Pony Corral / Re: Any collectors here that are also horse people?
« on: July 10, 2022, 12:02:03 AM »
I loved horses as a kid and teen. I took lessons and had a couple of horses I could ride over the years. Then I quit at 18. Never took it up again. Now I’m 40 and still miss it! Perhaps I should start again ;)

Go for it! I stopped ruding for almost twenty years and only started again a few months ago. It's surprising how much you remember. I can definitely recommend giving it a try if you can. It was the right decision for me.

Pony Corral / Re: Will you ever be done with MLP collecting?

Interesting question! I pretty much stopped actively collecting years ago. That is to say, I no longer search for ponies (in shops or online), but if I come across a nice G1 at a car boot sale, I'll get it if the price is good.

I've always been a horse person. I took lessons regularly from when I was about 12 and only stopped at age 19 or 20, when university became busier and I just didn't have the time anymore. In that, I guess my story is pretty similar to many others' here, but a few months ago, I actually started taking lessons again! And it's such fun - I don't know why I ever stopped.

Off Topic / Re: How do you celebrate the new year?

I'm a big Christmas fan, but I've never cared much for New Year's Eve. When I was little, it was pretty exciting to stay up till midnight, but now that I can do it all the time (in theory, anyway), I'm mostly fast asleep by 10 p.m. We'll see if I manage to stay up till midnight today.

There aren't any public fireworks displays allowed because of Covid, but last year, some neighbours across the road had fireworks on their roof garden, and that was pretty nice to watch.

At the moment, I always sleep with a hot water bottle. It's just so comfy and warm.

I've always loved Merry Treats, ever since I was little. We didn't have Baby Stockings in Germany, but I got her in a Christmas swap a few years ago, and she's also lovely (and in one of my favourite G1 baby poses). So now I've got two favourites!

Very nice! I particularly like the G1 merchandise.

That's a really nice idea, thanks for sharing the links. Shame they didn't do stuff like that while I was still living in London; I'd have gone to see it.

Off Topic / Re: Energy Drinks, do you use them?

I've never had an energy drink in my life - most of them just look too sweet for me, and I'm one of those people on whom caffeine has no effect, so I can't see the point in me drinking them.

My partner is totally fine with my collections, both ponies (which I don't display anymore these days, but of course he knows what's inside the boxes in the corner of the spare bedroom) and my large collection of childrens' and YA books. To him, it's just "one of these things".

I like eggs. I used to love soft-boiled eggs for breakfast. I don't often have them these days, ditto hard-boiled eggs in sandwiches. I just prefer other food items these days, I suppose. Sometimes, my partner or I will make scrambled or fried eggs for breakfast, but it's a bit tricky, as he likes them a lot less well-done than I do, so we have to compromise.

They're pretty. I like the overall design, especially the hair and the colours, though the hooves look a bit awkward, in a platform-heel sort of way.

Off Topic / Re: What musical instruments do you play?
« on: July 30, 2021, 10:50:35 AM »
I had a few guitar lessons as a child, but then stopped. I don't actually remember why - I guess I just didn't enjoy it.

When I was in my twenties, I took voice lessons for a few years and loved it. Singing comes very naturally to me, and it's a great way to express one's feelings. I can't read music well, but it didn't matter because I have a good ear and can pick up melodies easily.

My voice teacher suggested piano lessons to complement the voice lessons, and I stuck with them for a year, but I never was any good at playing the piano, and I never enjoyed it, either. It didn't help that I never got on with my piano teacher, who was very focussed on theory, while I'm more one for picking up things naturally. Maybe with a different teacher, I'd have kept trying for longer, but I don't think I would ever have enjoyed it as much as my voice lessons.
