Fixing Lame (the shiny fabric, not an injury lol)

(1/1)

Cin77:
Hi guys. I'm looking for advice, is there any way to make shiny dolls clothes from the 80s that have worn dull shiny again? I have an original Jem outfit that has worn down to plain cotton that will be showing up soon and I would love to fix it up but I don't think I could sew really tiny doll clothes stitches with out going cross eyed haha

So I was hoping I could maybe resurface the metallic blue somehow? I tried googling but got no success, or should I say too much success >.< lots of advice for sore animals and how cool the lame material is but nothing about how to fix the fabric.  I have no idea how to do the little squidgy thing over the e when I'm using a keyboard so I cant even really spell it properly to search it properly.

So, any advice would be greatly appreciated :) and thank you in advance

You mentioned blue - are they perhaps Kimber's trousers? Those, and Roxy's, are a bit notorious for wear and tear. I actually don't know how to restore them. I put the bulk of my Jem dolls away last summer, for their own good as much as anything else, and I noticed that the lamé had deteriorated on a few of them even though they have only been displayed. THe problem is that it can get sticky or it flakes off.

So hopefully someone else has a better idea, but that said, if it is Kimber's trousers, they're not the rarest to replace. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. I'm sure you've done this already, but it may be worth trying to find a Jem group of some kind online and seeing what they suggest. (I haven't been in the Jem community since the mailing list died, but I'm sure there are groups out there).

With the accent on the e, there is some keyboard code or insert character function that will do this on UK and US computers but I just googled and copy pasted from wiki because it was quicker xD. Here's the word with accents with both capital and small case letters in case it helps your hunting.

Lamé lamé

Thanks for the reply. Yep Kimbers pants.  Trouble is down here in NZ its getting really hard to find Jem stuff and postage to Kiwiland is phenomenal so replacing them is more or less out of the question at the moment.  I might just see if I can sew some new ones :/ I did get an epic re-pro Synergy outfit a year or so ago I might need to see if I can find the sellers email; her work is phenomenal.

I didn't think it would be possible but I figured if any one knew I would find them here :) Thanks for the lamé lol I'll add it to the search terms and if I do find anything I'll come back here an post, it might help someone in hte future

Good luck, I hope you find a solution. Honestly, it might be better to just stitch her new ones, or commission someone to do it (or, what I would do, would be to go for an outfit she wore in the show that they didn't make, LOL...I used to make or commission those outfits for my dolls because there weren't enough Misfit fashions.)

Jem stuff isn't that common in the UK now either, though I did see a few dolls at the toy fair a week or two back. I guess the show will always be more popular...

I have a cool Synergy repro outfit as well (one that looks like the show, rather than the weird doll leotard release) and I painted up a doll to go with it. I have a feeling that might've been Barb's fashions or something like that but she was in the US...not sure about in NZ but Etsy might be a place to check out? I know there are Etsy sellers who make repro Jem clothing for the IT dolls as I bought a Roxy doll with a replica of one of the outfits, but I don't know about the original sizings.
