What are the rarest ponies ?

I have been wondering about this for a while 
What are the rarest ponies?

I would say the rarest ponies of all are Columbians and South African ponies....

US releases I would say, Rapunzel and Sweet Scoops ( both mail orders)

- Nirvanas
- Movie!Fire Fly
- Majority of the mail-order ponies
- Mimic (though many people find that to be debatable - see Mimic thread)
- My Pretty Pony (in mint condition and with all of it's accessories)
- Majority of the exclusives


And that's really all I can think of.

Are you referring to ponies on a whole? As in all generations...? Well I'm guessing the earlier ponies (pre-1990) anyways, but I would also add the Alternate Birthflower ponies to the list already put forth aaand I've got a feeling some G2 sparkly ponies are pretty rare too, but I'm no expert at all on G2's 

But honestly, as an individual collector that 'rare' pony could easily be a set completer or if you're a picky collector (such as moi!) the rarest pony is the one that you. just. can't. seem. to. find. in. mint. nic... no matter how long you've been searching! 

For me, at the moment, my rare [currently unobtainable] pony would be Sweet Pop - coating still on eyes, nice smooth hair, clean crisp markings, unspoiled body and gleaming pink streak... she is my rarest of rare ..

Soooo, does personal yearning for a pony count as 'rare'?

Going to completely depend if you mean just the mainstream US/Euro lines or are including Nirvanas...as if you are in including the latter the top 100 plus would probably all be Nirvanas from the South Africans through to the multitude of OOAK ponies we have seen!

If its just mainstream then the focus will be mail orders - Punzie, Sweet Scoops, Mommy & Baby Pony.

Well, I don't think I'd consider Mimic rare (she seems to always be on ebay!) She's just very popular and expensive and is my TE set completer! Ahhhhhh! Want Mimic so bad!! Cannot afford

My rare desires would have to be the TAF babies, yes you can find them on ebay every now and then but man they go for a pretty penny. I could be wrong but I think mimic falls under the.. really sought after because they didn't make that many of her.. If I am wrong someone please correct me.

What about giant G3 Minty?

I'm not sure how rare some G3 items are since they are just last generation...
though as a child I never saw any G3 giant Minty's out, so they must not be to common.

Just out of curiosity, what are you basing this on? I've never heard her being referred to as rare, and I seem to see her about from time to time.

I could be wrong but I think mimic falls under the.. really sought after because they didn't make that many of her.. If I am wrong someone please correct me. 

I don't see why they would have made any less of Mimic than any other pony in that set? It's just that she has a very striking color combo and appeals to the mainstream. That makes her sought after after, but she's not rare, by any means. There's 4 of her on eBay as we speak, and how many Rapunzel or Tink-a-too II? zero.

If we are talking official G4 ponies, there are definitely some rare variants.


For brushables, the rarest variant we have physical proof and official images of is prototype Cupcake/Sugarcup. Only one has surfaced of her looking like her promotional photos
