Pony Corral / Re: Why is Generation 1 My Little Pony So Hated?
« on: May 20, 2016, 01:41:38 PM »
I don't really understand why anyone would waste the energy hating on something like this, so I can't speak as to why anyone would dislike it. I will say that, as a person who grew up in G1, I can appreciate the hand-drawn animation and better quality product though...no, it wasn't perfect, there are flaws here and there. It was hand crafted, and people aren't perfect, so the cartoon wasn't perfect, and at times even the toyline wasn't. There weren't computers to do all the work of that stuff, I mean, there were, they just weren't as sophisticated yet.

I may be a bit biased admittedly, I don't get the appeal of the G4 look, it just looks so lazy, and cheap, and the product isn't much better...lacking imagination and variety. But it sells so *shrugs* whatever, toymakers know something I don't, apathy sells I guess! *lol*

I don't hate G4 though, I just generally ignore it much as I can manage.

as one person above mentioned, G3 seems to get more dislike...which I don't get either, I pretty much enjoyed that line thoroughly, least until they ended it with the humdrum 'core 7' nonsense :/ but what can you do.

But BTW is it the hair or the body of the ponies that smells?

For the Sweetberry Ponies & the scented G3s, it's the bodies. I assume the same is true for the Sundae Best. I'm not sure about the the Perfume Puffs.

I had a perfume puff that had some faint scent left, it actually seemed strongest at the hair...but that could've been a coincidence.

Eh, I'm not sorry to see them go. Disney's games are crap anyway. Roughly  20 years and they still can't make, or have someone else make a game that isn't full of clunky controls, insultingly easy gameplay, bad cameras or boring mediocrity.

*chuckles* This instantly took me back to the NES disney games for some reason...gaw those were frustrating, genesis ones weren't much better!

...why are the color combinations for these so darn desirable?

Stop making me want these, Hasbro! *lol*

I think two of them, the ones with molded hair (and a burly physique :p) are max steel dolls...I only know this as I had a brief time I was picking them up here and there right after they stopped making them.

...you honestly can't do anything wrong with these, they all turn out stunningly. Admittedly I'm not a sailor moon fan but I totally dig this.

Oh she is absolutely lovely, great job on her! I hope the OP can get her looking as nice as she likes, too! The more I see her the more I find myself less bothered by the unpredictable color changing of some of them, she's just so darn pretty.

Anywho...yea, the other sure fire way to know she's not a he is there were no  boys in that line! My only grievance with it...a G3 boy would've been AWESOME.

This may be a shot in the dark, but is it a SS paradise?

Thanks to this post, my husband caught me huffing my ponies....akward

Me and my niece used to 'get high' on the G3 scented ponies, especially the birthday cake one, she really loved those.

Wow, even the lion?

I saw a Care Bears episode where Good Luck Bear had a crush on a female character, a panda bear cousin.  But they used a female VA for Good Luck Bear.  Not a "boyish" sounding female VA (like G4 Spike) either, just a straight out "girl voice."  Unintentionally progressive for its time.

yea-huh, cooky right? it was one of those 'book on tape' sets, and was a simple thing that introduced all the cousins...as girls. *lol*

I know I've seen the episode you're talking about but I can't for the life of me remember what goodluck bear sounded like, but they did do that a lot on those cartoons :p

But anyways, for me Starcatcher is definitely a girl...I mean, no fuzzy hooves? I have a hard time considering any pony a boy without those fuzzy hooves. I realize there's ones they've done without them that're boys but I'm just too set in my ways.

This topic reminds me of the time where I found a care bear cousins book where they were ALL written as girls...very odd.

I always liked the big star-catcher too, even in stores her body would be doing all sorts of wacky color changes, usually pink in splotches all over the place. I've yet to get one, honestly I was always a bit put off by the malfunctioning color changes, it just looked...off, especially when she's supposed to be all white. I'd probably be the opposite in wanting to find a way to remove whatever wacky thing she has on her that makes her do that. It would be a lot of fun though if that color changing feature wasn't all wonky.

Heya! Is the NSS shady and raspberry jam still available? Also did you know what you'd be seeking price wise for the castle/parts? I know shipping would be killer but I'm kind of interested in that, too :)

I've been collecting off and on for...well, just about as long as ponies have been around, heh. I've had a few good finds here and there, but probably my best finds were a Mimic at an antique field show a few years back, she was $5. This year I found a TE Masquerade MOC for $5 as well, but that's about it! Frankly at this point in collecting I'm happy to find any vintage ones in the wild...

That's very helpful, thanks! I love how SSC dolls / minis smell! Their scents are so dreamy and match pretty well. :D I guess scented ponies are a no go for me, unless they don't smell anymore.. XD. Either that, or I just get brave one day and smell a still smelling one.

Does anyone know if the scented ponies' boxes say their scents are "non toxic"? If they are that "memorable" maybe it's not considered "natural".. ?

Only one I have that has any scent left is Carmel crunch, and I'm not entirely sure if it's the original scent or just a weird plastic combination (I've had regular plastic things that've smelled similar...iunno)

The ponies cards don't mention anything about being toxic or not (though I might have overlooked it, anybody feel free to correct me here!)the boxes for SSC DO say they're scented, and that they're 'non-toxic'...I'd certainly hope not as it's hard to resist sniffing those every so often.

oh, unfortunately I've never had the strawberry scented pony so, didn't think of her, so I imagine she'd be similar! :silly:

I couldn't tell ya if you missed anyone...That's one set of ponies that I'm not sure of their names!  ^.^
Would you say they smelled like the vintage Strawberry Shortcake dolls in terms in strength and smell? (if you are familiar with SSC, I'm opening this question up to others to share their thoughts!)

Can't believe I missed this initially *chuckles* I actually collect SSC dolls, too...and their smells are quite different, as well the strength is MUCH MORE powerful. I mean, buy a couple of the mini's, you'll see what I mean, 30 years later they STILL smell just as strong. Even ones that've been heavily played with, it's insane. Kenner actually 'baked' the scent into the plastic, or mixed it in with it rather, which is why their dolls and miniatures retain so much of their smell now. I'm not sure why they're so different but I've not had any SSC dolls that remind me of the vintage pony scents.
