Rerooting doll hair help
« on: January 07, 2020, 06:42:54 AM »
So idk if this is meant to be in customs or arts n craft, so I hope here's okay.

What am I doing wrong? I'm trying to reroot both G4.5 and a G2 pony but it's not working?

My difficulties are stemming on the getting the hair into/onto the needle and into the head. I ordered hair needles from RetrodollsUk with my hair, and at first I tried putting a bit of hair through the eye (?) of the needle; didn't work. Wet it, taped it, everything besides summoning the dark lord and no improvements.

Looked up how to do it and the needle I got was super different from the youtuber's, so I recall a tip from somewhere to cut down the middle of the eye so I did that; easier to put the hair in the thingy but only by a few strands and wouldn't stay in place.

Am I just screwing up somehow? Is this witchcraft? Or mathematics beyond my comprehension?

It sounds to me like you have a regular needle with an eye :) The re-rooting tools have a needle where the eye is cut in half, so you can scoop up the hair :)

I make my own re-root needles.I use a darning needle since they have a longer "eye" and trim the end off with my wire clippers :)

Yes what PKW said!

I haven't rehaired any G2s but they appear to have harder bodies than other generations? So it may be easier to practice with a softer pony (G4.5 should work just fine though).

When you scoop up the hair, make sure to keep it tight so it doesn't escape before you place the needle against the pony's head! Good luck :)

Agreeing with what's been said about the needles. I make my own tools, too, just snip the eye off of a needle :)

as for getting the hair into the plugs without breaking the needle (esp for g2s), I like putting a thumbtack in to make the hole a tad bigger. Then just pull it out and put the tool with hair in. It'll close right back up around the hair again! Nice little reroot hack I've been using for years ^_^

Thank you everyone, I tried giving my G2 her tail but 4 hours with plastic lackies, zip ties and everything in the kitchen sink to get it in result in nothing. I wasted hair, my fingers hurt from pushing and everything. What I am doing wrong?

Did you take her head off to rehair? When I’m putting in a new tail I actually pull it up through the neck hole.

It’s kind of hard to explain but I basically take a longgg piece of string and drape the tail at the halfway point over the string. I then pull the string through the neck hold until the tail is pretty far in. Then you just want to tie the string around the tail a few times to hold it in place.

I used Aikairn’s tutorial on her website when I was trying to learn to rehair ponies, so she has a photo guide on her website that shows it! :) Hope that helps! Good luck!

I'll try that when I attempt again! Cheers everyone!
