Wanted! / White tail needed!
« on: February 22, 2020, 06:56:09 PM »
I have a Nightglider found at garage sale in need of a tail.  I’m looking for an original G1 white tail in good condition. Might be willing to buy the whole pony if she’s baity, as Nightglider needs a few mane plugs donated too. ;)

Trader & Shipping Support / Re: Mercari cancelled sale
« on: April 02, 2019, 05:58:17 PM »
She has a pseudonym on Mercari- they allow that now. And no, I am not quite ready to name the person since I can’t be sure they are lying; it’s that I would like to check the bad trader list to see if the person has done this before.

And unfortunately I can’t leave any feedback- Mercari doesn’t allow it once a sale is canceled.  All I really want to find out is if this seller has done this before.  If they have I would share the name as it appears ponies are all they sell (at least so far).

Trader & Shipping Support / Mercari cancelled sale
« on: April 02, 2019, 02:27:32 PM »
I was super excited early yesterday morning to find a hard to find childhood pony listed on Mercari, with accessories. I immediately bought her.

Fast forward to this afternoon; the seller messaged me canceling the sale, saying she’s sorry but the pony sold elsewhere and she ‘forgot to take the listing ‘ down.  But I am suspicious- the deal was a really good price with the accessories.  I can’t find a sales record anywhere else of that pony, and I even did a reverse image search of the sale photo. I’m thinking she canceled and will resell elsewhere for more money.

It will take 5-10 business days for me to get my money back, plus I’m just super disappointed. Is this a common problem on Mercari? Do we have a bad seller list for there? I hesitate to use their name without more proof, but they sell a lot of ponies. I’m super bummed and would like to know of this is a known issue on that platform.

It was the last HTF pony I’m looking to replace from my lost childhood herd:(

Lovely! My favorites thing about Gusty is the combo of that green with her white body.  It makes for a striking army!

Guilty!  I think, ooh, I’ll sell this one, I don’t collect her.  Then I notice the charms of that particular pony and decided maybe it should stay...

Pony Corral / Great article on the challenge of preserving plastics
« on: August 28, 2018, 08:47:50 PM »
Found this great article in the New York Times today that I think many here would be interested in- it’s about the struggle to preserve plastic items.

I found several things we’ve known about for a while, like plasticizer ‘leaking’ and discoloration (cancer).  But the article has more details and talks about some of the whys.  Here’s the link- https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/28/science/plastics-preservation-getty.html?smid=fb-nytimes&smtyp=cur

I like both the prizes and partner ideas! I would be happy to contribute a monetary amount or pony/ponies to award and swap.  I’ve shipped internationally a bit as well and would be game for that too.

Wait, there’s a G1 Hallmark series?! (I’ve been under a rock for a while).  Oh man- I need them all!  Do we know how many they are going to make?

Do you think storing things in plastic accelerates this? Similar to storing unripe fruit with ripe?  I sometimes wonder if offgassing/plastic breakdown can accelerate the process when in close proximity.  Not exactly like it’s contagious, just that it might speed the process up.
I’m thinking about buying unbleached muslin and using cardboard or wood for long term storage.  Of course the risk there is it isn’t waterproof :/

G1s for me! They are the toy of my childhood :). But I have the few odd G3s and even a G2 or two in my trade box.

Off Topic / I'm not dying!
« on: June 26, 2018, 07:39:44 AM »
So,  I just have to share this news.  I've been having strange headaches for 6-8 months, above and beyond my usual migraines.  I finally went to my doctor about 2 months ago, and we started doing tests...

My gp ordered an MRI and referred me to a neurologist.  Saw the neurologist ~1 month ago, she said the MRI without contrast my gp ordered wasn't informative, and I would need another MRI with contrast, and a CT scan.  She was reassuring but we were trying to rule out an aneurysm or brain cancer....

Well, my results came in yesterday but the neurologist is out on maternity leave and the nurse was out sick.  Finally heard from her this morning.  CT and MRI with contrast let us rule out the big scary things like cancer or aneurysm!!!  I am so happy right now.  I've got a husband and young kids and I was just so worried.  We didn't tell anyone about the concern or testing; I didn't want to deal with their worry or questions.  I also didn't want my 10 year old to hear anything- she's a worrier anyway and I didn't want her freaked out.

So, TLDR I don't have brain cancer or an aneurysm, and this is one of the few places I can shout Yay! about it.

Do you have to worry about the dye migrating over time, like to the body or other things it touches?  I love the way it turned out and have a few ponies that could use a touch up!

Pony Corral / Re: Who's your favorite pony?

Of my childhood ponies, SS Truly.  She was the one toy I took to school with me and I remember that still.
Of my adult collection I actually really love Dancing Butterflies.  I love the pose even though it has trouble standing, and she is so bright and cheerful.  She ties with NightGlider and Diamond Dreams- guess I like fancy symbols!

I would be interested in the pony and accessories if and when you decide to sell them together:)

Pony Corral / Re: To deflock or not to deflock
« on: December 05, 2017, 09:17:14 PM »
I have a little group I'll deflocking now (as time permits) due to their symbols being painted on...
Apparently some little one got frustrated not seeing the symbols clearly, and so decided to literally paint them on over the flock!  I tried soaking and water/soap but the paint seems very well set.  The ponies are lovely, though!
I too feel the pull of preserving the flocked versions, but I do hate how the glue yellows :/. I'll deflock  if it ruins my enjoyment of the pony.
