We have a duck in our bush!

Yesterday we discovered a duck had built a nest and laid eggs in one of our bushes! We're just going to leave her alone and let nature take its course. She's in a safe spot, and we don;t have any predators in our area and we're right by the canal. Last night my mom put some salmon in a little ziplock bowl. She ate the salmon then picked up the bowl and ran off with it! Too cute. We have seen a lot of ducks in our yard before, but never a nest in our bush!
And then we also have a robin building  a nest above our door. At first we kept taking the nest down, but she is stubborn as heck and keeps coming back. We're a little worried she might attack when she has babies, but my mom is just all "Oh, we'll just go out through the garage".
Luckily, my sister spent 12 years working in a bird sanctuary and has knowledge about how all this works, so if any problems arise she'll be able to help deal with it.

Fun!  We have them in one of the courtyards at work.  Every spring we have a "duck walk" to lead them and mama through part of the building and over to the lake.

We had a duck build a nest on one of the islands in our parking lot and she would want me to escort her to the pond now and then. She would let you know by running up to me and quacking loudly, if you ignored her she would keep pestering you till you did. At one point her eggs hatched and she brought over her kids to me. I remember there were six of them and they all sat around my feet. Then i had to escort everyone to the pond.

She has been hiding from us, so I don't want to disturb her right now, but when I can I'll try and snap a few. She is a very beautiful duck!

And yeah, I know how birds are with persistance.  Theres a dove pair that try to make a nest int he corner of the hanging in the backyard every year.  What they dont realize is that its on a narrow ledge that the wind can just pick up.

maybe, as sad as it is, they should just learn from experience? leave them to nest there.
