Do you ever just throw it away?
« on: October 04, 2013, 04:42:02 AM »
I'm processing some big, jumbled nightmarish lots this week and the temptation is running high.  Do you ever just throw something My Little Pony in the trash?  Like, you've got yet another hopelessly discolored baby buggy or a door with a broken hinge or a piece of pony wear that looks grubby and shabby  or a single, solitary shoe that's disturbingly sticky--do you ever just throw the dang thing away and forget about it?

I cannot even tell you how many pieces of how many sad Peachy parlors I have with hinges that won't stay.  How many brittle and discolored castle shells.

They're driving me crazy today.  I feel a need to restore them (all of them!) to the best possible condition but sometimes that feels like an impossibly big task.  I bought the lot for that one barrette--and I got a bag of really, really unfortunate pieces to go along with it.

Encouragement?  Agreement?  Your own secret desire to toss out boxes of bad pony stuff?  Cheer me up and tell me.

I nearly threw out a lot of accessories I bought on ebay today.  It cost me £3.50 to buy, was tatty, dirty and not the expected colour (photos showed white but things were common yellow), so I decided to return it. I had to use a new box as the original one was wet (?!) when delivered but new box was slightly bigger and taking the package over a postage threshold meaning it was going to cost more than I paid for the item to return it. I so nearly threw the whole thing in the bin on the way back from the post office. Instead I put it into a smaller box, took it back and posted it. Let the seller deal with it and think twice about putting things in such poor condition on ebay...

And yes I do sympathise. I am starting to get that way. A few months ago any pony item in whatever condition was a treasure. Now I have a good idea of prices, condition and restoration problems and I can tell at a glance what is going to clean up well and what could take weeks of painstaking work or in fact never look like new. The thing I often wonder is whether someone might have a treasured set in middling or poor condition just missing that one piece... a shiny new looking piece would be out of place so they might actually want something faded. I'm looking for a middling-faded 'fading pink' tail for my POOR Cocoberry. She has a middling-faded mane and a short frizzy tail. Also Mummy is knitting her a scarf for Christmas to cover the STAPLE marks??!!! on each side of her neck. I'd say wash and dry your barette and display it, then deal with the dregs later :cheer:

I fancy a gold Dream Castle one day... I wonder what the best primer is to use on yellowed pony play sets?

I need a second pony room for all the pieces and things I have.  They DO add up!  :). Though, I never thought of customizing play sets/accessories.

I feel your pain! I have a box of baity ponies that I fear are beyond my skills, and a Brush Me Beautiful boutique that won't stay together due to broken parts. All this is just sitting around, making me feel awful about not getting them fixed up. But I can't bring myself to throw any of it away. Maybe make a lot of it and sell it off? Or offer it for just shipping cost? Someone else may need that one shoe or something, you never know!

Something that's good on plastic. Would suggest starting with a white base.

This buggy had all wheels cracked and was missing the topper... It's fun to customize extra play sets!

:lmao: Me too. :P

In all honesty though, when I ended up with broken things, I very, very rarely sold/gave them away because I didn't have time to restore, or space to store until I found someone who needed them. I'm one of those weird people who can't stand clutter. I know that is a minority on a collector's forum though. :lookround:

That blue buggy is adorable!!!

I threw out a TE Party Time one time XD She was bait, smelled something awful, and was sticky all over! I didn't even want to touch her :yucky: Never saw such scratched up eyes on a TE! I did feel really bad for throwing her away though.

And I've thrown away G3 pony brushes after I got like a hundred of them XD

I will admit, I do have a tendency to throw out McPonies... but that's it. If it's G1 it is kept (even if it's a sticky melty peachy).

I recently threw a bunch of G4 pamphlets away, and I am tempted to throw a few G4 combs away, too. I swear, they magically amass!
