I feel like he could make G2 work? With their agile-looking little bodies. But there would be at least one pony that looks more like G1, and he'd have that beard Bluth likes so much

There have been some fanarts with MLP done in Bluth style.

I think Bluth style would work great for MLP. Don Bluth movies had a nice balance between cuteness and darkness (just like the first MLP special, Rescue at Midnight Castle!).

Maybe it's just me, but for some reason that screenshot made me think of the G2 pony game, and how the ponies went wherever they did at the end. Maybe that's where they ended up...
I swear that butterfly was made of evil.

Yeah I've seen this image before too, there is another image that goes with it as well. Google is showing both images but the site is a site I rather not click on and see where things go

That picture is by Duo Cartoonist, the same people who did the fantastic "The Moon Rises" animation! It was for an animated fan-origin story about Luna and Celestia called "Choices", which was unfortunately cancelled (iirc, Duo wanted to start focusing more on original works rather than fanart)
Not gonna lie, that was the first thing I thought of when I heard "Don Bluth-inspired mlp" :P would've loved to see the finished project.
