OK So whats the sculpting secret??
« on: February 14, 2012, 12:37:23 AM »
So I have noticed on the last few customs I have received that the sculpting is not hard like apoxie sculpt.... so I'm just wondering, what is this sorta hard but sorta soft stuff that you guys use?

ive been using sculpey.  I dunno if that's what those people used but it does come out a bit softer than the apoxie.

Model magic is one soft thing I've seen used, but I wouldn't use it, as it's not waterproof.

There's also things like eraser clay that come out rubbery textured when cured, but I've never used them!

I would ask the artists who made the customs.

I use sculpey it does seem softer... More porous of something. It isn't has rock solid as apoxie anyway.
I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.

There's Sculpey "pluffy clay" which almost feels like foam when its baked.

I usually use Apoxie Sculpt but as it is sooo expensive I am trying my hand at model magic clay. Right now I really can't tell you if I like it or not. The pony I am trying it on is currently drying. I can't see why it will be a problem, not being water proof, once it is sealed.... however, I don't think it is as easy to work with as apoxie.

I used paper clay when I first started out and it has the consistency of paper mache.  It doesn't stick to ponies without glue though, so I don't recommend it.  Good luck figuring out what it is.  I would follow the suggestion of PM'ing the artist. :)

Cloud clay is your best bet. You will have to apply a coat of modge podge before sculpting as the stuff wont stick to a pony. It air dries, but make sure to dry 24 hours. It drys harder, but still has flexability to it
