Lol - I'm kind of pleased and surprised that there are as many responses as there are about people not having their cells fixed to their hand    I always thought I was in the minority   

I carry my cell whenever I go out, but at home it usually sits either in my bag or on a shelf in the dining room. I'm terrible checking for messages, as so often I don't hear the thing go off! The only time I ever have it by the bed at night is if my husband is out for the evening and in case he needs to get in touch with me.

As for an alarm clock... who needs one when you have young kids lol!

I don't have a landline which makes my cell phone my main line. I work as a substitute teacher and never know when I'll get called in to teach. So, my phone is always nearby because I don't want to miss out on work. If I didn't have to rely on it for work I wouldn't keep it as close and would always put it on silent during the night.

I usually keep it somewhere in my room, but never right next to me.
I have an, now old-fashioned, flip phone and I don't need more. I use it for calls, texts and sometimes to check e-mail. I don't miss What'sApps and Vibers because no one messages me anyway. Sometimes I think it would be nice to have a smartphone so I could look at the funny cat pictures when I'm at a boring class, but soon I remember that my monthly "bill" is literally $3 and feel satisfied again
I wish I could go completely without my phone, but my parents wouldn't let me because there might be an emergency blah, blah...

Cell phone schmellphone. Mine is 5 years old and well, it still turns on. It's not bad looking (if you really wanna see it click) Honestly if my husband didn't insist that I have it I would go off the grid. I remember when there was a time when we didn't have cell phones attached to ourselves. I don't know how people do it, but if I had one of those smart phones I'd go batty.

The phone does not sleep in the same room as I do. LOL.

I have a normal alarm clock (it's quite fantastic, it's hello kitty in a ladybug outfit-and I got it at the goodwill outlet for ::gasp:: dirt cheap!).

My phone is my clock/alarm so it's always on the nightstand when I go to bed.

I don't have a cellphone anymore, though my sisters will sometimes wake me up.

I DO sleep by my regular phone though.  Its on the stand by my bed.

ETA:  I have an alarm clock but never use it.  I am my own alarm clock and tend to wake myself up around the time I need to get up or need to get others up.

I think it might be apart of the mother hen personality type xD

I only sleep with my phone if I have sleep therapy music on it, and I'm pretty bad at not missing calls in general

Mine is a glorified alarm clock while I'm sleeping. I sleep through texts and other notifications because they're not that loud (or anything more annoying that the bicycle ring that came with it...I know, I'm boring). I don't sleep through phone calls, which unfortunately do happen while I'm sleeping because I work overnights and sleep during the day

I remember when we didn't have cellphones too. I also remember the moment I found out you could get internet on a phone (via Veronica Mars) I had one goal and one goal only in my little mind.

I've read entire books on mine while stranded places, called for rescue when I was having a panic attack, been able to guarantee a meal for someone, and been able to help my mother across the continent with mine. I likes my smartphone.

I can't stand cell phones.  I've had them for emergencies but really I prefer not to have one!

I keep mine kind of close. I don't like to sleep RIGHT next to it just because they say not to but it's on the night stand a bit away.

I have a smartphone and it's my alarm clock. So I have to keep it nearby.

Yes, I always keep it on my bedside table, mostly so I can see what time it is whenever I wake up! My alarm clock stays on the other side of the room (so it makes me get out of bed) so I can't see it at night, or even when it's morning because I'm short sighted.

I also use my phone for alarms too sometimes, despite having an alarm clock. Why? I'm not sure.

Hardly anyone phones/texts me anyway, and my phone is always on silent because phone noises are too startling even when I'm awake!!

I keep my phone next to me at night also. I have it there so I don't miss a call if something would happen to my parents. My dad does not have the best of health But on the good side of it my ringer does not work anymore. I have to put it on vibrate and something I still miss things. Its an older phone that you can have internet on it but I don't have it.

Well, considering that my phone is out-of-service and is only good as an alarm, I guess you could say that I do sleep next to it.
