Hi! Call me ... well, call me whatever you like. I won't be giving my real name or other information, but I hope that doesn't get in the way.
I'm a 37 year old male, living in the Pacific northwest, in the state of Pony Bliss. I have ponies on my desk at work and I don't care who sees them. But it wasn't always this way.
I grew up in a shotgun-totin' redneck suburb of a deeply conservative city in an even more conservative state. Obviously, this wasn't a place where it would have been acceptable for me to like pretty ponies, and certainly on the surface I hated them. In fact, as a child, I did hate them, or at least I thought I did. With the hate came a kind of fascination, though, with the colorful ponies and Hello Kitty pencil cases I saw the girls around me carry. Love them or hate them, they occupied more than their fair share of my mental space.
I spent the late eighties and nineties coming to grips with my love for the tertiary sexual characteristics--ribbons and bows and dresses and, yes, ponies. Over the years, as I became more open with myself, I ventured into ponyspace one or two times, but no matter how much I wanted to love them, I never got sucked in. In recent years I bought a Glitter Pony (Kimono) and Crystal Slipper Princess Desert Rose (I love shoes SO MUCH, I think I have a problem), and they held places of honor in my room decor, but I never really felt a connection to them other than that they were pretty. I tried watching the cartoons (animation being another passion of mine) but they were just so insipid! They were so pink-sparkly-glittery-dumb that they were painful to watch, and this is from someone who adores and idolizes pink-sparkly-glittery.
And then a wonderful lady named Lauren came along and made everything all better.
Since I discovered Friendship is Magic in November 2010, I've played with ponies all over the internet. There are two reasons I'm coming here now: I want to see how G4 people interact with longtime fans, and also ... the customs! I had Aikaran's famous Borg Pony as an IM icon for years (I could get away with it!), and I'm still fascinated with the amazing sculptures fans create. I actually own this one (http://electricmayhem8416.deviantart.com/art/Filly-Twilight-Sparkle-Sculpt-280231966) now, and I couldn't be happier with her.
So that's me. Don't know how active I'll be; I only say things if I really have things to say. But if nothing else, I'll be watching!
