Price Check Archives / Price Check on G1 Seaponies?
« on: August 07, 2017, 04:45:26 AM »
Hi pony friends! I've been out of the collecting loop for awhile and I was wondering if some of you wouldn't mind to help me price check some sea ponies? I'd like to trade some with a friend and I want to make sure I don't stiff her! But I'm having an awfully hard time finding any recent prices for them ^^;;

I have:
Whitecap - Excellent shape. No flaws at all. She's ivory rather than pure white, but I think they all are?
High Tide - Perfect paint, no frizz or damage, but her hair is faded and she has an orange stain on her chin (Looks like highlighter, but it's probably from being rested against  pink plastic at some point).
Backstroke and her float - Factory eye-painting is a little blurry and she has some discolouration from her neck glue but otherwise she's good. I'd also be interested to know the value of just her float? It is pretty-near mint with just one tiny scuff to the orange paint on the crest.
Pearly Surf Rider and her float - Mint asides from her faded hair. Her float has a few small scuffs.
Splasher and her float - She has no flaws, but she might be slightly yellowed? I can't quite tell.  Her float has a couple small scuffs.

Any guidance anyone could offer would be great! Thanks so much!

Oh, not a problem at all! Thank you so much for going to the trouble for me! <3 :lovey:

They're printed so well! I'm just in awe of them and totally flipping out, aha. :frolic: I'm definitely going to need to order a bunch! I gotta check my stash and see what colours will be best. I definitely need some of the beachy one, since Hula Hula was my very first pony <3 I'm going to have to see if I can buy some lanyard clips~

I'll need a moment to decide but I'll message you soon!

Pony Corral / Re: What do we call ponies in the same pose?

Conga as in a conga line...? XD. That's hilarious!

I'm not a very creative individual and would just call them like "the shy pose army" or somesuch, but I've never heard of a name for it until just now. Considering they are all made from the same mold in those cases, maybe mold twins? Mold sisters? I've honestly never thought about it before.

I'm just imagining someone lining up all their same pose ponies in a long conga line now wearing leis and stuff and it's just great, aha. Cruise ship vacation time for ponies!

Pony Corral / Re: Plush Eye Repaint

Like you say with the sharpie, I've filled some plush eyes in with black permanent marker. Not all permanent marker is a true black or will stick to plastic, though, so you need to test them on other things first (sharpies are usually actually slightly red/brown and only get redder/browner with age!). But I feel like it looks a lot more convincing than trying to brush paint on, other then in like super direct light where you can still see the difference a little.

I'm not sure if you couldn't get pale coloured permanent markers? I was content leaving the small marks in the coloured areas. You never seem to get marks as bad there because of the domed shape of the eyes.

Jisho.org is an excellent dictionary to use for Japanese to English or English to Japanese, that also gives accurate characters for the way they are written. Selecting a word also gives example phrases in Japanese characters (kanji/katakana/hiragana), romaji, and an English translation.

Honestly I'm of the opinion though that if neither you or your karate instructor are Japanese or can understand the language (and your client base presumably can't either?) then there's no need to use it like some exotic decoration just because it looks cool or something. But that's your call to make, there.

Ohhh! If anyone can get pictures of the clothes, I would just adore that. I likely won't be able to get to BaB for some time (and they'll show up here later than they do in the US).

Customs / Re: x-posted How do you attach fairy wings on dolls?
« on: January 21, 2016, 10:12:28 AM »
Oh, no, not clear rubber bands like the dolls are packaged in! Those will stretch and are not strong enough; they like to snap. Proper clear jewellery elastic is much stronger and does not stretch out as easily. It is also a little thinner, so it is slightly more discrete (not a lot though so if you don't like how it looks, it may not be a good choice).

When I make doll wings (I've only done this a few times, mind) I just put them on a harness so they can come on and off. Some clear jewellery elastic would do nicely for such a small doll as MH, I'd imagine. Really since they are so small you could even put the wings on a bobby pin you could just slide over the back of whatever they are wearing, unless the wings you decide on are quite heavy compared to the doll.

I don't collect MH, so I'm not sure how common this is, but my younger sister has a few (very conveniently left on the table next to me~) and one of those is one of those DIY ones (that come in kits in pieces and the limbs snap off?) that actually has holes in the shoulders that could be used for attaching wings (and presumably were for that purpose? As far as I know we don't have any wings for it but she's not the first owner). The doll would only be able to wear clothing with low shoulders then, though. But I can also see installing some strips of magnet into the holes to allow wings to be put on that way. I'll have to experiment with it myself if I can get some magnetic strips, I'm sure she'd love that (if I do I'll get back to you).

I don't make my own wings, I just buy winged holiday ornaments (the after-holiday clearances are the best time for this), or the decorative butterflies/dragonflies on alligator clips or bits of sticky backing that you find in the summertime. Then you just pop the wings off and attach them to an appropriate fastening. I've still seen/have had transparent fairy-like wings in this way (even as Christmas ornaments), so it's worth keeping an eye out! Also if you have a craft store that sells doll-making supplies, they may have individual sets of pre-made wings. I got a lovely pair of angel wings in that way. I'm not sure if you'd find anything small enough for the MH dolls, though (well, it depends on how big you would want the wings, too, I suppose). But they may also have tiny winged things for putting in wreaths or even scrap-booking that may be suitable for your needs.

When i see things like that i always wonder how these poor girls arrived here. Like someone said let's bury a pony in the garden , it should be fun?

Maybe they were hoping they'd get a pony tree?

That's exactly what I was thinking.  Has anyone tried it?  Think it would work?  :P

I was actually one of those kids that used to bury their ponies >////< Only when I was quite young, though. Like, less than seven. I had two and a fakie and I would spend hours just burying and un-burying them behind my house, where we have a large area of sand my parents put in so we could have a playset safely. I always made sure I dug them right back up before moving anywhere, or marked the place where I buried them with a rock, but maybe some other kid wasn't so careful and forget where they buried poor Cotton Candy?

As a side note it was hilarious when I opened the two ponies up as an adult to restore them (they survived the burying just fine!) and they were half-way filled up with sand XD. It was no wonder they were so much heavier than the rest of them. I had a nice little pile by the time I got them fully emptied.

This isn't really pony luck, but a few days ago I was going through some pony stuff that needed cleaning, and I found a Silkypup I got ages ago in a lot and just kind of set aside because she's not a pony. For some reason or another I decided to forego washing all the ponies and tidy her up instead. Poor thing was so grey, but she came out perfectly, and it made me so nostalgic for when I was a kid and I really wanted a Lady Lovely Locks doll, but was never able to find one. So I set her out nice where I could look at her and went to bed. The next day I'm at the thrift store doing my usual hunt for pony stuff, and _finally_ after goodness knows how many years now, I find a beautiful, minty Lady Lovely Locks doll. I was so excited! And now she and Silkypup have been reunited and are having a nice time on my mantelpiece, aha.

In the same trip I also got some accessories I was missing for that half of the Lullaby Nursery I mentioned before. The funny thing is Silkypup was living in that nursery half the whole time! It was just the weirdest set of coincidences XD

I'll send you a message then~ I'm afraid I'm in Canada so I don't think flat rate shipping applies.

Are you able to offer shipping estimates?
