So I was just asked if I can make a carousel pony, and to be honest, I hadn't ever thought of how the base and pole making goes. What should I look for, what is used? Anything special I should know about gluing it in place? Anything else you think a beginner to the carousel craft should know?

Hey all - I need some advice on what to do. I am going to be learning how to reroot with mohair, and I wanted some advice on several things. (this is for a MH doll, btw)
1. How much mohair do you need on average for a girl head? I am hearing that 1 ounce is about right, but I don't want to under/over order.
2. When you rehair with the mohair, do you need to do every single plug or do you skip plugs, etc? How big of a plug does it take to do one?
3. Is the tool or knot method better?
4. I would love some recommendations on what else I could use besides mohair that is a cheaper option, or just another good option! I have been prowling the internet for a few days and have several ideas, but I would love to hear input from other customizers!

So I was commissioned to make a Rapunzel/Tangled custom for a very young girl (she's about to turn two) - and I have asked the mother if this was to be a display piece, but she was more inclined to think it would be something her daughter could play with. My question is this:
How on earth can I make this child safe? I know I can use E6000 to keep the hair secure (I was planning on doing the braids like she has in the scene when she finally gets to the town), but I want to do airbrush gradients, repaint the body, the WORKS. I want to do lanterns on one side, the flower, the tower, even a Pasquel for her, but I really want to make sure it's safe before I do anything over the top...which means I might have to tone it down to just a regular body, small symbol, and rerooted and styled hair, which is fine, but I want it to be nice as well, and still very safe.
Any advice?

I finally get the idea about the corset base, and I will keep practicing (thank you everyone for the help and advice, and the links to the tutorials!) but there was no mention anywhere about how to do ruffles! I used the extruder to make the ruffles on my Twisted Fairy Tale pony, but that won't work for every pony, and I want to really learn more. Any tips and ideas, especially with layering ruffles? I am assuming that you would cut it from rolled clay, and that some experience in clothes making would help, but I am NO seamstress, hehehe

For babyblueducky, I chose to use Alice in Wonderland as her Twisted character. My idea was to follow Alice through Wonderland, but she did not keep her head, and she went mad herself. Alice took one of the tea cup saucers and turned it into an ax, brandishing the weapon on her mad dash through Wonderland. The teacup and saucer, sitting on the mushroom, remind her to stop and "have some tea" now and again. Meanwhile, you mustn't ignore the main event, center-stage on the base. The Queen, who's ravings about "Off with their head!" have quite gotten to dear Alice, and she has taken her new weapon-of-choice, and done exactly as the Queen has wished...and taken off the Queen's OWN head! Also, as the Queen was so fond of her garden, and Alice is still on her own trip down the rioting rabbit hole, she has continued to paint the roses red, but no longer with paint, oh no....this time, with the Queen's own blood. Yes, our Alice is quite mad now, don't you think? She hides it quite well behind that beautiful smile. Her corset sports individual panels, each one different from the others: each card deck is represented, as well as the Mad Hatter's tea party, the door and vial, the white rabbit, and the Cheshire Cat's classic coat. This was my first time sculpting a corset, anything gore related, hair, a base, all of it, so this was ALL new for me. Congrats babyblueducky on so much cool stuff! So, I have a bunch of old, handmade clothes that I would love to have taken up to fit my Pullips, but I am NO good at doing that myself. I would love to work out some sort of trade (jewelry for you, your dolls, custom pony, something off my trade list, that sort of thing), as I am very short on cash right now.
I can provide pics and will add some more to this post soon, but I'm heading out the door right now, so I will have to add them in a bit.
Just wondered if there was someone who would be interested or able to help me out!
