Title: Cotton On exclusive 35th Anniversary rainbow alternative packaging for NZ & AUS
Post by: shabbychicdee on October 12, 2018, 03:06:01 AM
hi all, i couldn't find anything here nor find anything on any twit or face b as i don't do social media so i thought i would share pics here of the different boxing for anyone interested.
yay some 35th's came here, shame only 4 out of the 6 rainbow's and no beautiful box art but still better then nothing.

the whole background inside is bright pink.

so starshine smells like coconut and vanilla (surfboard wax), for the rest its weird trying to pin point the smell, we all said something different though parasol was mainly strawberry, sunlight like a sweetie, apple shampoo smell and windy a bit of both sunlight and parasol.

i wonder if any more 35th's will be exclusive somewhere.  ^.^

Nice, congrats on getting them, thanks for sharing! ^.^

I'd seen on FB to watch for these in Cotton On, I didn't realise it was the kids store and when I asked staff they looked at me like I was crazy (and sent me to Typo, another crazy dead end). I've put them on my X-Mas wishlist so we'll see if I get them, I'm not entirely sold on the retro rainbow ponies.

That box is sharp!

:( A shame it's 4/6 tho.. moonstone is my personal favorite.

I liked the packaging until I saw the words 'cutie mark'...Is that written on the other boxes? If so, why have I not noticed it??

It is a nice colour scheme though.

Also, speaking of colour, how do you guys spell that word over there? I notice the box says color but I was under the impression Australia and NZ used the u spelling? Am I wrong?

WOW, I don't know what I was expecting, but I wasn't expecting something that dramatically different!  I dig it, though--very striking!  So interesting that they used the later G1 logo.

A shame it's 4 out of 6, but that's better than 0 out of 6 I guess . . . Interesting that Sunlight got left out of the 5-pack, yet here she is.

Would you mind if I shared these pictures on Tumblr, with a link back here?

We absolutely do use the British spelling, so the box SHOULD reflect that by saying "colour".

The navy packaging provides a striking contrast to those sweet pastels.

I'm super annoyed at the incorrect use of cutie mark though.

The packaging is nice! I guess in contrast to the other packaging- more noticeable..

Is it possible they left out Moonstone because of the color changing issue?

This is interesting packaging. Feels much more modern.
:/ at the lack of the other two.

that is exactly what i was thinking, i only have the collector pony box's and they don't say that. im guessing the other rainbow and glory set don't say cutie mark.
and yes definatly 'OU" all the way this side of the world :D i can't believe i missed that when i read it late last night

i'm really missing the G1 art work on these but the plus side for me is the lack of the big 35th Anniversary spot and the messy "scented sign" that i reckon ruins the G1 feel for me.

yes that's fine hun :)
and yeah i was thinking the same about sunlight missing out on the big pack. she sure is pretty in that green, very different to my aqua coloured ones.

Thanks!

Actually the single-language English language rainbow pony boxes do have the same line about cutie marks.   In fact they have the exact same text, even down to where the line breaks are.  Which probably explains "color" instead of "colour" (because they used the text from the US box).

The bi-lingual box doesn't have the cutie mark thing, it only has the first sentence of the blurb.

I managed to order three of them online before they sold out. I'm just waiting for them to arrive.

And yesterday I went into Cotton On Kids and they didn't have any of the ponies in stock and didn't seem to know about them, but I did get a cute pony drink bottle.  ^.^

mine was online and picked up in Albany Auckland.
if your talking about Cotton On kids, they are in (or should be) in every big city like Christchurch etc..
as for every other toy shop. iv tried searching on a lot of different sites and so far no luck. just the cotton on group

The toys are exclusive to cotton on, no other store will be releasing them.
I would guess they are all sold out at this stage but I put my money in them getting more in for Christmas since they sold out in days. I checked cotton on in whangarei and there weren't any in store. I don't know anyone that has brought one from in store all where brought online

Them selling out so fast is actually a really good sign for you guys and your future market, as it proves there's a bigger demand than they anticipated.

No, we didn't get that. We have had the 6 rainbows and the 6 collector ponies in English only boxes...but not all areas seem to have had them yet. I have seen all of the loose individual ponies from each set in one or other store down here in the South East but I know that there are none up in the area where my parents live.

woow thats like $26NZD for a rainbow. gees. at least being widely spread in stores they will come up on sale and or clearance eventually.
still, i was pleasantly surprised at our $16NZD each they were considering toys are super expensive over here.

will be watching to see if they re-stock since they went so quickly. and fingers crossed for wave 3 too if they see how super populer they were between Australia and New Zealand.
a company like Cotton On won't know that there are loads of us mlp collectors out there ready to pouncing on these.
i wonder if more adults out there bought these then bought for a kids toy  :P

I bought my 4! They also have a cute shadow money box but it was just a bit too expensive after getting 4 ponies. We just need the original ponies and the pretty parlour now.

yes the pretty parlour. that is my major want right now. im just hoping some retailer over here will stock :D
then shipping from overseas won't be a killer.

also they have just got in my little pony logo kids towel. also transformers ones too.
so want these for the kids as well as the boogie boards but they are all so darn expensive.

I'd get a set of ponies for you guys in NZ,  but I just looked up how much it would cost to ship a box of 6 ponies to NZ- (it so happens I have a box of rainbows here to weigh and measure) and the cheapest shipping is $55.50 for first class!!!

So I guess it would be better to wait for them to arrive...

Cotton On is only selling the 4 rainbow ponies they have for sale at the moment. :(

In the past, sometimes "exclusive" ponies do pop up later through other retailers- the exclusivity is likely to be for a limited time. That was true for the ToysRus and Target "exclusives" in many cases.

So I wouldn't give up hope!

(Also just FYI the cheapest shipping for first class to AU or NZ appears to be $23.25) - a ridiculous price, I think worth it to wait and see what happens, since the ponies have only just started to get stocked with any regularity in the US>

yeah with the G4 'starbeam twinkle' Target (which we don't have over here) exclusive set randomly appeared briefly in a department store in NZ almost a year after it was released in the US.

One or two of our stores have also been known to randomly produce packaging on shelves with US Target logos on them some time after they are out in the US, suggesting some discount selling and buying going on behind the scenes between countries. We don't have Target here so when there's an exclusive for that store, we either don't get it or it runs at a different store and doesn't have the Target logo...seeing that is a dead giveaway that end of stock from the US is being dumped off here again :)

We also get ponies in packaging marked Hasbro Canada a fair bit. Which is just weird. But whatever.
