Secret wish is sticky and discolored?
« on: October 04, 2016, 03:03:26 PM »
So I collect any unusual bait I can, I like having a wide variety to work with. A long time ago I got a Secret wish in a lot of baits, I tossed her into my baits box and forgot about her.

Today Im sorting them out and I find secret wish on the very bottom of the bin. Shes turned orange, and her head more so then the rest of her, is also like kinda sticky? Im kinda disappointed :/ because sparkle ponies are hard to find baits for and she was the only one I had and now she's kinda gross.

Any ideas what happened? Nothing was spilled into the box, its kept in a storage bin, inside a cabinet, and she was the only pony that seemed affected by this, beside one others hair being all gross because it was touching the glitter pony. I wonder if I could wash her, but I would still worry that if I ever customized her then she would get sticky and gross again down the road. :/

Unfortunately the Divine Shine ponies break down really easy. I have one MIB that her head has lost all the glitter and turned a different color.  What's making Secret Wish sticky is the plasticizer leaking from her. It's sad that they are breaking down so soon when the G1 Sparkle ponies aren't.

Aw man :c

I guess there's not really any point looking for more G3 glitter baits then.. If that's even a possibility that it will happen at some point, id hate to make a custom for someone and then have it break down over time. :/ Really a shame cause they're so pretty u.u

Here's a pic of my two MIB Divine Shines. They are really pretty. I wish they didn't have the break down problem.

I, too, have a discolored Secret Wish. I picked her up at my local flea market a few years back. My original Secret Wish is still her correct color, I believe.

Here's my discolored one. I think she's actually pretty with this orange-y color :P

Well there are g3 fakies with glitter but I am not sure if they have the same problem.

It seems that G2 and G3 ponies have the sticky problem, because my G2 Sunsparkle became sticky, unfortunately. :(

I have a G3 sparkle fakie and I'm trying to remember if she had that problem or not. She's somewhere in a box I think so I'll have to find her.

Yeah if it was ONLY a discoloring problem then I wouldn't mind, Mine is actually still pretty despite now being orange lol, shes very glittery and all.. Its the stickiness that's the real deal breaker.

The plasticizer leak can be washed off with de-greasing dish soap. Just give her a good scrub.

This line is my favorite G3 line and it has been HEARTBREAKING to watch my set slowly die. I bought them in stores and they have lost perhaps 80% of their glitter. There's absolutely nothing to be done to prevent it. Just luck of the draw.

I used to have Secret Wish as well, she discolored too and her glitter disappeared. I wonder where the glitter went...

If you buy any nice ones, always keep them very cool! Nowhere that ever gets warm.
they are so delicate when it comes to breaking down (getting slimy, discolouring). :(

I just won't be buying any from now on. :/ my only interest in them is as custom Bait, and If there is even a slight possibility that they could get sticky down the road, then it's not worth the risk for me.

I dont even know what to do with the one I have now, I feel bad throwing a pony away xD but shes very baity (no hair) lol Maybe I could experiment with her or something

In regards to the two clear/glittery G2s, at least, I've bought them when they were advertised as horrendously sticky, and sure, they were sticky when they arrived, but after a day or two it just went away and the plastic entered the rock solid stage... Not ideal but at least they don't attract dust anymore. Maybe the climate where I live agrees with them? I'm totally going to find a Divine Shine pony now to test that theory...
I finally found my grail!

I think I only have one of these left now. My sister may have one too, I'm not sure, but her ponies are away. I didn't know about the discolouration issue until about last year when people on here were talking about it and when I knew that I got my G3 down and extracted my pony - which I'm pretty sure is also Secret Wish - and sat her on my desk so she couldn't stickify or hurt any of the other G3 ponies.

She's still there and as yet no discolouration, though she was a little sticky when I got her out, she's fine at the moment. It made me wonder 2 things.

#1 whether exposure to air actually helps to delay the sticky or not
#2 whether the cooler British climate has anything to do with her not breaking down as fast as some others.

In which case, there may be something in working out how to postpone this as long as possible. From what FantasticFirefly said, it sounds like temp is a factor.

Of course if it's random pot luck, that's another matter, but it might be interesting to work out if there is a pattern with the speed of breakdown vs temperature and storage. When I got my Secret Wish out she had no sign of discolouration or glitter loss and she still doesn't, but the fact she was a little sticky does make me wonder.

My Queen Sunsparkle is also sticky, but also hasn't discoloured.

None of my G1 sparkle ponies have any issues whatsoever. Not that I'm sure they ever get this issue, but I know they can discolour.
