Celestial Steed resinpony
« on: April 16, 2013, 06:17:28 PM »
I have completed my Secret Project!    Here is my prototype of the Celestial Steed mount from World of Warcraft. Sparkles here is crafted of molded resin that has been embedded in glitter (body) and dyed (armor), then assembled and painted, and sealed in a gloss to really bring out a shine.

I am willing to create more of these. A celestial pony would cost $60 US plus shipping.

What a great idea, I wanted one of these for my priest, but I was tapering off playing and couldn't justify the expense. Is there any way to incorporate the constellation skeleton (painting it on, some weird embedded setup with beads and wire)? That was my favorite detail.

I thought about it, but I'm not sure that it would be feasible. I would have to build a wire frame and place it inside the molds before pouring, and that could cause them to leak or become damaged if the wire were to become pinched inside. As the mold material is rather expensive, I don't think I could justify extra wear and tear on the mold for the effect. Painting the skeleton poses a different problem in that viewing angle would change the effect; it would not look right from every angle.

Oh well, still great work. Your attention to detail shows, even on features you couldn't incorporate!

Very cool. :) As far as the skeletal aspect goes, you could maybe make a skeleton mold to cast as a seperate piece to put inside the pony mold? It wouldn't need any wires, then, and you would be able to make sure it fit properly. :awake:
My creativity keeps running into a lack of time and resources.
I'm also available via twitter at @Kazzellin :)

So many projects!! What do I want to work on? :awake:

Perhaps that would work, but it still runs into the problem of inserting something into the pony mold. My mold is one piece, and designed for pulling things out of, rather than the other way; it would add more stress to the mold, which means it would have to be replaced sooner, and there would still be no guarantee that the skeleton would stay put inside the pony mold the way I would need it to while resin was being poured in and curing.

My other thought was a fishing line-and-bead skeleton, which might be flexible enough, but might not even show up  Just idle musings.

All characters on your account can now use all pets and all mounts other than the class based ones like warlock and paladin steeds.
