Ok, to recap I work at a book warehouse that distributes the MLP:FIM books. I work in the returns center so I normally don't see new books until at least a few weeks after they come out.
Well, today I was leaving the break room after lunch to head back to my work area. Just outside the break room, there it was. One random copy of Under the Sparkling Sea laying on an electric cart. :shocked: Since it was the end of lunch I literally only had seconds to thumb through it before the bell rang. But from what I did see it looks REALLY good! I'm not to fond of how they drew the mane six.... But the seaponies (and yes they are still called seaponies!) are beautiful! They don't look anything like the G1 seaponies. The G4 seaponies are much more... frilly. I don't know how else to describe it. Of the ones I saw my favorite was the one that looks like a lion. Then I saw it. A picture that made my heart stop for a second and I nearly passed out. There's a narwhal in the story!!!!! :ack: His name is Nar Wally.
Anybody that really knows me knows that my most favorite animal is the narwhal. But narwhal stuff is really, REALLY, REALLY RARE! Most children's books about whales don't even mention them. Heck, at work we have a huge coffee table size book on the Arctic that doesn't mention narwhals once! So a narwhal being in a popular book like MLP is HUGE!!!!! I can't begin to tell you how badly I *NEED* a toy of Nar Wally. :freak: Maybe now people will stop asking me, "What's a narwhal?"
I've already placed my order for the book. But it will be 1 1/2 - 2 weeks before I get it. However, my employee discount *cough75%cough* makes it worth the wait. So if anybody else gets the book tomorrow feel free to post more info/reviews/pictures here.

The preview art I've seen for this book is gorgeous. I totally plan on getting a copy, even though I rarely buy pony books!

That soon? I'll have to make a stop by Wal-Mart in the morning. I know the dude who delivers books tends to come in the middle of the night. I used to work there so I kinda know him.

I don't know the back story of this book, but that cover art looks unusually good for licensed kids book. That'd be sweet if it was illustrated like that inside too.

Oh, it is. If you google the book you should find a few pages that were leaked a while back. Does anybody have a link? I didn't bookmark it.

The artwork for this book, compared to the boring vectors we often suffer, looks absolutely amazing! I cant wait to see all the pages and all the art in person.

Mine arrived today. I got it off ebay, does anyone want me to take pics of the pages and show you? the pics are AMAZING im so in love with the book, I adore the little sea creatures, I think the pics are so beautifully drawn, kinda have a pencil look to them, its very well done. I love it. Well worth the money!!!

I got this today and the artwork is AMAZING. It has so much depth and there is so much detail on each page! Absolutely beautiful.

Picked it up at Barnes and Noble. Quite the price tag on it, but the artwork is absolutely stunning! Plus... G4 seaponies! Giving me a little hope for new seapony toys. X3

Wow thanks so much for posting this Sailorstitch. I think the artwork is stunning and pretty unique. I just ordered my copy :D I am so happy to see seaponies, I really hope they start incorporating them into the show and hopefully (crosses fingers) into reproduction.

Which papercraft book would that be please? I believe I saw on in Micheals but it was a staggering 34 dollars and not many pages but that might've been an old G3 one.

I do really like it...but that being said I can see why it is not going to appeal to everyone. In fact I thought there would be more negatively over it because it is so different from the FiM we are used to. But perhaps the art work has won some people over?

I lOve love love this book! the art is beautiful, the creature designs are exquisite! and the story is wonderful.
King Leo is cool! and the other mammal x fish characters!
Highly recommend.

I have this as well! It arrived couple of weeks ago! So glad to see these coming in the UK :biggrin: I was very impressed by the artwork on Under the Sparkling Sea. Also I enjoyed the story behind Twilight and the Crystal Heart spell. I look forward to getting more stories in this series of books.
