That's what we did, OneLeo1! Then we watched them all. I thought it would be boring and it's so entertaining.

I still have to watch the Christmas episode though!

I just started watching it last weekend! So funny you mentioned it... It is really amazing. The music reminds me of The Piano. :)

OMG Yes!! My hubby and I loved it! Was one of the only decent shows we had here (free tv)! Can't wait for the christmas special which I think we are getting in Feb.

I also loved (how's this for stark contrast?) Sons of Anarchy. Never thought such a show would appeal to me, when when it was on, it was our tv highlight of the week! can't wait for the next season  :P

Never heard of it.  Is it just on netflix?

It's a BBC show that is airing on PBC as part of Masterpiece Classic. It takes place in 1912 (the first season anyhow) on the day the Titanic sinks, and on the Titanic is the potential heir of Downton Abbey, this huge estate. The Lord Crawley is the head of the estate (well besides his mother who is played by Maggie Smith aka McGonaggal from Harry Potter) and they have all girls so they have to find an heir.  But it tells the lives of the Lord and his family AND the servants.  It's great.

We're going to watch Upstairs Downstairs, which is what Downton Abbey is based on, next. It's on Netflix instant too.

I'm a huge DA fan too, and that's saying something from someone who doesn't even have a TV, much less watch a lot of drama series.

I won't say too much as I'm not sure how far into the series those of you in the states are, but the second season (and the Christmas special) are even better than the first, in my opinion. :)

I watched both the series, not exactly historically accurate, (spot the tv ariels etc!) but gives an idea of what my great grandparents did for a living!  (great grandad was a Butler to a Lord somebody, and another relative was a ladies maid). It was actually made for ITV in the UK, not BBC, which as I am a BBC snob shows why there are mistakes in it! Tee hee.
I like the elderly countess, some of her looks are priceless!

I loved the first season
but haven't watched any of the second season yet though. (I missed the airing of the first episode of the season and have been meaning to watch it online to catch up.)
I wanna wait until I feel like I can sit down and attentively watch it too.

edit:
I just read they will start filming season 3 next month!!  ^.^

I watch that show too. I'm surprised I like it. Lol

I tried downtown abby. My mom loves it and heard about it from her. I watched the first one and want to watch more. :)

My mother got me onto Downton Abby.  I am enjoing the show but I'm not totally obsessed with it.  I prefer Spartacus, The Walking Dead and (as mentioned on the previous page) Sons of Anarchy. Saying that, I will definitely watch season 3 of Downton when it finally airs here :)

Great to see other Sons of Anarchy fans here too! Kiwimlp - I don't think we have to wait toooo much longer.... I saw some teaser snippets in TV3's promo ads recently... I got very excited  ;)

I've seen both seasons and the Christmas Special. So good (in kind of a sappy soap-opera way sometimes).

Maggie Smith is the best!
