This is true Taffeta.. I remember the first greek baby to show up was greek baby peachy.. I won the ebay auction and she was seriously called a fakie because she had no hoof markings.. That was the time of the Trading Post.. That was Pre-MLParena. The same thing with the africans. People originally thought they were knock offs but they became accepted as more started to emerge.. Plus at that time Katrina had a SA pony backcard that proved SA ponies were legit..

Yeah, with Minty it was around 98 or 99. Pre Arena, Pre Nirvana. The only real variants accepted were Italy, France, India..and some OOAK Italians were rejected based on their lack of provenance. I'd seen Helen's Brazilian and Argentinian babies, and her Peruvian Baby CC without knowing what that one was, but most of the stuff we see now wasn't there. There wasn't any online discussion on anything South American, let alone African.

I'm not at all surprised you had that experience with Baby Peachy. I remember Greek ponies first coming onto the scene and the mad explosion of insanity when people realised there was a Baby Minty...and she was real...xD But it's interesting how Katrina saw her ponies as fakes even though she had the card and it was licensed. It shows how the mindsets have changed.

For the better, definitely ;) The irony being that her "fakie" Applejack and Seashell would now be worth many times what a regular one was worth. But my yellow "fake" Minty was from someone who felt the same. She  didn't want yellow Minty, because she'd always wanted a "proper" Minty and the colours didn't match up.

(Though here in the UK Minty was drawn purple in the factfile, so go figure)

@PKW  - the earliest SA collector I remember was Joss, back in the end of the 1990s early 2000 - could it have been her?

I think Joss was in South America, specially Brazil. I remember her signature in the old ponypeople email group was something along the lines of "Joss... the only pony collector in South America".

At that point we were somewhat aware of the Brazil ponies but Argentina and other South American ponies had yet to be fully discovered.

I do have the pictures of the South African backcard saved so I had a peek to see if there were any clues, but the only ones it showed were Cotton Candy, Blossom, Bowtie, Applejack, Seashell and Bubbles. Incidentally, those six are all in their normal colour schemes, s wonder how the others looked on the card!

As you said LadyG they all look normal in the pictures.

Do you remember the Baby Surprise and Baby Cotton Candy that here on a Prima Toys card?

There is a picture on Chrissytrees website (you need to scroll down)

Really nice project, so cool to see them! I never knew that HT existed.  So beautiful!  The symbols are so different and lovely.  Can't explain why the thing with the symbols is so cool.  Also I think it's made me like the Moonstone pose more.  Now I want to get Moonstone and Sunbeam out!

I just received my SA Bubbles in the mail from one of you. I still can't stop staring at her! It was 100% worth the price tag. Hopefully when I go abroad to work in Public Heath in Africa I will stumble across some. Wouldn't that be the dream!
