Pony Corral / Acetone on ponies -yay or nay?
« on: August 08, 2023, 12:04:05 PM »
Hi everyone!

I’m not very knowledgeable about cleaning and restoring ponies, and it has been awhile since I was truly active in the community. I have used acetone on some ponies years ago (2006), but from discussions around that time or perhaps a Little later I understood that you shouldn’t use acetone on old pony plastic.

But I was on a FB group recently and someone recommended to a non-collector to use acetone on her ponies to clean them for selling. I commented and adviced against it (both because it is easy to do something wrong when you are not a collector and because I honestly believed that acetone is not good for pony plastic).

The other collector was really surprised at my comment. She also asked other collectors who seemed surprised over the suggestion that acetone could be bad for plastic. So now I am really confused. I know I am a old-timer, and things can have happened that I am unaware of. It has been a while since I restored ponies- but what is your understanding about acetone? Do you use it? Or don’t you?

Pony Corral / Question about Sundance and different versions
« on: August 04, 2023, 11:20:37 PM »
Hi!
I’m a part of a local FB group for pony collectors in my country (Norway/Scandinavia) and one of the people in this group found a Sundance with symbol only on her display side? Her eyes looks regular blue and her foot is stamped pat.pend. No HK stamp, I think. Anyone know anything about this? Or is it just a factory flaw?

I thought I remembered something about Sundance having some strange releases?

Pony Corral / When your parents want you to move your pony collection…
« on: August 20, 2022, 03:27:23 AM »
What do you do?

I mean, I’m a grown up. OF COURSE if my parents want me to take it with me to my home I will do it. But I have no idea where to put it! After moving to my own (tiny) house I have been regularly taking with me stuff from my childhood and teenage years. I don’t have much storage space left because of this…. A lot of this stuff has been stored in my parents garage, except for my ponies. The main reason being temperature. I live in a place that gets warm in summer and really cold in winter. I’m worried how it will effect the plastic…

In my house I only have two small store rooms. One is combined with my washing machine, and everything that goes with it. The other I’m currently trying to get things out from since within a year I’m going to do some work on my house and this store room will need to go, and will be a part of a hallway. Hopefully I will have a small attic (really small) to store some things. But we are not there yet…. I don’t want to put them in my garage because of the temperature thing, and my garage is also unlocked.

What would you do? I don’t have a big collection- around 45 ponies and many of them are babies. But I do have my childhood Dream Castle, a lot of backcards and all pony accessories to the ponies I do have (and babies have a lot of accessories  ). I’m very conflicted.

So, where do you store your ponies? Have you moved your collection? Was it because you wanted to or because you needed to?

Pony Corral / Ponies as a child vs ponies as an adult
« on: August 09, 2022, 10:11:03 AM »
I was looking through my collection earlier (it’s not on display so I’m shuffling through it once in a while) and it got me thinking. I grew up with G1, born in 1982 and I loved ponies as a kid. But I had some favorites and others I almost never played with. For me, the ultimate pony was my sister’s Gusty and baby Gusty. I’m from Europe, so we didn’t have the BBE babies. I loved everything about the Gusty’s. I loved the pose, colors and symbol. They were the best ponies out there. I got baby Glory as a substitute and she was a good substitute. Unicorns were special to me, and the white ones even more so. The baby unicorn pose was beyond cute and easy to play with. Gusty’s pose were also the best adult pony pose. The first pony I had to have as an adult were baby Ribbon and Gypsy. They had both been on my wishlist since I was a kid. Glory came in as a third pony I had to have.

But as an adult I find myself loving ponies and poses I NEVER played with as a kid. I love my CP Bowtie from childhood even though I never really liked her as a kid. Now she is one of my most favorite ponies. The same goes for Posey and her trotting pose. Now, I like the CP and trotting pose much better than Gusty’s pose. And even though the baby unicorn pose still is a huge favorite, I fell in love with baby Blossom and her pose as an adult. I love that pose, and so many of the baby ponies that have it. I find myself looking at ponies differently and ponies I never liked (probably because they were difficult to play with) I now really love!

Is it the same for anyone else? Have you changed your mind about ponies from childhood to adulthood? Or is it the same? Do you still have your number one pony from childhood as your number one today?

MLP Nirvana / Tell me about Poseys!
« on: August 08, 2022, 02:04:25 PM »
Hi all!

