole set for two new ponies and one recolour to look like Luna.

And yeah, I remember the Royal Wedding set was one of the very first I picked up. They seemed fairly common in Missouri, which is where I was at the time.

I was sad to see they were priced at $18.50 each.

Whaaaaa....? Butbut... that's the price of the full sized Funkos. At least they had the decency to knock down Spike's price!

You are tearing me APART, Funko!

Pony Corral / Re: Wow Oriental Trading!
« on: July 17, 2015, 01:56:00 PM »
Wow, these guys are still around? I remember as a kid my mum ordered ONE THING from a catalog so after that we started getting ALL THE CATALOGS... Oriental Trading Company was my favourite to look at. A big thick catalog of party supplies and what looked like the contents of an arcade's prize store... what was there not for a kid to love?

I don't remember them doing much licensed stuff at the time, but I suppose that's fairly inevitable!

kissthethunder> Well they DO mostly sell in bulk... although these sets are smaller than I remember. Some stuff you can only get sets of 100 pieces.

cutegladgirl> You also trying the Wal-Mart website gamble? I got so sick of hearing other people around where I live commiserate on the lack of three packs that I bought six and got three unique ones (the ones I listed.) So they're not shy about sending doubles (I'm sure they just stuff them in boxes in the warehouse...)

Sorry for the response lag, a) I kinda thought the welcome train slowed down and b) by the end of the week I am often just tired.
And heh, I was planning to change out my avatar for something that would read better smaller, but you guys like it so much I would kinda feel bad if I did!

Jordan> Like I said, I know a lot of people who have lived one place their whole lives who will rag on it all the time, at the same time, they can't imagine living anyplace else. Humans are such silly creatures.

Spinky69er> Eee! Batty was definitely my favourite part of Fern Gully.  :silly:

Bekuno> Eeee thank you so much! (Gah and I need to check out the person who did your avatar!) Man I miss when they made toys of way more pony species than they do now. (Toy-wise I don't even feel like crystal ponies should even count as something really new and G4 breezies are only blind bags...) Of course Hasbro would probably think bat ponies are too "scary" for little girls (shows what they know, one of my friends had a G1 fancharacter back in the day that was a pony with dragon wings!)
Though we all REALLY know they just don't want to make more molds. IT'S LE HARD.

hathorcat> Thanks for the welcome! I probably will pop around there sometime, it's honestly been so long since I've been active on a forum I'm still kinda shy. (I took a very long break for the sake of my sanity...)

achab1984> Thanks for the welcome, and hello to you, too!

ponyqueen> Hey there, Sarah! Your watercolour work is amazing! I admire anyone who can handle that medium! I'll have to keep an eye on your art threads... my signifigant other is very much a G1 fan and sometimes it can be hard to find art in that style for her... (Granted I may had been looking in the wrong places. I think this is a far better place than I've looked before. XD; )

*In the interest of full disclosure, any cards marked with an * indicate cards that came out of the pack with slight defects. This mostly entails spotty foils (foils with spots were the colour pigment didn't take, showing only the foil underneath) and roughly punched standees. These are factory defects and I had no control over it, but I understand that this may make the card a bit undesirable. PM me with any questions.

Even people on the Enterplay Facebook page from Florida are complaining about how hard it is to find the 3 packs, and the reason I have what I have is I took a gamble and ordered some off of the Wal-Mart site. And while most of the sells I have on eBay are for cards, I really don't like dealing with eBay so I'd rather try trading!  :yikes:

Jordan> It's still a pretty far way south from where St Louis is on the river to MS! I'm probably closer to it now. (I did have a friend who lived there who was basically like "no don't go here it's terrible," but I think he had "I've lived here all my life so therefore it stinks" syndrome.)

Jordan> I'm pretty rough on the areas down here myself, I spent most of my life west of the Mississippi river so it's a little weird for me to be so far east! I wish we got the thrift store Savers down here... I've follow a YouTube toy collector who has made amazing finds there. Like sometimes some G1s pop up and her last video she found some G2s... oi.

Diamond> Yee, thanks, I did draw it myself! Dusky Skies is my batty pony bab, and Muninn the raven is her buddy. (He's big because, well, ravens are huge! I'm a huge bird nerd so it can drive me nuts when people assume ravens and crows are almost the same bird. But again, that's just me being a nerd.)

Hey there, I'm Julian, I'm a ponyfan whose lived in all sorts of places (California, Missouri, now Florida! You'd think central Florida would be great for toys, but I'm really finding it's not...) I'm a student, artist, and all around toy fan. I'm mostly here to trade, talk toys, and maybe get some restoration tips so don't be afraid to say hi!
