MLP Nirvana / Re: Did I ruin my Nirvana permanently? :(
« on: January 21, 2023, 11:08:13 AM »
Thank you all for the responses <3 It lifted me up. My current plan is to build up color on the white marks using many layers of pastels and mr super clear in between each layer. I think this way it will be the most efficient to mix in the pastel color with her body color, as pastels are great for gradients. Paint (and its texture) would make it too obvious where I used it on I think. I will update you all once I get started with the fixing process. For now she was thoroughly cleaned up using dish soap and hot water (a second time) as you guys suggested.

MLP Nirvana / Did I ruin my Nirvana permanently? :(

So...
https://mlparena.com/index.php?topic=402815.msg1871719#msg1871719
here's a post I made like 9 months ago. My restoration journey went well.. or so I thought.
For starters, I decided to use hydrogen peroxide (picture 1 for brand) to clean up her pink marker stains and yellowness. It worked great, the pinkness started to fade away nicely, especially on the eyes. Little did I know it can cause long term effects on a pony that isn't white.. I had not realized that and I did not think that could happen, I thought that if the pony is made from blue plastic it's only going to remove the external oils that made the pony yellow.. turns out it decided to eat through the blueness in places I used the peroxide on, some much more visibly than others. I did most of the treatment like 5 months ago and then I stopped for a couple of months because I didn't have motivation to work on it. She was cleaned up from remaining peroxide from her last treatment thoroughly and I left her in the UV box I used to treat her in (I don't get a lot of sunlight), the light was of course turned off, there was nothing that could damage her. Today I open the box and she has those white stains all over her. Is there anything I can even to do fix her? I thought about dying but I have no experience with that and finding a matching color would be impossible, plus the parts that ARE blue would darken as well, wouldn't they? So I guess my only option now is airbrush her to match the rest of her body and then use mr super clear and varnish so the paint doesn't chip off, but I don't know if it will transition well enough onto the plastic, the leg area concerns me the most here... Is there actually any sensible way to fix her? I feel really bad about ruining her since she's rare, I really did not think that could happen and throughout my research I didn't see any possible bad results from using this method to get rid of the yellowness. I'm stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

« on: May 14, 2022, 07:19:08 AM »
can y'all help me identify those hairclips? my pinkie pie broke and I was not able to fix her and I would therefore love to buy a new one, but I bought them second hand like 2 years ago and the person I bought them from cant be reached (judging by their profile name they got it from a thrift shop). I cannot find a single picture of them on the internet. the only thing written on them is 2019 hasbro. if you have any info please help

Omg so sorry for not responding, I have not seen this comment  :( I don't have a US Starflower but mine definitely has a lighter hair color than her. After some comparing I've concluded that Peach Sorbet is the closest match. I wanted to buy it but the shipping to Poland turned out to be almost 4 times the price so I put it away for now. I only need it for 9-10 plugs so that's why I'm also not too keen on spending this much money for the entire chunk. If you were to buy it, would you mind selling me some? We could arrange something

Hello everyone! I am looking for this backpack from Loungefly! I cannot find it anywhere and I am hoping someone here might have it for sale! I am located in Poland so if someone from Europe at least has it it would be ideal, but I'm considering to buy it from anywhere, as I really REALLY want it. Please let me know if you have one for sale!
Also looking for Peach Sorbet for Shimmer Locks if you have any left overs (I need it for only 9-10 plugs). The delivery price to my country is huge so if anyone has left overs I'll gladly pay for them.

Customs / Color match for Nirvana Spanish Starflower's peach hair streak?
« on: February 23, 2022, 01:45:14 PM »
Because I don't have plans to sell my Spanish Starflower, I want to rehair the orange part of her hair (a little bit of the pink is cut off too but I am considering taking a few stripes off of her tail for that). It has been cut off in half. It would be like 9-10 plugs.

Do you know any close matches to her hair? I believe peaches and cream from dollyhair is too dark and saturated for her. Also her hair is a bit dry (I heard that's common in Spanish ponies) so the ideal thing would be to get hair from a vintage pony.

Does any common pony have a similar hair color to the nirvana spanish rainbow ponies? Or is anyone here maybe selling something that would match?

Here's the pic of what the colors looks like under flash lighting (pic a bit edited to match how it looks irl cuz my phone camera distorts the color a bit):

MLP Nirvana / Help me restore my Nirvana Spanish Starflower
« on: February 16, 2022, 02:54:56 PM »
First, a little backstory: I went thrifting yesterday and I found the Spanish variant of Starflower, or as she's known in Spanish - Estrella (she has no country mark btw). She's not in abysmal shape, but also not great either. Here's the link to a post I made yesterday with more info and pictures of her in the condition she was found in: http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,402807.0.html.

I decided I should wash her a little bit, so I rinsed her in warm water and brushed her with dish soap and regular soap using an old toothbrush (I was careful not to scrub any factory paint off of her). On a Polish Facebook group people recommended I follow Retro Geek Crafts restorations for her clean up and restoration, but as of now the only things I did to her following Retro Geek Crafts is that I removed her tail and separated her head from her body and washed her with soap and then after that removed some marks with acetone. I also washed her mane and tail with water and conditioner.

Now I turn to you. Knowing that she's a Nirvana pony, I want to be particularly careful with her.

:rainbow: Her first problem is that she has yellowed over the years and parts of her look greener than they should. What I saw Retro Geek Crafts do is cover the pony with peroxide, masking off the factory painted areas with masking tape and covering the hair with aluminum foil/masking tape and then putting the pony under UV light for the yellowness to disappear. The staining is best seen on her horn, back and front leg.

:rainbow: Second of all, she has a couple of small marks that acetone couldn't remove, along with quite a few pink not removable marks, mainly on her hears, hooves, eyelids and a little bit on her horn and back (also some stars are that color too, is this a factory thing or is it also made with the marker by someone else?). I saw Retro Geek Crafts remove those with peroxide too.

:rainbow: The third and arguably the biggest problem is the fact that the orange part of her mane along with like 4 strands of the pink hair are cut shorther than the rest of the mane. Should I reroot this part? If so, what kind of hair would be most suitable for the reroot? And should I glue it from the inside when rerooting? If so, what kind of glue should I use to do that? Or do you think I should just leave the hair as is? I am leaning to do a reroot but I want to know what you all think.

:rainbow: Another problem is her symbol. It's very worn off and it needs fixing. How should I go about it? What kind of glue should I use for the glitter to stick to it? Should I seal it in anyway afterward? Also, there are scratches on it. I plan to just leave them as they are (she has some other very minor chips that are not a problem) but there is dirt in it making it noticable. I hope that will disappear once (or if) I treat it with peroxide.

:rainbow: Next problem are the eyes. There is a little bit of her eyelash missing and the paint is a little worn off on her pupils and on her iris. This is a very minor issue tho and Idk if I'll fix that. Retro Geek Crafts uses acrylic paints for it, but I'm not sure if I should seal those touch ups with Mr. Super Clear or something? Or even spray the eyes with it before the touch up AND after? Or just leave it without any sealant?

:rainbow: The last problem is her loose head. It wobbles and I refrain from glueing it down tbh, because I want to have access to her head if I need to. What do I do about it? I have no clue about this one.

Do you guys think I should proceed with the reroot and the peroxide treatment? Do you recommend I use different materials from the ones I want to? I'd love to hear all your advice!

Here are all the photos showing her defects. It was hard to capture the yellowness. Also, for anyone wondering, I separated the cut down hair from the rest. Also also, imgur turned around the images, sorry bout that :dizzy:

Pony Corral / Re: Help identifying my beat up Starflower?
« on: February 16, 2022, 01:17:05 PM »
Thank you all very much! I'll definitely post about this find in the Nirvana section to get some advice if I should reroot her or not. Currently (after washing her) the only thing I'm even considering rerooting are only the hairs that have been cut short, but i'll think about it:)

Pony Corral / Help identifying my beat up Starflower?
« on: February 15, 2022, 02:59:26 PM »
Hello!