I would love to find out more about Poseys and different variants of her. Posey is one of My favourites, and was considering getting some variants of her- but I know so little. I know there is a baby Posey (that I love!), a collector pose Posey and I might have seen a blue Posey? Not sure if My memory serves me right on that last one.

Are there more?

Pony Corral / G2 collectors
« on: July 25, 2022, 02:56:41 AM »
Hi all g2 collectors!

I have been finding some random ponies lately, but I don’t know much about these. I was too old for ponies (I thought!) when they first were released and when I started collecting we were well into the g3 line. So g2 went under the radar for me. I have figured out that some of them were not released in the US, but are there any of these that are more sought after than others?

When I started collecting g2 were not popular, and I’m wondering if that has changed? Are there more collectors of these now?

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Star Wars Action Figures
« on: July 14, 2022, 02:47:18 AM »
So, I have many guilty pleasures and one of them is the Star Wars franchise. I loved the original trilogy as a kid (Ewoks!), but I never had any toys. I think I was too young for those as I’m born in 1982.

However, with the release of the Mandalorian (who was the main reason I got Disney plus), The Book of Boba Fett and the new Obi- Wan Kenobi series I am truly hooked into this world again. And I found action figures of my most favorite characters! So, anyone else into Star Wars? Or have the action figures? Are they worth getting?

Pony Corral / PC: g1 accessories and G1 NB twins w/accessories
« on: July 10, 2022, 07:18:32 AM »
Hi all!
So, it’s been some time since I checked prices for accessories and I think I need some help

I’ve identified all of it, but I’m a little bit more unsure of prices and since I know there are some higher value stuff in here I thought I might ask here before deciding on what to do with this ;)

I would also be very grateful if anyone have a suggestion on NB twins Fluffy and Fleecy (Bunkie and Speckles) with some of their accessories. They are in great condition, although one of the twins have an eye rub and something that looks like glue on her side (most likely from factory).

The Dollhouse / Disney Animator Dolls
« on: July 08, 2022, 04:06:33 AM »
Hi

Anyone knows anything about these dolls? I know there is a difference to the animator and the toddler dolls, and that some of the older animator dolls are more sought after by collectors. But I have no idea how to spot the difference. I found a Merida in a flea market and she is an animator doll. She is really cute!

Anyone collects them here?

Hi guys!
I don’t know much about greek nirvana, but I have an oppurtunity to bid on a greek Bowtie. I have no idea how high to bid, anyone know how much she is going for these days? Looks okay- but she has washed out symbols. I can still see the bows though

Flea markets have been without ponies for a long time, but this year they seem to be coming back ^.^ I am super happy because “Yay-ponies!”, but a little sad too because the accessories are suggesting there were even more ponies that I missed!

Pony Corral / Vintage G1 plushies
« on: July 05, 2019, 03:38:53 AM »
I don’t know much about these at all, but were super surprised to see a Honeycomb plush for sale on my local BST. I didn’t know there were that many different? Later I also saw Posey. I only seen Firefly, CC and Bowtie before. So this got me thinking- how many plushes are there? And what are their price range?

If you have one (or more!) please share some pics! I’d love to see

MLP Nirvana / Question on Italians and pricing
« on: June 28, 2019, 01:42:24 PM »
I’ve been fortunate enough to get the opportunity to buy some Italians, but I don’t really collect them (I only have one!) and have no idea on prices. Neither has the one selling them as she is not a collector, so then I go to the only place I know have all the pony knowledge in the world - the Arena! The following ponies:

Blossom Italy
Medley Italy
Bowtie Italy
Seashell Italy
Glory Italy (really poor condition)
Sunlight Italy
Skydancer Italy
Posey Italy
Bubbles Italy
Applejack Italy

They are all “normal”, looks like their HK counterparts except for the blue eyes of course. It doesn’t look like they have airbrushed eyes, but it is difficult to see from the photos.

I appreciate all help!

The Dollhouse / Kokeshi dolls
« on: September 23, 2018, 02:22:57 PM »
I found my first kokeshi doll at a flea market today! I don’t really collect them myself, so I was thinking about letting her go. However, I don’t know much about these dolls at all. Anyone here collects them, or know something about them?

I have found out that she is the traditional type, from the district of Togatto. She is signed by the artist, and she also has the year 1985 signed on her. She is really cute!
