Title: Underrated Nickelodeon shows.
Post by: CastletonSnob on October 07, 2016, 06:58:36 PM
We all know about the great old Nick shows, like Rocko, Hey Arnold, Double Dare, and Legends of the Hidden Temple. But, what are some great shows that don't seem to get mentioned?

I liked Double Dare. And "You can't say that on television" too, at least back in the day.

Mysterious Cities of Gold  is an overlooked 80s cartoon that aired on Nick. It was an anime dub about a group of explorers looking for the Cities of Gold in South America.  It had a really great theme song! Here it is:

(Be patient for about 45 seconds. There's an introductory narration, so it takes a while to get going.)

Here's the closing theme; it's a little different:

One that many people - at least down my neck of the woods - seem to have forgotten is The Adventures of Pete and Pete; I still buzz off of that show. I watched it all the time as a kid and loved it, but a lot of the more surreal/witty humour whizzed right over my head at the time.
I can't really remember many others though; there were loads of shows that I loved but a lot of them were things that had been recorded on VHS tapes.

Edit: Oh wait, brainwave! Kenan and Kel and Clarissa Explains It All were awesome as well!

I liked

Wild and Crazy Kids

Noozles

Lil Bits

The Adventures of Little Koala

Today's Special (I have a very vague memory of this show.)

Franklin

GUTS although my favorite part was the climb up the mountain.

David the Gnome is a great show and I recently watched the whole series with my mom. The episodes still hold up well even when viewing them as an adult.

I also enjoy Hey Dude as an adult as well.

As Told by Ginger didn't get near the love it deserves.

Are You Afraid of the Dark is another underrated gem. It scared the crap out of me when I was a kid.

I kinda liked Danny Phantom......but maybe that was a popular one?

I forgot one.  The Adventures of the Little Prince. I always called it The Little Prince from Outer Space.

OMG THIS. It was on tv here around '02/'03, but the last couple of years I've been watching the whole series on YouTube too, more than once. The detail and the stories are amazing. Okay, some things are lame, like this ridiculous awe they have for the popular girls. But other than that it's a very real show that tackles very real issues.

EDIT: Also, Ginger has ponies in her room. Not entirely unimportant. :P

I loved As Told By Ginger and Rocket Power! No one ever seems to remember those. I wish they'd go on Netflix or that the series would be released on DVD maybe.

I was absolutely in love with As Told By Ginger!!! She was like the only redhead who wasn't ~eeeevil~ (cause red= bad I guess?) and was on TV regularly when I was a kid. I really wish Nickelodeon was friendlier with Netflix. There's so many shows all the Netflix binge watchers would eat up in a heartbeat because they're from our childhood. "Retro" 90s merch and stuff like that is super popular. Combine the two and I think it could go really well!

But of course they won't >.<

Agreed! It's a real shame. And I can't believe I totally forgot to mention Wild Thornberries yesterday! I looooove the Wild Thornberries! This series is on DVD at Walmart, though, so I plan to get it when I have the money to spare.  ^.^

Once upon a time in a school in outer space,
There was a class of misfit kids from all around the place.
They snuck aboard a mystery ship,
Which soon slipped through a spacial rip,
And now they're stuck on a long strange trip!

Space Cases was the most awesome sci fi show for kids ever. XD I miss it terribly, and it's a shame it never caught on and became a classic.

Today's Special aired on Nick? We got it on our PBS affiliates. I loved that one! So quirky and cute!

Clarissa Explains It All was my favorite.  I would go around my house and pretend to talk to a camera like she did in the show.  I also dressed like her.

My favorites were always Clarissa Explains it All, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Guts, Double Dare, and As Told By Ginger.

Oh and Nick News with Linda Ellerbee!

Oh oh! All That! Best show ever. I watch SNL every Saturday and I love that Kenan Thompson grew up to do the same stuff he did as a kid. XD

Dude.  You guys.  I heard there is going to be a "Legends of the Hidden Temple" movie later this month on Nick!  O.o  It's based on the show, of course, and has the same Olmec voice and host in it!

Two words: Ghost Writer! (At least, I think that was a Nickelodeon show?) I've been meaning to go back and watch some of those old shows again -- a lot of them are on Amazon Prime. :)

Ghost Writer was on PBS in the states... (I LOVED that show, we watched it at school. I had an awesome 4th grade teacher.)
AND to make me even more of a NERD.
Ghost Writer was re-vamped as the "New Adventures of Ghost Writer" and featured Kristian Ayre, Radu of Nick's Space Cases.

I'm quite surprised that there are group of us on this forum that enjoyed Space Cases. I still think they're lost in Space. And it's a shame because they could do some justice for all of us closet fans and make a short made for tv movie of them getting home... but anywhoo, I need to get off my tangent.

Nuzzles lol. I think that one was short lived on Nick.
