Did "My Little Pony" and "My Little Pony and Friends" end at the same time?  I know the numbering is different because "MLP & Friends" started so much later . . .

Also, how many issues were there in each run?

No, there is an overlap of course, but MLP & Friends ran longer and ran past the end of the first comic. I believe it is only by 6 months however.

I believe the first comic stopped around 222/223/224 mark for the first ones [I should point out that I have never seen 223/224 so the only one I can day for certain is 222]. Likewise for MLP & Friends I believe it is 49 but I have never seen higher than 46.

Yes that's the advert I have seen to confirm 223 [thank goodness someone knew where it was linked - awesome moonflower] and the information I heard for 224 but I honestly have never seen either of them - would love to know if someone has images or if anyone is lucky enough to own them. 

I am pretty certain "& Friends" doesnt go higher than 51 - honestly I have only seen up to 49, again I wonder if someone is lucky enough to own these higher numbers.

I bought a complete collection of G1 MLP comics & divided it with a good friend. There are definitely issues up to 224. I've had both 223 & 224 in my hands, but now my friend owns them. I feel silly for not taking pictures when I had them, but I didn't realize that they were so rare at the time.

MLP & Friends... I'm not sure how high those issues go. The highest number I own is 43 (c.1993).

Also, did "My Little Pony" end up transitioning to the MLP Tales characters, or was that only "My Little Pony and Friends"?

I believe MLP & Friends did have the Tales characters at the end. I have one late number issue... I'll dig it out when I get home.

Yes the MLP comic transitions into stores for Tales characters at the same time the & Friends comic does.

The MLP comic finished up in 1993 and 1994 for & Friends.

No Molly and Danny that I can remember - but thats not surprising as the Comics really did only tend to focus on ponies which could actually be purchased in the UK and Molly was never sold here.

They are mentioned in MLP and Friends issue number 30. It has the Witches, Smooze and Ahgg on the front cover. But sadly they gave Ahgg TWO eyes in the story D= And sadly it's a very short story. They could have done so much more with it X D

For a long while I thought the MLP and Friends were the ones that started with Tales, until I actually looked at it today. Just wish it said the date it was going to start like the MLP comic did when it said it was going to start with the Tales ponies.

Yeah in #30 it shows Molly and Danny and mentions that they are Megan's "ugly sister and brother" and it ends up in a TWIST!  If you want to see it, I think I have pictures of it somewhere, in a few weeks I might be able to scan the whole story as well.

And one thing to change, 223 is the last officially known MLP issue, not sure about the #224 that's been said since I haven't seen a picture of it. I can take a picture of #223 saying "ISSUE 223 is the last issue of MY LITTLE PONY, BUT all your Pony friends can be found in MY LITTLE PONY AND FRIENDS which will be on sale EVERY MONTH from Issue 43"

These comics are so addictive ^^" (and so heavy when they are all together O.O)

Wow, that is really cool that you have some too!  Ha ha, we must have bought different lots off the same person!   Do you have any that have little notes written on the back cover where the craft projects are, like "Very good, Twilight".  Those always crack me up.

Not sure if there are notes like that...I'll have to check! I might have thought that too about the name if I didn't have other different names on some of my other comics = D

If I can't set up this scanner without wanting to throw it out the window, then I'll just take kind of crappy pictures of #30. I thought I had just the pictures of Danny and Molly but I can't find them D= All I can find is the Megan and Wind Whistler panel from the story:
