What is this
« on: March 13, 2013, 02:49:43 PM »
I'm sure this has been covered SO many times!

I tried my best to photograph this crap, I thought I knew pindot but is this what it is? I tried acetone on it no joy, around her ears is well it looks like caked in dirt, but it isn't shifting :( I'm so upset, she was a grail and her hair is so pink it blinds and she smells like childhood pony :(

Won't warm water and a gentle cleaning take care of that mold on her bum/saddle? There is plenty of hope left!
The stuff on the head look different, though, is it the same stuff and the picture is just dark?
I'll put something here some time

I've been able to remove mold with hot water, soap and my nails. Needs some serious scraping, but usually you can clean it.  :)

It was hard to photo the stuff on her head, its not dotted like the saddle its just a big patch of brown dirt and its all over her also :(

Although sounds like something I could maybe take a nailbrush to, I was so upset when the postman brought her yesterday..it looks like she spent too many years in an attic!

Could be severe pindot, or some other variant of ground in dirt?  It doesn't really look like mold to me... you'd probably be able to smell it, especially while you got her wet for cleaning.  Oxyclean might be able to take care of that, you could always test it just on her legs since they're white and have no paint, to see if the stubborn stuff will budge.  I assume you've already tried Dawn or some other type of basic soap?

Acetone is good for paint transfer, stray marks and greasy stuff, but doesn't generally work all that well on dirt.

It's hard to tell, but it looks like just old mold to me. Weird that acetone didn't take it off, but I'd just try an old toothbrush and soap or toothpaste.

That looks exactly like what is on one of the ponies i just got. I have a minty pony except for whatever is on her. It looks like dirt deep in her pores lol. Soap and water didn't do anything for it : ( I am going to quarantine her just in case but i will be stalking this thread. Good luck : )

If it's dirt in the pores, you can try cleaning it with a ultrasonic cleaner for glasses. It can basically be used to clean anything that is waterproof and fits in :) I have one myself and it has never failed me ;) I just use water with a bit of liquid hand soap, but you can experiment with different amounts and types of soaps or cleaning solutions.

Wow, that pink hair!

As long has you've treated it with acetone, hopefully the mold won't spread any more. Because of the hair I'd be cautious about trying to fade it, but from what it looks like, she's beautiful even with the blemishes!

It looks like what we all call "pin dolt mould" - although thats not actually mold its just severely in grained dirt. Or at least thats what appears to be on her saddle.

Have you tried the in grained dirt tutorial as yet? http://mlparena.com/mlp/index.php/topic,292336.msg136755.html#msg136755

The marks on her face could be this grouped but to be honest it looks more like a stain of some kind to me - whether that be as a result of damage in the plastic or something external I am not sure. I would try the scrubbing method on that and if you have no luck try sun fading.

I think I had something like this on all my FF Collector pose ponies... I just gave them all a really gentle bath in warm water with a mixture of Fairy Liquid (Dawn Dish Soap in US) and very diluted bleach to kill it off.  It worked a treat! Good luck!  :)
