In Generation 1, a variety of non-pony critters were made in a pony-like style. Zebra, camel, giraffe, lion, moose, dinosaur, llama, elephant, panda, cow, sheep, kangaroo, Spike the dragon who also appeared in the show…am I missing any? Then in Generation 4, many more species (real and mythical) appeared – bison, griffons, zebra again, dragon again, cows?, deer?, yak? and more, but not many of them got toys.
Am I missing G2 and G3? I can’t think of them having “friend” species like 1 and 4.
Soooooo…What pony friends would you have liked to see in past generations, in the shows or as toys? OR! What friends would you like to see in G5?
For me, I would have liked to see a donkey G1 toy! As a kid I really liked the Brighty of the Grand Canyon book, so I would have liked a donkey-pony. Maybe it could be lavender with a darker purple mane and tail…or maybe orange…hmmm. And I wish they made a G4 toy of the little girl bison Strongheart, I liked her a lot. For G5, a bird friend in the show would be awesome, maybe an albatross or another larger bird.

I would have liked to see more cat and dog friends, as pets and talking characters !

I agree about donkeys. They would be so cute, with the big ears and all! More equine-adjacent animals would be fun in any generation, with more zebras (g1 zigzag, g4 zecora) and such.
Goats would be super cute, too.

I'd really like to see good toys of g5 of some of the species shown in G4. It's plausible, they might reappear, since it takes place in the same world. Specifically the ones with hair, like donkeys, Kirin, and Hippogriffs, (and sea ponies. I'd like to see a mixture of the g1 and g4 designs.) I've wanted Haven Bay and Princess Skystar since they came out, but the hair quality was so low at that point in G4 I knew I wouldn't enjoy them. I'd like to see breezies again, too! Do they count as pony friends? I think their size and antenne makes them more like pony friends than flutters or wingers. I'd like to see it more g3 style, with the symbols, actual hair, and fabric wings. The g4 version was just meh. Course, I'd like to see more of the pony friends we already have in g5. Like zebras, lions, giraffes, etc.' And I hope we get more dragons!

The only one I can think of right now that you missed (I think!) is Gilda. Is she a griffon?

A BUNNY, I would have gone nuts for a BUNNY mlp as a child, I adored bunnies :)

Deer, especially deer with antlers.
Goats, both with & without horns.
Pet parrots for Barnacle & Mimic.
G3 Spike (still want one & if one can be Customised so much the better!!!)
Pet animals for the happy Tails Ponies (related to their rumpmarks)
Hedgehogs, squirrels, small birds, pet rabbits... just loads of pets for Ponies!!!

Definitely more ungulates. Anything with hooves! Those are my favourite "friends," I think they translate much more gracefully to MLP form, and I don't really like the non-ungulates except for Kingsly.
(I know Edgar counts as an ungulate but uh, not a fan of him lol, I meant even & odd toed ungulates- I like to call the categories I mean by that "hoofers" as a better collective term for them. XD)
Donkeys, bison, yaks, mules, etc!
While I'm dreaming, a sleipnir pony? XD
Also, any of the breeds featured in the medias that were never made! For any gen.

Foxes and bunnies, yes, definitely!! I am REALLY surprised we never got a donkey. (Did they make a toy of that G4 donkey, I think his name's Cranky or something like that? I feel like I remember seeing a blind bag of him, maybe?) And deer! Those two seem like obvious pony companion choices to me. Need more hooved animals!!
More kitties! I think domestic animals maybe work better as MLP pets than friends, but either way we need more pony pets too. :P I really liked how the early G4 brushables all came with cute little animal friends, I'd love to see that come back. Ponies need pets!
I would LOVE kirins and sleipnirs omg!!! And more hippogriffs please! The two they made for G4 are two of my favourite G4s <3
Would also like to see more fantasy species, like Bushwoolies, Furbobs (I WISH they'd made those planned Furbob toys!), etc
G2 had a little dragon buddy (http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/G2_Spike) but I think that was the only sort of pet/companion that gen had? and G3 had their version of Spike, but only in the cartoons.
edit: oooh and more bears would be nice :> Like Moondreamers' Ursas, those are so cute, would love to see something like those for MLP!

I would have loved to see a G4 manticore! An adult dragon closer the slim ones in S1 and Lauren's concept art would have been fun too. And of course, zebras/donkeys/kirins/etc.
As for pets, I do recall that G3 AJ came with a raccoon that I really adored. And I always really wanted a G3 Spike.
For G5, we're getting a flying pomeranian, and based on those German toy descriptions, Izzy's getting beetles. I hope the rest get pets as well!

I designed a deer once as well, but that was probably thrown out in an art purge last year.

I really loved the early G4 toys with their little friend figures. I can't see them being any more detailed than just molded plastic now without them basically being sold as a 2-pack (where the tiny friends were more like accessories) but I'd be down for it.
G1, it would have been amazing if there were a series of sea ponies with aquatic friends like fish, dolphins, etc.

(In general I wish the Sea Pony line had gone farther and had playsets and such)
