Pony Corral / Re: What do you go by when collecting ponies?

Nice to read everyones ponypreferences. I like your thinking shimmlight, what a positive way to think about not being able to collect all ponies too easily. I feel inspired. :)

hathorcat, wow only 3 or 4 accessories away? Let us know which ones, maybe someone here can help. :)

I think it was Up Up and Away. That was back when I still thought I was going to rebuild my childhood collection and that's it!  So naive...

Anyway, Up Up and Away was one of the ponies I missed the most. Then I saw her for sale alongside Dancing Butterflies.

Wow, you must have had a big or rare collection back then. Yeah I agree Dancing Butterflies would be nice to have.

Surprise and baby Surprise. They were first MLP I bought for DD last December and they started her collection (and mine obsession).

Love that neon yellow hair. Mine has quite overcombed hair though. And infact I sometimes get the feeling that certain G1 ponies has more of a tendancy of bad hair than others, like Lickety Split for example.

Pony Corral / What do you go by when collecting ponies?

My Little Pony is such a gigantic franchise to collect. I know I'll never have all ponies that were released, and that kinda makes me give up and concentrate on only a few certain sets of ponies.

How do you "big time collectors" think...
Do you have goal in the back of your mind to have them all? Or what are your preferences? All G1 ponies? All Euro ponies? All orange ponies? All unicorns? One from each set? Just a few here and there that you like? The ones you find at fleamarkets?

Yeah I guess Hasbro thought it was a good idea to release some ponies in the US and some different ones in Europe. But even the ones that weren't released here in Europe, were still advertised in the little catalogs that came along with the ponies, and they appeared in the cartoons. Would be nice to see what twinkle-eyed ponies' eyes are actually made of.

I see you have quite a few ponies on your sales list, now I know where to check once I'm ready to make some pony purchases. :)

This sounds like a good idea. The cartoon series is atleast as good as the ponies themselves. Good job on the logo! :)

Good job people! Myself I prefer to keep their original styles, plus I'd be hopeless trying to style hair.

This would be a great idea if no one did a guide like that already. I know one item I can add to the list, an orange boom box that came with the Danse doll in the Jem line, and also appeared in the same shape with the pony fashion "Get Into The Groove" but green.

I sell any doubles. I prefer the ones from the first few G1 years. I'm not that attached to the later sets and I've sold most of those even if I only have one of them.

Any ponies you always wished for and never got or found in stores, but then when you grew up you finally bought them on ebay?

I always wanted Flutter ponies, but not a single one was ever available anywhere near my town or anywhere else I went. I did get several summer wing ponies though. Even today I'd love to have just one Flutter pony. But I can't afford it at the moment.

Other ponies that are still on my want list is a so-soft pony, which also was never available in my area, nor anywhere in my country I believe. And oh the twinkle-eyed ponies, I'd love to see one up close. And those Bushwoolies would have been alot more fun than the differently colored dragons that never appear in the cartoon.

brittney_rochelle, I don't remember seeing anything like that for those other lines you mentioned, I must update myself on that. I've liked anime since the 80's, but I don't see why MLP has to turn anime. I guess it could be done successfully though.

My family went to Germany for vacation in the early 90's. And I had saved up to buy lots of ponies. Which was what I collected most of all at the time. But... ponies, and toys in general, are really expensive and I counted on buying as many as possible.

I guess my dad realized I wasn't going to be able to buy alot of ponies for my money, and he knew how much I had looked forward to this trip, because Toys 'R Us wasn't available in Sweden at the time. (By the way, I called it Toys Rose, or Toys & Roses back then. I couldn't figure the name out.)

...So he exchanged my money for me and although the Deutsche Mark was worth alot more than the Swedish Crown, he let me have just as much in Deutsche Mark (which became several times more money for me). And I was able to buy pretty much one of each pony there was. It was incredible! :)

I also remember this one lady, another customer, who approached me in the German Toys 'R US. She came at me speaking German and started taking up ponies from my shopping cart. I guess she thought I wouldn't be able to buy them all.

I can't say it would bother me if Hasbro ditched the G4 line and maybe went back to a pony model that actually looks like a pony. (hint, hint, bring back G1/G3)

I agree. I hope the G4 ends very soon, it looks... not so good. And Equestria Girls, noooo!!! It's obvious they want to make a new Jem line, but are disguising it as a pony line. And bring back the G1 shapes, or G3 with alot more pegasuses and unicorns and why not flutter ponies and sea ponies?

I especially would like to see Hasbro create some characters and stick to them, and keep releasing them in different poses. Like they've done with Applejack. Most other toylines have recognizable characters, MLP needs more of that too!

I don't collect MLP as much as I used to. But I love finding variations of my favorite toys, it's so much fun and mysterious to figure them out.

The first thing that comes to mind is whether someone used a pen to fill in the blue color. I did that to some of my old ponies. But although I kept within the eye area, they looked alot more obvious than this. But I'm sure you already tried washing it off. And exposure to sunlight would rather seem to make it more lavender if anything, rather than the other way around.

Unless someone here happens to recognize this as a common variation, I'd say it's a great find!

What do the hoofs says?

Pony Corral / Re: Weirdest pony names
« on: June 12, 2014, 02:21:17 AM »
Yeah in the 80's we just accepted their names, and didn't think twice about it. But for myself I would only remember names like Applejack, Firefly, Surprise, Shady, Lickety Split, Gusty, North Star and Wind Whistler. Much thanks to the cartoon I guess.

Found some funny G2 names: Basket Surprise, Hip Holly, Satin Slipper, Dizzy Lizzy, and Trixiebelle.

And G3: Razzaroo, Tea Leaf, Goody Gumdrop, Aloha Pearl, Blossomforth, Sew-and So, Serendipity, Toola Roola, Toodleloo, Keen Bean, and Pepperberry.

It seems Hasbro re-used some names for later lines, for ponies that didn't even resemble them. Maybe because they had trademarked those names. I wonder what they pay the person who comes up with these new names. ;)

Good ones everyone! ...I mean weird ones! ;D

Especially "Tink-a-tinka-too"! Are some of those G2 or G3 ponies? Because I haven't even looked into those yet. I bet there are some more funny ones.

But then again pretty much all MLP names sound funny to me since I'm not american. I tried looking some of them up what they meant and then some made more sense.

MJNSEIFER, "Tux n Tails"  and "Satin n Lace", those sound almost more like doll names rather than pony names. Like Jem dolls "Flash 'n Sizzle", "Rock 'n Curl", "Glitter 'n Gold". Also made by Hasbro.

The worst line of toys according to names though, must be Mattel's She-ra (Princess of Power), with names like Double Trouble, Entrapta, Peekablue, Perfuma, Spinnerella, Buttina. I just can't stand any of those names. Maybe it's just me. Or what about He-man, Spikor, Stinkor, Scare Glow, Tung Lashor, Webstor. Now I feel I'm going off topic here... ;)