A little backstory: I went thrifting today and I visited a charity shop that sells old toys etc. I found my first ever G1 toy there - It's a 1984 Starflower... I think. I'm pretty sure it's not the 2019 remake, but what I'm unsure about is if this could be the Spanish variant (idk if this is helpful but I live in Poland). I tried comparing my figure to the pictures on ToySisters website showcasing the two versions, but I'm really unsure. What makes me believe it could be the Spanish variant is the similarity of the eyeprint to the picture of the Spanish version on ToySisters' page, as well as the fact that the middle star on her symbol appears to be tiny like the one on the picture (the original one's star seems to be bigger, but I don't know if that varies in this release). What doesn't help too is that from what I've gathered, not all ponies are marked to be made from Spain (mine, as you can see, has no mark). There's also no comparison pictures on MyLittleWiki of this exact pony.

I hope you all can help me identify my find:) Also I'd love to see what hair type and hair shade you'd recommend to use for her reroot; I know for sure i'll reroot the first orange stripe and a portion of the pink because it's been cut, but I'm not sure if i should reroot the rest like her hair and mane too, I thought the colors are faded but I'm not sure if they're supposed to be so faded or not, so please tell me if I should do a full reroot! (and where to get/how to make a rerooting tool, I'm very knew to that)

EDIT: The pictures worked before, I don't know what happened. What I also found today was the unusual clip on her tail (not the tube shaped one like most G1's) that says "PRECINTO GARANTIA" (which is a phrase in Spanish meaning "guarantee seal" according to google translate) so that would confirm that she is indeed the Spanish version if it's the original one (I don't know what the usual Spanish tail clip looks like).

Introductions / Hello!!
« on: February 15, 2022, 02:21:27 PM »
Hi, this is Rita !! you can call me by my username too, tho!
I've been a MLP fan since childhood (I am 19, 20 this year). When I was really little I had some G3 toys (Princess Lily Lightly brushable and a couple of smaller figures) and coloring books, but my MLP obsession started with G4. I was the kind of kid that didn't like reboots so at first when I heard they are changing mlp when I was 8 or something I got mad for no reason, but that quickly changed when I watched the second half of Fall Weather Friends in the Polish dub. My first G4 toys were McDonald's Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy (that I didn't know because she wasn't in the second half of that episode so when I played with her she was like RD, lol). Through the show I learned English (I'm from Poland) and the show's very dear to my heart. I have a big collection of blind bag g4 ponies, but when it comes to collecting I was mostly an LPS kind of person (I have about 600 g2 LPS that I am in the very long process of cleaning). My holy grails of the collection are definitely #2463 Chick and #2464 Butterfly, both of which are from a Spring Pets Set and are Australian Exclusives (apparently have been seen in Canada too). What's weird is they are definitely store bought and I've never been to either Australia or Canada or anywhere close, I don't have family there either and none of my family ever even visited those places to begin with, so... No clue how I got a hold of them (my collection is mostly from childhood) but yeah. I also have an original #2291 Shorthair (which I heard has the most fakes out of any LPS) who is in itself pretty rare too (european exclusive singles pet) but not where I live.
When it comes to G1, I've been drawing tons of them even though I have no personal attachement to that generation, but ever since drawing those ponies I've always wanted and original G1 figure. Today, as I was thrifting, I've found a beat up Starflower, from my knowledge it's the 1984 original. What I can't, however, figure out, is if it's a Spanish variant or not, but I'll elaborate about that in a separate post. Still - It's my first g1! She's pretty beat up but I plan to restore her to her former glory.
I hope you all will welcome me with open arms:)
