Off Topic / Healthy Pony June - August
« on: May 28, 2018, 07:04:16 AM »
So Crowning_Glory13 suggested I'd take over Healthy Pony for a new round. Since the last round really motivated me I'll give it a go.

The rules are simple.

1. Set up a goal.
2. We go for three months, June through August.
3. Everyone reaching their goal gets a prize. The prize won't be expensive, just a little something.

My goal is setting up a Etsy store with at least three items for sale. I'll work towards that goal every day for a minimum of 10 minutes a day.

Pony Corral / When will your collection be complete? Will it ever?
« on: April 07, 2018, 08:30:51 AM »
Do you think one day you'll have all the pony related things you want and will consider your collection complete? What does your complete collection look like?

For me it's about having every playset, accessory and pony which looks unique. I don't care about having a playset with a box with greek text on if the playset doesn't differ from the regular version. Neither do I care about no country, Italian or other variants of a pony if that variant doesn't look different than the regular one.

With that goal my collection will never be complete seeing there are so many rare and expensive variants of ponies. The more realistic goal is to own one of every regular pony, mail order pony and pony exclusive to a specific country, all accessories plus all the playsets complete with boxes. Even that might be unrealistic so my first goal is to just own every regular pony and every playset complete with boxes. G1 only that is. Thank god, that narrows it down at least a bit.

Pony Corral / Off with her head?
« on: April 06, 2018, 09:37:57 AM »
If a pony doesn't show any sign of rust, mold and similar, do you still take it apart to wash the inside? Since the heads are glued on, I feel like taking the head off is a bit like ruining it since it will be less in original condition than before.

What's the opinion on this in the pony community? If I sell a pony which head was taken off and the glue had to be cut open with a knife, can I still call that pony mint condition if it otherwise is in mint condition? I don't plan on selling any of my ponies but I don't want to make them worth less either if I one day decide to do so.

Also, when washing a pony without taking it apart, is there a big risk of water getting trapped inside? I try to be careful when I wash mine but some water always tends to end up at the tail hole anyway and I always worry that some has got inside.

In the early 90s I had a couple of plastic cats (or were they dogs?) resembling the Little Pretty animals.

They looked like cats or dogs and had long brushable hair. The hair fell down on both sides of the body. The fur style looked kinda like that of a long haired Shih Tzu or Yorkshire Terrier. I had two big ones and two babies. At least one of them was pink. One might have been purple, or yellow? All were in a standing position, the big ones with heads facing left I think.

I've often wondered what brand they were. They always reminded me of My Little Ponies because of the similar colour theme and brushable hair. Maybe a Little Pretty knock-off? I think they looked much better than Little Pretty though, with the fur being over the body as opposed to just on the head and tail.

Anyone knows anything about these toys?

Pony Corral / Ponies smells like chemicals and mold
« on: March 07, 2018, 01:23:29 PM »
I recently bought a lot of ponies of which many turned out to have a weird smell. Some smells like mold and some have a more chemical smell mixed with the mold. I really can't place the chemical smell but it smells almost sweet. Do mold at some point start to smell chemical and sweet? Are these ponies one step further down the road of decomposing than the ones which just smells like mold or is this smell something else entirely? Maybe a reaction in the plastic?

Most importantly, how do I fix this? And can my other ponies be infected by this if they come in contact with these funky smelling ones? Are they a hazard to my health?

Many questions here but I've just never come across anything like this so I'm a bit perplexed as to what to do. I searched the forum and read something about baking soda and washing to remove mildew smell but I don't even know if mold alone is the problem here.

MLP Nirvana / Price check German and Mexican Swirly Whirly

I was wondering how much German Swirly Whirly and the two Mexican Swirly Whirly variants generally cost?

Wanted! / Show stable blanket, comb and brush
« on: March 02, 2018, 11:39:16 AM »
I'm looking for the show stable pink blanket for the bed, the purple comb and the yellow heart shaped brush.

The show stable is part of my childhood collection but some things has gone missing or broken so I'm looking to replace those things. :)

Pony Brag Arena / Restoring My Little Ponies
« on: February 26, 2018, 08:25:05 AM »
I'm restoring my MLP collection at the moment. At one time they looked decent but now they're dirty and messy after being packed away for a decade. I've also got some new additions which needs fixing up. I thought I'd share some of my makeovers here.

I started with two sundae best ponies. They were in decent shape before so I didn't get any before photos. They were just a bit dirty and the hair needed some styling.

Spoiler
This is my curling technique. Plastic straws and butterfly clips.

My boyfriend said "poor pony" when he saw the hairdo but I think she looks great.

Fairy (also known as Yes) is the dish detergent I have at home and I was thinking about cleaning my ponies with it. I couldn't find any info here or elsewhere about whether it's gentle enough though. MLP preservation project says Dawn dish detergent is the best but I've never heard of it and I'm pretty sure it's not even sold here. What damage could be done to the pony if I used the wrong kind of dish detergent? Anyone have any experience of cleaning ponies with Fairy/Yes?

Off Topic / Posting photos in forum
« on: February 22, 2018, 02:06:11 AM »
I was going to post a thread with a photo of some pony wear I need help identifying but then realised I needed a place to upload it first. What service do you guys use for sharing photos on forums?

I've recently taken up my MLP collecting again after a long pause and now I'm going to put my collection on display. The last time my collection was on display it was stored on open wall shelves in my old apartment for a few years time. Over that time my poor ponies became dusty, even though I cleaned my apartment regularly. I didn't clean the ponies though, they just stood there untouched. Unpacking them now I found them all to be dirty because of old dust and my show stable is rather yellowed due to sun exposure.

As I'm putting my old collection plus a lot of new items on display I was wondering, what's the ultimate way of storing a MLP collection? Ponies, playsets, accessories. I have three display cabinets to put most of the stuff in but some things, like the Dream Castle, will not fit. You guys who store such things in the open, don't they get dirty and how do you clean them if so?

The room I will be storing the collection in is in the basement and will not be exposed to direct sunlight, although there are small windows in another part of the room. Will things only get yellowed and bleached if exposed to direct sunlight or just for being out in the open?

I've read something about storing MLPs in a even tempered room. What does that mean?

I'm sorry if these questions have been asked before. I'm new to the forum.

Introductions / Hi there!
« on: February 21, 2018, 02:55:29 AM »
Hi!

I'm a MLP collector from Europe. English is not my first language so if you find grammatical errors in my writing you know why. :)

I had a few MLPs when I was a kid in the 80s and 90s, only seven, but I loved them and they are my favourite toys from my childhood. For me collecting is about nostalgia so I only collect G1. I chose the name Swirly Whirly because she is one of the seven ponies from my childhood collection and was always one of my favourites. That scent! Funny side note, I realised the other day that my shower gel smells exactly like Swirly Whirly!

I started collecting in high school, back in 2001 I think, and my collection of seven ponies from my childhood grew to 50. Because of lack of space after I moved into my first home of my own (tiny apartment) I put my collection on hiatus a few years later and didn't pick it up again until this year. Me and my boyfriend recently bought a house and now I have all the space I need and then some, so for the first time in over a decade my collection will be on display and have room to grow. I'm redecorating a room in the house to be my hobby room and plan to keep my collection there. I had already decided the room would be pink before I took up the collecting again and now it seems even more fitting. My pink hobby/MLP room! :D I'm a creative person so my hobby/MLP room will also be where I work on my art and other creative projects.

I'm looking forward to being part of the forum. :)
