I was just wondering if there has ever been a big 'Other' type swap. I know we do Ponies, LPS, Dolls, Doll clothing, etc.. but what about all our other collections? I know I'm not the only one who has a zillion different collections lol.
Do you think something like that could work out in the future? It just sounds like a lot of fun to try building a collection that isn't ponies. :)
Would love to know if there's been this before and to see links to it. I myself am incapable of even dreaming of hosting a swap lol. But.. if enough interest builds, who knows, maybe someone will come along!

I wouldn't mind at all if it had a high spending limit than say 25-35 dollars. I just think it would be so neat. I know I'd totally want my Harry Potter collection to probably be my thing lol.
Then again.. I do collect LPS, Barbie, Disney Princess, Ponies, Monster High, Dolls, WWE Action Figures, Owls, Tigers, Pokemon, Unicorns and a zillion other things too. :P But I'm really favoring my HP stuff lol.

This sounds really awesome. Besides ponies I collect Monster High dolls, Mattel Little Pretty kitties and puppies (would LOVE to expand this collection), and Lady Lovely Locks.

I would possibly participate, especially if it was a long enough wishlist that it was possible to shop locally for the items (having at least 5 "fandoms"/collections)! :D I think it would be fun to share interests beyond ponies. Maybe make the ponies a mandatory extra! :-p

This sounds fun! I collect Monster High, Novi Stars, comics, Batman and Batgirl, Sailor Moon, and I'm sure there are others :) I can't host, but I'd totally love to do this and see all the brags from it!!

I've been thining a book swap would be fun for a while too! I do tend to collect books, but other then that just a "I read this, loved it and am sending it on in a swap" type of thing.

I collect all things zebra. I really like figurines and art, but I also have bookmarks, coffee cups, stamps, pillows, stuffed animals, and basically anything zebra print or with a zebra on it.
I also have quite a few little trinket boxes. For some reason cute little boxes appeal to me lol

The books could be added possibly to the "other" swap. I know I have several books that are duplicates that I'd love to give a home to. *eye balls the massive collection of books that are taking over the room*

There was a book swap last year. I think it was in the spring or summer. It looked like those who participated enjoyed it.

I had just joined the arena when they did the book swap and so didn't get to participate but i wanted to SOOOOOO bad. I don't really actively collect anything but ponies but I could list some general interests. I like to hoard pretty yarns I could possible use for crochet projects, so I guess that is a collection too.

Sally Sue loves Stephan King Books, Collects anything Dragons, TY Beanie Babies, Disney Collectable Pins, and loves Fairies.
And then the person who got Sally would use the X amount spending limit to buy them goodies for the swap. Say it was a 45 dollar swap they could get her a book she might need, a couple beanie babies, a pin or two or a fairy or dragon collectable.
See what I mean? :)

i'm not up for hosting another one so soon (just got done with LPS swap) but i'd LOVE to join if this gets goin. My angry birds army loves to be fed. (my current collection i'm working on)
oh goodness do i have a lot though.
nutcrackers, monster high, LPS, ponies, angry birds, AHHH. i refuse to let myself have any more hobbies than those.

i think it'd be tons of fun to shop for someone with a different hobby than me so i don't have to throw 2 of everything in the cart hahaha!! i did that with the littlest pet shop swap. saw so many cute things and had to buy more.

I've never hosted a swap. I'm pretty intimidated to shoulder that responsibility. Hopefully someone here will do it.

Hosts for any Arena-based hosts must meet these requirements and responsibilities:
Note: these rules apply to both hosts and co-hosts equally.
1. The host must be an active Arena member for at least 1 year, with no less than 500 posts.
2. The host must have a total positive feedback score of at least 10, with at least 5 of those feedbacks being for trades/swaps. At least 1 feedback must be from participation in an organized swap here on the Arena, of the same category that you are wishing to host. (IE: if you want to host a Customs swap, you must have successfully participated in a Customs swap previously.)
3. The host must have good standing within the community and present themselves as responsible. No previously suspended or banned members may be swap hosts.
4. Swap hosts must be 18 years of age or older.
5. Hosting a swap counts as 2 swaps towards a member's total swap limit of 5.
6. Swap hosts may also only host 1 swap at a time, and cannot begin another one until the previous swap is completely finished.
7. All swaps must be approved by a moderator or administrator before sign ups can begin. This is now mandatory in every part of the Arena, not just Customs. PM a moderator responsible for the section of the forum in which you're hosting the swap (for example - if you're hosting a Pony Corral swap, PM a Pony Corral moderator for approval.) When you PM the moderator, have your swap rules, dates, and the sign-up post already written so that you may include it in the PM. The moderator may ask you to change certain requirements or clarify language on the application. Mods and admins reserve the right to not approve a swap for any reason, whether related to the potential swap host or not. The reason for denial will be disclosed to you via PM.
8. Once you have conducted sign-ups and assigned partners, PM the same moderator who approved your swap with the list of partners. This is simply to have a back-up plan in case something happens with you and you cannot be contacted."

i think the "must have participated in a similar swap" part means, like a collection type swap. that would be like swapping ponies, or little pet shops, or something like that, right? not necessarily "off topic"
you wouldn't host a "pony corral" swap, you'd host just a "pony swap"

I'll do it if they let me. I've been a host a few times BUT my feedback isn't perfect due to international shipping issues - when I lived in Alaska. :cry: It was several years ago though

I would just hope the swap price limit isn't too high! I can't do an extremely expensive one ATM.

you can always have two categories for people to enter.
one for 25 and another for 50.
nothing i would want is too high. except maybe poochi toys. but those are usually pretty cheap.

OOOO!!! I REALLY like that idea!!!! That way everyone would be able to participate. And if it came up as an uneven number of people, I'd be happy to take on a 25 dollar person too just so everyone gets a box. :)

Hey there ladies. im experienced hosting swaps. i have been consumed in my time and efforts lately with my preggo rescue horse. but i might be able to help you guys out by hosting now that things have settled down a bit. on the kenner lps forum i introduced swaps to them and gave them a good template to use for guidelines. :) if you like i can also post that to help a newbie hoster. BUT be warned if you host a swap you must understand you are responsible if members flake out. do not let anyone get left out or end up with no swap box.
Here is an exact qoute from the kenner forum from a few years ago when i hosted and created the valentines day swap there. you may use it as a template if you wish :)

Ok here is the sign up thread for the Valentines day Swap (Please ONLY post if you are willing to commit to the guidelines!)

Sign up deadline: January 15th
Shipping Deadline: February 1st
Minimum $ spent: $15.00

Maximum $ spent: $30.00
Theme: Valentines day
Color scheme: red, white and pink
Packages must be sent in a BOX (No bubble mailers!) and please make sure to save your shipping receipt for proof of shipping.

Kiwi pmed me and said that she did get my PM, and is busy at the moment with a family function of some sort. She will let me know as soon as she can :biggrin:
I set it up for 2 limits - one $25 and one $40 with a shipping date near the end of march..It's pretty similar to what Babylickidysplit posted. I've hosted swaps a few times in the past but nothing since 2007.
We shall have to wait for Kiwi's decision...

Just as a plug my sister Wingsinmoonlight specializes in selling 80s toys and she has quite a lot in her back stock so if anyone needs help tracking things down she or I might be able to help out.:)
Plus she'll be at the fair so depending on when this happens she could do some pick up orders.
