I will take items as they come. but for this random extra can i say nothing rude odds are that either my friend or some family member will be around when i open the box and I don't know what they will do if I pull out a none pickle pickle shaped item.

They were just making a simple request for people to keep their extra within some safe boundaries.

I think it's pretty much implied that no one will send anyone a random item that they can't show off in their brag post. It's not as much fun if the rest of us can't see what crazy thing your partner sent you!

I have something in mind for my random item. It is not alive, it is not something anyone would be afraid of (unless they have some rare phobias), and it is not rude.

I'm thinking of engraving/writing "Random Swap 2013" on it.

No problem. That was the second comment along those lines, so I just wanted to note that I wasn't trying to offend anyone. Personally, if I received a plastic pickle as a random extra, I would laugh & not think anything unsafe about it.

If other people see the words "plastic pickle" and their mind heads straight for the gutter I think it says more about what they're thinking than what you're thinking.

I don't think anyone assumed you were trying to offend, I just think your example is easily twisted and so they used that to point out that a random extra should stay within a PG range of amusement.

I wonder if someone is going to end up with a plastic pickle now.
