What should I do?
« on: April 15, 2012, 09:26:54 AM »
In my country is no longer possible to buy  g3 pony    Here, all people have the habit to throw out or give away old junk. The day before yesterday at the auction, I found lot of toy ponies. There were all kinds of ugly fakies and 2 Bright Brightly unicorns ! I begged the seller not to sell them anyone and arranged a meeting today. But today she said she had sold them already. I called the person who bought them to ask for one of the Bright Brightly.Of course, she said that children would cry if they take away a toy. She said she thinks... I was really ashamed! I do not know that I was more annoying, naughty  greedy children, or  myself.
You would be able to once again bother the woman? Or it is not decent ???

I say you talk to the seller again. You did tell her not to sell them, and she didn't listen, also, there were 2 of them anyway, I don't see why the buyer got two of the same pony in the first place.

It was a little impolite of the seller to sell the ponies after they were promised to you but it was also a little unusual that they would give you the details of the buyer.

Personally I think you have made the call and asked the buyer if they would consider selling to you - the fact that they said no would, for me, be enough - I dont think there is any need to pester them for some toys. However, you could simply ask them to contact you if they ever decide to get rid of them, sell them or if the children become tired of them...just leave them a number or email they can reach you on.

I agree that the seller should have sold them to you if that was the arrangement (although maybe they didn't think you would come through and someone else with cash in hand seemed like a more sure bet), but that isn't the buyers fault.  To call their children "annoying, naughty and greedy" because they might be upset if a toy they were just given was taken away for no good reason is pretty harsh.  I mean look how upset you are about not getting the "toys" and you are an adult.  I would not even have contacted the buyer, but since you have already done that and they have said no, I would leave it at that.

Maybe next time, you could make sure to have money with you if you are going to an auction, so that you can just purchase the item right then.  You could also always buy G3s here or on ebay as well.  Good luck!

Yes, now I completely agrees with each of you. I wrote this rough text because of emotions.  :lookround: Now I think, it simply silly to disturb new owners. Thank you

I can see why you were annoyed that the seller sold the ponies to someone else. That would have annoyed me too.

However, I don't agree with contacting the person that just bought them. The seller should have not given out the number of the person that bought the ponies. And yeah... I've had ponies that were bought for me as a child taken away not long after I got them and I was extremely upset. So I can see where the mother was coming from. ;)

heh, had the same situation as you a few weeks ago. I got majorly upset at the seller but personally, I wouldn't dream of contacting the new buyer - after all, it wasn't their fault ^^

but i definitely feel for you.

However, keep in mind that G3s are not really available anywhere any more (in stores) but there are a lot of people online that are looking to sell their G3s cheaply. If I didn't live in a country where customs officers are the stuff of nightmares, i´d be ordering them all the time :P

G3's are very inexpensive to acquire on the second hand market, there's like... a bajillion of them up for offer right now, most in the 3$ and under price range.  While it's disappointing to lose out on a purchase, it comes with the territory when collecting.  Just find another seller, there are lots of nice people on the Arena who have extra G3's to sell. =3
G1 Wishlist  It's the final countdown! Looking to purchase the last few G1's for my collection - Watercolor Baby Sea Ponies Foamy, Misty & Surfy - Red Roses - SHS Sweet Sundrop - Springy - Teeny Tiny Snookums (#2)

I can't decide which shocks me more, the fact that the seller gave you another buyer's contact information (which you should report to the auction house for being so unprofessional, what if you were going to do something worse than just call them about ponies?!) or the fact that you would ask them for the ponies and then call the children naughty and greedy when the mother said no. Kids are kids, and taking away toys they've been given is just mean. It's good to have zeal when looking for ponies you want, but there is a line and I think you went way over it.

I'm really confused. Neither I nor the buyer does not think it is wrong to communicate with the buyer. All fellow collectors say that it`s okay ... Even the owner would sell me one of the same unicorns, if she had one child.

Look, I'm not trying to be mean or start a fight or anything, but sellers are supposed to keep a buyer's personal information privet. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's at least borderline, if not completely, illegal to give away a costumer's personal information to random third parties without specific consent. Maybe this buyer didn't mind, but a lot of people, including myself, would find this a major invasion of privacy. Of course, if you contacted this person through the seller, and they agreed to it before their information was given to you, I fully rescind all of my previous and later comments on the matter and apologize for going in depth about a topic that does not apply. But from the way you wrote it, it seems like the seller just handed out information, which is wrong on many levels.

A buyer generally expects a seller to use their personal information to complete the transaction, and then dispose of it, not hand it out. Yes, you didn't mean any harm, but what if you weren't just looking to buy ponies? What if you were a scam artist or some crazy person with a grudge? What if you used that information to sign them up on a million telemarketing lists or tracked down their physical address and vandalized their home? What if they gave out enough information that you could have committed fraud in their name? Of course you, and most people, would never do that sort of thing, but most sellers do not know their clients well enough to make that kind of decision about their character, and the buyer who gave their information to the seller certainly doesn't know a random inquirer well enough to know if they want that person to have their information. There are many reasons both moral and practical for why it is not ok to give out a person's information.

I suppose this next part is a personal opinion, but most people I know share it with me, so I'll post it. If a person buys an item, regardless of whether or not the seller is being fair about it, they bought it. Another person should respect that. Yes, it's not cool that the seller lied and you missed out, but that's life. Finding out someone bought something you want, then tracking them down to see if they'll sell it to you, is tacky. I could maybe see someone going to such lengths for, I dunno, a Stradivarius or something, but for plastic ponies? Calling up a stranger and asking them to resell something they bought is unprofessional. Collectors are supposed to enjoy the hunt, but surrender when they're beat (fairly or otherwise). You only contacted the person who bought these ponies once, but even so it could be viewed by some as a mild form of harassment. Once I pay for an item and receive it, I consider the transaction closed. I would not want third parties suddenly questioning the transaction or me. I think it's a fair assumption that when someone buys something, they want it for whatever reason, and second guessing them is rude and invasive.

I am aware that some people don't mind being contacted, and are very nice about situations like this, especially in this community, but even so bothering other people is not a good habit to get in to. You never know when you're going to step on someone's toes and get yourself into trouble.

I would not contact the buyer again, they already said no. and as for the seller , it was wrong of them to sell them out from under you but it happens.
