Customs / Re: League of Legends - Arcade Hecarim

Thanks everyone!  I actually haven't shipped her out yet because I've been working on the battle-axey thing lately, so she's currently guarding my husband's Lego London Bridge.

Wowsa!  That sexy lipstick pink on the visor and that rainbow hair are amazing! Love, love this girl!

The buyer's reaction when I first showed him the visor was literally "OMG IT LOOKS LIKE YOU MELTED A MELTED JOLLY RANCHER!"  It's awesome in real life, super-glassy, and definitely something I'll be using again in the future.

Customs / League of Legends - Arcade Hecarim
« on: June 29, 2014, 06:25:16 PM »
So, a few months ago a friend who had previously bought one of my League of Legends customs commissioned me to make him a pony based off of Hecarim's Arcade skin.  I set out an array of unicorns of various generations, and we agreed that a g1 was the best choice because it had such a dynamic pose while still giving me enough area to sculpt armor onto it.  Thankfully, the buyer is great about giving me whatever amount of time it takes to do things, because this took some time.

Like I said, g1 pony.  She was one of the Princess ponies, and had an absolutely awful pair of symbols on her.  The symbols came in handy to act as a base for some of the sculpted bits.

I absolutely lovelovelove sculpting things, and this was a blast because there was so much of it to do.  I've never done armor plates before, and I've only ever done one project with goggles that cover the eyes, so this was a chance to both try something new and try to improve a technique.

This was also my first attempt at doing gradient hair.  I was pleased at how it turned out.

I've been *really* slacking with using my proper camera to take photos of my projects, but here's an album of the entire process.  Thanks for looking!

My husband converted the closet in our kitchen into what we simply refer to as The Nook.

We live in a finished basement apartment that has a full kitchen, but no stove (long story), so the kitchen is pretty much my workshop.  The closet is a small one under the stairs that lead up to my mother's half of the house.  Mr. CoinOp simply tacked up and old sheet over the walls, then stacked two giant plastic bins for a stand, and covered those with another sheet.  It's a little cramped in there at times, and a bit loud when the compressor kicks on and scares my near to death, but it works.

also, anyone know where I can get some of those mermaid bubbles? I see them on customs, but my craft stores don't see to have them! I'd be happy to get some through someone too, especially if I could get them at the Fair ;)

Are you talking about those itty-bitty microbeads?  Check out beauty supply stores/Amazon, in the nail art section.

If this isn't what you're looking for, enlighten me, because now I'm intrigued!

Thanks everyone!  I've got another custom that I'll be posting in a couple of hours, so long as I don't go and take a nap or something.

Gorgeous! I love that crisp paintwork (so envious)

Slightly off topic, but that "crispness" seems to extend into everything else I do - last week I had some random guy ask if I used a ruler while putting on my makeup, because my eyebrows were AMAZING.

Love her! Do I see a Poison Ivy in the near future, too? :)

I've actually done a Poison Ivy in the past - two actually, because I somehow lost one at some point after I put her up for sale on Etsy, and ended up needing to re-make her after  someone bought her!

and the collar was worth it!

Thanks!  I really tried to make it more accurate but it just wasn't working, so after about 4 hours or so (and several attempts to throw a palm-sized bit of cloth across the room (pro tip:  it doesn't fly and is largely unsatisfying to throw)) I ended up just cutting the shapes and hot gluing them to some satin ribbon.

I recently took on my last commissioned Harley Quinn project, and finished her last week, so here's some pictures!

Started out with a FS Pinkie, because they're quite plentiful around here.

Then I made her a hat.

This is actually hat v. 2.0, since the first one ended up backwards.

Eventually, I did her collar, which was bloody awful to do, and I'm pretty sure that I wasted about 100 times more fabric than I eventually used for the collar.

And finally, I made her a mask.

Customs / Resin Help
« on: June 25, 2014, 05:58:09 PM »
I know we have a few folks who do things with resin and ponies, but I can't remember who does it.  Is there anyway someone who does it can PM me so I can pick your brain about a project I'm attempting on for the Twisted Fairy Tale swap?

*Note* - I'm not looking to make a full pony or a cast a mold, so if that's your business niche, I'm not planning on selling resin ponies and/or accessories, just looking for technique and product recommendations.  I just need to know if what I want to do will work.

I've been swamped with projects and have just started prepping for this swap this week, and my first attempt failed miserably.  I'm switching themes and if I can pull off what I'm going to try, i'll be super impressed!

Doll eyes are OK, as long as they're not BBE style!

I actually have the Little Goose Girl on my list, along with a bunch of other not as popular stories.  I love the dark, original Grimm stories.

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for doing full body repaints (FBRs) in colored glow paint?  I kind of prefer to use colored glow paint for the project I have in mind, rather than the regular old "yellow green" standard "glow paint" color...

I've never done a FBR with solely GITD paint, however, I've painted over other FBRs with no issues at all.  I've used it as an accent color using a brush, as well as applying it with an airbrush to coat the entire pony.

My big question is this:  I always use matte spray sealer on my custom projects. Would this interfere with the glow in the dark properties of the paint?
[/quote]

Nope.  No interference whatsoever.

Here's my Dr. Mane-hatten -

Not the most amazing shot, because I only had him under the light for a minute or so while I fetched my cell phone to take a picture.  The only adverse effect of using the GITD paint is that it does add a bit of texture to the pony, but with one coat it's not unbearable, it just gives it the tiniest little bit of a "sugary" feel after one coat.
