Title: Did you miss SDCC Shera?
Post by: Galactica on September 09, 2016, 02:14:38 PM
She is pretty darned epic- with an amazing Castle-looking box- and two extra outfits and lots of extra hands and accessories.

She was preselling for quite the premium before SDCC!   For a little while after SDCC, MattyCollector was selling them (just a limited number per day)

Well if you missed out- they are back!

I'm happy because now I don't have to feel guilty about taking mine out of her box.... (although I still can't bear to toss the box, it really is just TOO amazing)

Yes, she is amazing!! I hope they will produce more characters in this style. It would be awesome!

I hope so too- so much!  But... it doesn't look good that they didn't sell out very fast.

I'm thinking that the 11" size must not have appealed to the action figure collectors (who are the primary market for these dolls) and I'm thinking most fashion doll collectors just didn't know about them or maybe found them to close to action figures-

I've never seen He-Man and know nothing about She-Ra but wow, this set is so tempting! The box is almost gorgeous enough to justify a purchase!

I grew up on these cartoons- I remember Heman was on every day but Shera like once a week, and I SO looked forward to it. Shera was awesome- and of course Swiftwind- who doesn't want their own flying pegasus?

The box for this doll is indeed AMAZING. The exterior box is amazing- with gorgeous graphics on all sides- AND the interior box- that looks like Castle Greyskull.  But it is ridiculously HUGE.

It really is too big to put up anywhere- I've thought about just keeping the castle looking part for display- but I just can't bear to toss the exterior box- it looks like a ginormous comic book and the artwork is beautiful.

Interior box- opens like a book-  the Castle turrents easily pull back to reveal her extra outfits underneath.

One side of the exterior box- the other side is just as fantastic...

One of the things that I love is that the outfits fit fashion dolls like Momoko and Poppy :D

I think the $75 price tag is the only thing that might cause someone to balk.

Yeah that's probably part of it. Action figure collectors not used to paying so much, and fashion doll collectors aren't interested in a doll that looks like an action figure.

I actually think she is a reasonably good price- about the same as a mid-level collector Barbie and she has enough accessories and posing to make her worthwhile. Most 11" fashion dolls are $130 - $145  (Azone, Integrity)

There's also the vintage "girls toys" collectors that would find her to be "too expensive", the ones who also said the same thing about Integrity Jem and search thrift stores for cheap stuff.

I got her for $45 free ship which was quite a deal considering how big the box is!

It is sad but they lost me with the She-Ra figures when they made solid, non-brushable hair and those visible joints which make them look very masculine. They could have made invisible joints like the LLL dolls had, and brushable hair... oh well. Has made me save much space, the 80s series already takes up  quite a bit.  :lookround:

For sure they should have used brushable hair with the little figures- luckily the SDCC doll does have brushable hair!

Plus the SDCC doll is 11" which means the outfits fit on other dolls too which is a nice option :D
