Blind Bag Pony Identification
« on: February 20, 2014, 08:19:03 AM »
Each wave has some duplicates, is there anyway to tell which pony came from which wave? (besides looking at their cards?)

Or are they pretty much the same, i know on the bottom of the hooves they all have different numbers..

You could look it up on Strawberry Reef, I know they keep pretty up to date on Blind Bag releases.

I've looked, but they dont say anyway to tell them apart from each wave or other special release. For instance Pinkie Pie was released in wave 1-3,  wave 6 and 9. They all look identical, if not the same. This isn't counting the special releases like the playhouse puzzle, advert calendar, three figure sets, etc. In all i think there are over 14 releases of what looks like the same mold. But is there anyway to tell where the figure came from originally?

Not really, unfortunately. I don't think the hoof numbers correspond to any specific release. Basically the only way I know of to tell is by looks.

There is some variation in them mainly in colours and sometimes eye positioning, etc. There are threads with Breyer's comparison pictures of the glitter versions of the main 6 and there is a thread with the differing Pinkie Pies floating around the Corral. Unfortunately there is some cross over between waves and individual releases due to them sometimes being manufactured at the same time. So, yes, almost every release is slightly different [some significant, most minor] however on some of them its almost hard to say for 100% certainty [in case it crossed over in time/wave].

I'm 60 percent sure that the numbers of the hooves correspond to the waves. I think sometimes they use duplicates from previous waves to fill the new ones.

Which numbers? The 5 digit numbers? They signify when it was manufactured not which wave they were in; in theory it should be that the later the number the later the wave of course but with so much cross over in production and often items being produced simultaneously or out of order its hard to really ever say for certain.
