DON'T DO IT! I recall oxyclean completely destroying tinsel, since it reacts with the metals in it... D8

edit: Yep, here's an archived post all about it! I hope you haven't dunked them yet... http://mlparena.com/archive/Forums/viewtopic/p=3617652.html

Bumpin' with an update! ♥

Huh... The only thing I can think of that might be causing this is that maybe you guys aren't holding onto the center of the folded yarn firm enough while you're brushing? When I'm brushing it, I have at least a centimeter of the yarn pinched between my fingers which I don't let go of until the whole thing's brushed out. If I were to partially let go or not have a tight enough grip, the fibers would definitely all get pulled out during brushing.

It might also be the type of brush you're using. You need to use a wire slicker brush, like this, NOT a pin brush or bristle brush, like this. The slicker brush is designed for detangling long-haired pet breeds, whereas the pin brush is designed for short-haired breeds, specifically to remove shedding. I imagine if you used that kind of brush on yarn, it'd just pull out all the "shedding" fibers it could.  ^^;

Not sure what I want to do about the tails now. On one hand, the magnets can be worn over clothing, but I find a lot of fabric blocks the connection and it ends up falling off. I was planning to do a hole and peg thing that would stay put, but need the clothing to accommodate it...hmm...dunno.
That's why I wanted to use rare earth magnets! They're a special type of magnet that is RIDICULOUSLY strong - I think they're used to make bucky balls, too? If it's any indication of their strength, I've used them in fursuit costuming before to keep the flap concealing a zipper closed, with two layers of faux fur, two layers of fleece, and a zipper between them. They'll definitely hold on just some doll clothes. :P

You usually can't find them in craft stores, but you can get them online, like here! I wanted to get some of the little micro disk ones, should fit their lower backs nicely.

Rare earth magnets are super-strong and should work well for making tails hold through layers of clothes but I feel I must say:

PSA: Please be careful keeping these magnets away from children and pets, everyone! I know none of us would go out and purposefully feed them to children or animals, but these magnets are strong enough to cause serious health problems if accidentally swallowed. Please be cautious!

Aaaand that's why bucky balls were pulled off the market. ^^; If you don't have nibbly children or thieving pets to worry about, though, they're awesome!

I mostly use Bernat Satin! You can get it online, I just use it for most of my reroots because my local craft store carries a TON of it. It doesn't have to specifically say "microfiber" on the packaging, just as long as it's 100% acrylic, with the fibers being VERY fine. Pick a yarn that is very smooth and soft. If it seems to have a bit of a "halo" of fiber fluff around it, that's usually a good indication of its softness and the micro quality of the fibers:

(that's Bernat Satin btw)

I also look for yarns that have a very satiny, shiny luster to them - which winds up making the rehair shiny and satiny too!

And yes, you DO get a pile of fluff when doing this! Brushing out the yarn sheds a LOT of fiber. I have a whole grocery bag almost filled to the top with fluff just from rehairs I've done these last two weeks. Just brush the yarn out gently, remove the excess fluff from your pet brush, and keep brushing it out until the shedding stops. That leaves you with a strongly-rooted plug without a lot of excess fuzz floating around in the hair.

Also, depending on the brand you're using, sometimes the max fiber length will be a bit shorter or longer - Bernat Satin seems to max at 6", whereas a turquoise "anti-pill" acrylic microfiber I have (forgot the brand) is only 5" max. So, it's kind of trial and error concerning length, since that has to do with how long the company makes each of their fibers.

Hope that helps!

Oh wow, so some online stores have her. Well, I'll make myself wait until I can go into a retail store to get them. This will be one of those few times I will have to get fashion packs for them. They look so fun!

I wish they would have gave her a tail, though! That would have been super cute.
I know, right? >_< To fix that, I plan on drilling out a very small hole in her lower back and gluing in a mini rare earth magnet, then covering it with smooth apoxie. Then I can make a bunch of cute tails from different faux furs and fabrics with another magnet sewn into their base... that way they can be easily swapped and worn over clothing! Should be simple!

These dolls are SO CUTE, I can't wait to get my hands on them for CUSTOMIZING! I really want to swap out their hair-ears for some faux fur ears sewn onto the ear pegs, and give them tails, too. ^.^ I've got plans for recreating some lolita brand dresses, especially those in the Mary Magdalene line... They would just look so great in them!

Also can I say how happy I am they don't have huge boobs? I'm really glad to see a doll line that doesn't emphasize female sexualization/objectification and body standards onto young girls so much. They just seem to focus on cute, innocent, creative fashion fun.

Not sure if it was linked in here yet, but here's a really great review article with a TON of detail pics! http://www.toyboxphilosopher.com/2013/07/pinkie-cooper-by-bridge-direct.html

I'll probably be waiting until they're out in stores here to pick some up, though... To those of you that have them already, can you figure out a way to remove the inset eyes for repainting, or are they completely sealed in there?

Eventually I'd like to get her just so I can partially deflock her... to have a french poodle cut with fluff only around the ankles, neck, and lower back.

Dang, I guess it is just dark pink. I was really digging that fire engine red I thought it was. I guess this calls for some alt. color rehair work on a regular Starshine, instead... Thanks for your help anyway, everyone!

Here's the ebay link since I won't be trying to snag her anymore, in case anyone else wanted to try for her, lol!

[edit to remove live auction link love pkw xxx]

if its from a german seller i could help w translating :)
They're French! Unfortunately the problem isn't with me understanding them (I just run it through google translate), it's them understanding me.

(If anyone speaks french, how do you say "is her hair red in the front" and "how much for shipping to the US"?)

It's the only photo I have from the seller, and we have some uh, translation issues, so do you think that forelock's the normal pink or is it bright red? Looks way red to me, but it could be just the camera...

What do you think, should I flip out and drop big bucks on her, or is this just the normal rainbow hair scheme with pink? If it's actually red in the rainbow, it's soooo pretty, I'd really love her but I don't want to overpay on a misunderstanding...

What would you price her as if she has normal rainbow hair? PC if that's actually red in the rainbow?

Augh, foreign purchasing dilemmas. :drunk:
