G4 Animal friends

I don't like G4, but I love some of the animal friends, so I want all of the butterflies and I have a rabbit and a hamster/mouse :-)

They are pretty cute, though I still don't quite get why they are totting around little animals.

When I got DD AJ when they first came out, I didn't get why she had a dog  (now it makes sense). But she just got RD with the duck and I'm thinking, "shouldn't she have a turtle?". The other pony she has came with a hamster.

Did they release the ponies with their actual pets or is it all random?

RD actually comes with a turtle like Tank in her "riding along set"...and she was released as a toy that way ages before the episode where she gets a pet.

I like the concept of the pets - it reminds me of vintage SSC. 

My favorites are the swans and parrot.  Never liked Twilight's random bird in the first release though.

They are super cute. I love the peacock the most I think.

That page is great for checking the animals, I was gonna post if you hadn't! The peacock IS super cute... and I think I need to find some of the butterflies! The pets remind me of Li'l Litters so they are hard for me to resist!

I was watching one of the G1 movies recently (not sure which it was - maybe pony puppy) and there were a ton of forest friends- I wonder if that is where Hasbro decided the G4 needs pet friends?

It is! It kinda makes me want to get some of the playsets I don't have to get the animals. The chicken, white duck, brown bunnies and white cat especially <3

Is anyone a completionist and interested in the ones from Rarity's Bonus Carousel (the French release)? Those are pretty htf, right?

I was just in the process of updating that page with more animals.  There are tons of animal color variations with sets like the Nursery Tree and Cheerilee Picnic so I have found a lot more.  Also, exclusive sets like the new Around Town train playset has 4 pets too and also appears to have color variations.

I could really use close up/loose pics of some of the pets on that page if anyone wants to help me out

I think only 2 of them are actual colour variations but they are pretty impossible to find unfortunately...

I think only 2 of them are actual colour variations but they are pretty impossible to find unfortunately...

Haha only one, really. xD You get a purple squirrel which is new, and then just a brown dog (like Applejack's). Plus a yellow mouse, but that comes with the regular release too.

Reason I asked is because I have them! I imported that bonus carousel from Amazon France earlier this year because I really wanted the orange carriage (I collect them) xD

Fortunately I think someone is interested in buying my extra animals, so they should be sold soon!

I've always considered Twilight's Bird/Owl? to be her pet from the show Owlowiscious, even though it looks nothing like her and is the wrong color.
