can murky green basic fun scented moonstone be sunfaded
« on: September 01, 2024, 08:01:19 PM »
so I finally caved in and bought her of ebay and I knew they weren't the same blue as the original and always looked faded online but now up close its more then just that, she's almost green
my question is, are they all like that or all different from different batches or is it just the scented ones.
I decided to unbox her and sit her in the sun but notice in her neck line is the same colour so maybe she was made in the murky colour.

what are other pony peeps like? the same? different? can she lighten up

It's not advisable to sunfade scented ponies because they can get "sunburn" and turn brown.

The Scented version specifically has a problem with yellowing. I purchased a scented Moonstone from the store when she first came out. She looked good in the box, but when I unboxed her she had a big green stain on the side that wasn’t visible! Basic fun did re-release an unscented version of the set. I haven’t heard of anyone being able to reverse the staining on basic fun scented ponies!

I’ve heard people complain about staining issues with other basic fun ponies too. Over time some ponies have developed head body mismatches. Suprise can be stained from her hair, often her leg will be stained where it’s wrapped around her in the box!

I don’t know if the unscented versions were released where you live, but if possible look for a cheap loose Moonstone so you can ask the seller about any stains or flaws before purchasing! Honestly the basic fun ponies don’t seem to be as good quality as original g1 so who knows how well they will hold up over time.

The plastic vinyl on some of my Basic Fun ponies is already hard as a rock! And they've been in storage out of the sunlight too :( The only one that has maintained its scent is Starshine, and yes there is some yellowing on her but I don't notice it too much/I am not that picky of a collector with flaws in my ponies. I think that once a pony has turned another color, the only way to get that color back is repainting/customizing, unfortunately. The plasticizer/material they use in past and present G1 ponies will change with age. I'm sorry. :(

the components in G1 materials that made them last as long as they have are actually the more toxic ones.

BF couldn't use the same formula for the plastics, it would not have passed today's safety standards.
and so... I have seen a LOT of BF ponies in poor condition NRFB, on the store shelves, with discoloration, spots, etc.

oh wow interesting.  and also sad the BF ones aren't lasting
I wonder if that why we are highly addicted to G1's    :lookround:

true, some can, I sunfaded scented starshine many years ago accidentally, when I unboxed her I was so upset she had blotchy browny yellow marks over her I left her out in a sunny area over summer not wanting to look at it and she had turned pure white    though I'm not sure what she would be like now as I sold her shortly after  :lookround:

I successfully sun faded scented starshine (as I mentioned in a reply above), but moonstone seems to be a flat out murky green, might be risky if she gets greener.
unfortunately with basic fun ponies we only ever got 4 (parasol, starshine, sunlight and windy) of the scented rainbow ponies sold through Cotton On in New Zealand and just the Posie wave of 4 sold in stores (and still after 2 years ) so its cost me an arm and a leg getting all the others shipped over here  but I will keep an eye out for a lose better version of moonstone when my wallet fills up ago

I can't remember if I bothered sunfading surprise hair stains but notice when I got confetti recently she had loads of hair stains  -_-
I'm now kind of regretting trying to catch them all since they aren't aging so well
probably not a good investment
