Title: Is that a prototype Lickety Split in the toy commericals?
Post by: Ponyfan on August 14, 2018, 07:30:37 AM
Hi,

It looks like there's a prototype Lickety Split in both the Baby Buggy and Lullaybe Nursery commercial

Baby Buggy

Lullabye Nursery

Also interesting to note is on the backcard art Lickety Split is purple with red (might be dark pink hair)

It looks like she's already got faded hair in the commercial, lol. The backcard art is so dark compared to what she actually looks like.

Good eye!  I think you're right, I think she is a prototype.

I think Cuddles and Tiddly-Winks are prototypes too, they're really glossy compared to the mass-produced versions.  I think they've been painted up.

Also Tiddly-Winks looks more lavender than her actual color, which is more of a medium pink.

I think you’re right LadyMoondancer Baby Cuddles and Baby Tiddley Winks are prototypes too. :) I’d love to know how the prototypes changed in to the final production ponies.

They all look like prototypes to me - maybe proto Lickety-Split had white hair to begin with and they changed to light pink for production?  Somewhat ironic since many of them are now white anyways. XD

It probably is Lickety. Her symbols remind me of Posey's for a few seconds of the commercial, but they are black (I think?) There are so many prototypes in the commercials from the Cotton Candy symboled collectors ponies to the alt. pose DnP and all those shiny hand-painted prototypes. I wish we had them all!

They look much glossier than released ponies so they probably are, Lickety Splits hair looks white so they mightve changed it for store releases?

Well, the stuff I'm finding isn't very good quality so you are probably right!

Y'know, Lickety did always look lavender to me in those commercials. Hm.

It looks like they are handpainted and not colored plastic to me.
Seems like they are all prototype then

Yeah, the shine is due to the paint I believe. For other commercials you can tell they have prototypes because the ponies are shiny, even if they look like the normal versions.

I see ice cream cones too. I took a screenshot where you can sort of see the ice cream cones. They look like the cones are black and the ice cream scoops are white

I'm guessing they were magenta or dark pink.  The contrast and video quality makes it very hard to tell.

I agree. They look dark pink or magenta to me too, not dark enough for black.

That's a great still though, Ponyfan, shows it very clearly :)

I’m glad my picture helped. :) I think most of the ponies we see in the commercials are prototypes like blue Sprinkles and the painted symbol babies. I think there’s even a prototype Brush and Grow princess in their commercial also

Definitely - commercials need to be made well in advance of the general release, so they used what they had on hand, rather than the production models for most ponies.

Am I the only one who cringes when I see the little actors comb their ponies manes or tails in reverse?  No, bad child!  That's how you get frizz!   :throw:

Haha, same here! Same goes for seeing seapony commercials where they do show them being used as bath toys. Yeah that is the way they were intended to be played with.... but the rust....

I just watched another version of the Lullaybe Nursery and Baby Buggy ads and there's a few clear shots of prototype Lickety Split where her mane appears very pale pink.
