Title: What is it the appeals to you about Nirvana ponies?
Post by: pinkkittywinks on January 10, 2020, 06:51:28 AM
Hi ponies,

What is it that appeals to you about Nirvana ponies?

I have been wondering myself what attracted me to them. I guess it was more of the feeling they gave me when I saw them, it is hard to describe. I guess it is similar to the feeling you get when you see a new pony in the shops as a child and it makes you feel excited  ^.^

I think for me, it's largely because of their uniqueness and rarity and also the mystery that still surrounds some of them. It's like, when you own a Nirvana, you're owning something that's not as widely known and collected as regular releases. So it feels super special, like you've got a little treasure in your hands <3

They're also so interesting in how they came to be, too! And then of course there's the prospect of new ones being discovered even now, since a lot of them are still mysterious.

I really like the color schemes of some of them.  I haven't actively sought any but I've considered making customs of some of them.

For me its much that maany of them are so different from the regular releases. The variation of colours and poses and so on:)

The colors of some of them. The green Bowtie with the multi-colored hair on the Bubbles pose is so pretty.

The pink/red/blue on Earth Pony Milky Way is very pleasing.

This.  Some of the colors and color combos in the normal releases are kind of blah.  Too much pink and purple.  Not enough green or contrasting color palettes.

hands down the different poses and the often brighter / unique colors used

I love the uniqueness of dutch diary, german nightlight, sitting bowtie, heck all the colombian MLP - especially daddy style, the argentina colores vivos :-) yep just so much fun discovering how big the MLP herd is really and I had a lot of fun with using the nirvana as a way to homeschool with a map showing how kids all over were playing just like we were

I think what I will always love the most is while I was "stuck" at home (by choice - no complaints) with wee ones that nirvana and the MLP-community here was a great way to have a hobby that I could also actively enjoy with my kids same time so accomplished like a two-fer bit of retail/self-care therapy with the excuse that I  then used the shared tea party time with our respective gen-buddies to be sharing a bit of school-time teaching about the respective country.  So nirvana for me was a great hands-on tool for my blossoming diplomats :-)

oh and the added advantage of  using pony-currency in trading  nirvana was a super fab way to teach the kids about economics as well ;-) so yeah, just a lot of bonus material while feeding that childhood collecting itch

I'm actually more interested in Country Exclusives tbh. Mountain Boys, Tales Ponies, Roller Skaters, German Rainbows, ReUnicorno, Seaside Babies.

I'm not really a Nirvana nerd, though I like and have the Spanish TAFs (partially better than the US releases when it comes to pose choices) or like the Italian blue Lickety Split/ Posey just because of the color combinations.

As for the Takaras, it is the really cute appearance and that these (besides the key chains) are the only Japanized versions of the My little Pony brand. As I love Japan and MlP - the perfect combination. Additionally the cooperation between Takara Tomy and Hasbro was really great (though Hasbro got the better deal with the Transformers in the end). I love their color variations and their uniqueness in the pony universe.

I am really enjoying reading everyone's response, it goes to show just how personal collecting is :)

I thought Re Unicorno was a Nirvana? :o

The fact that Italians never seem to have cancer or discoloration when their US counterparts look terrible (Tickle/Trickles for example).
Flipside, I like the imperfections that most other nirvana's have, paint mis-prints, missing hair... smooooooooooshy bodies!

What appeals to me is the fact MLP was global and not just enjoyed by children in America and Canada. I love the fact these little guys have been around the world and were once a little girls friend before growing out of them. Seeing them all together on my nirvana shelf gives me joy in knowing the possible adventures they've had.

I'm also a fan of the bolder colour schemes!

He is, he was made in italy.
The others are technically more regional exclusives then country exclusives. Most of them where sold in several European countries.

I love the variations that Nirvanas have on the original theme. Different colours, different poses, different ways of doing their symbols or eyes. I love their individual quirks: all Italians have blue eyes; all S.A. ponies have rooted tails etc.

I'm excited when I get a pony from a new country for the first time and I can sit and see how it differs from the regular releases, even in small ways.

I just love ponies  :)

I'm more into unique or varied enough to be as good as unique Ponies. Nirvana doesn't disappoint there. I have Lambaditsa (see her thread in Pony Corral), & she, Ladybird, & two or three of the Spanish piggy Ponies are unique concepts, while many Argentinian Ponies are so different from their US/UK counterparts they might as well be different Ponies, like rainbow Truly & the one I like to call Southern Star. It's a chance to get a Pony who's different, new to me & has her own history, particularly when you have nearly all the US/UK Ponies there were.

When I was a kid, I had somehow never seen the advertisements for Ember, so when my babysitter's daughter trotted out this symbol-less baby pony, who was all blue and seemed weird and fake but was entirely legit, I found her so mysterious! Nobody I knew as a kid had her, or even knew she existed beyond that one kid (who also decided to scream at me that it was the first pony *ever* and tried to fight me (actually kicked me) about it when I told her that I was pretty sure that baby ponies were pretty new, so maybe she meant first baby. She was much younger than me so I eventually just let it go.

Nirvanas give me that feeling.  Without the feeling of having to fight with a preschooler.

I love the pose and eyes of the piggy ponies. Also it's thrilling to me to own something rarevand wanted.

I'm definitely into that.  I actually like the face when you are looking straight on at the CP ponies more than the Bubbles pose.
