Title: Very Strange incident over email? Has anyone else been contacted?
Post by: TexasGal on November 19, 2013, 12:01:52 PM
So, I had posted that I was looking for g1 ponies needing love, and, silly though it might sound, i would prefer to be contacted on the arena, especially concerning ponies.  If I have added someone on FB, or given them my phone number, then that is fine, of course.  But, this was a strange incidence.

I was sent an email by a Lizzie T., email address of [email protected].  She was rather confusing, was nice at first though, but confusing.  She sent multiple emails and gave multiple prices on ponies.  I told her I would get back to her after I got home from work, and could get through all the emails.  I did as soon as I could, which was about six thirty.  I had recieved multiple messages from her by that point, stating how she was upset that i hadn't messaged her yet.  I told her I had to eat dinner first, then I would give her a definite list, and would love to have prices on the ponies I was interested in.  I emailed her again as quickly as I could, then had someone come over unexpectedly, which made me unable to answer til about 8:30.

She then had sent me a message saying how upset she was that I hadn't emailed her back with more of my information, or making a definite decision on the ponies, which I still was having trouble getting prices on.  I wasn't even sure I wanted any yet until I could get straight answers, which was getting harder and harder to do.  I then told her that I didn't want to be badgered like that, and if she was going to do that, I would not be purchasing anything from her.  I was only interested in one pony, and I wanted to know the price, but she never would tell me the price of it.  She simply wrote me off, politely, of course, saying she was more used to ebay and etsy (but who answers ebay and etsy within the first five minutes of getting messages from them?) not everyone can get to computers that quickly....

Anyway, I just wanted to warn everyone that this Lizzie T/ snowwhite1disney person is....interesting.  She claimed there were multiple people interested in her ponies, and I just want y'all to be cautious...she wouldn't give me her arena name, though she claims she was a new member here.

I am sorry. I just wanted to ask for some e mails because that's how I knew how. I don't know how to post with pictures here yet because they are on my cell phone.

It's ok, I just felt very pressured, and that you were angry with me when it took me an hour to get back to you.  I told you I would get back to you last night, and I did, but you were honestly kinda rude to me, and it hurt my feelings.  I told you yesterday in the earyl afternoon/later morning, that I would contact you once I got home from work, which was not until six thirty. I emailed you as soon as I could, telling you I had to get some dinner, then I would go over the nearly thirty emails of pictures you sent me, and get you a list, which I did.  I emailed you again around 8 pm, and asked for prices, then took a little bit of time away from the computer, because I had an unexpected guest come over to my apartment.  I'm very sorry for that delay, but I got back to you as soon as I possibly could.  In the interim, though, you were rude, claiming I had asked for pictures, and then not been interested in them.  That was far from the truth.  You were the one to contact me in the first place though, so being patient with someone who did NOT solicit you in the first place for ponies is a good idea.  =]

I told you I didn't want to be badgered, as I felt that you were being rude and pushy with the sale, and I got several different numbers for a pony, in several different combinations, then when I asked about the single pony and the price for just it, you did not give it to me.  I'm not upset, I just felt that the whole incident was rather sketchy and it made me very uncomfortable.  I am sure you had the best of intentions in contacting me, but I do not think I will be purchasing from you.  Thank you though.

That is strange... I myself would be wary of trading/selling/buying from anyone who wasn't willing to give me their arena name. That just seems shady. New members need to start somewhere, as we all did, with selling/buying/trading, but to be pushy like that so quickly after sending a message seems odd. I know some members here only get on once or twice a day, if that, so anytime you send a message to someone you run the risk of them not seeing it for a day or two, and people need to be understanding that everyone has a life outside of the arena. I've personally never had any problems with members here, but I would proceed with caution if you do decide to buy. New members should also understand where the majority of us are coming from when we are hesitant in buying from someone new. It seems the pony community gets scammed out of ponies and money quite often, so we're understandably cautious.

Hopefully you get everything sorted out! :)

Tbh, that's why I eventually took my email off my profile. It sorta weirds me out when someone emails me from the Arena without telling me who they are.

This person contacted me as well, TexasGal but I'm really hesitant about buying ponies from people I don't know, so I usually stick to buying from only a few people, unless I see something I want. Being pushy isn't any way to go about selling ponies, either.

Just seemed a little weird they wouldn't tell me which ponies.

I hope you can get it sorted

I was just wondering, how should I feel about this person, and then I saw this. She contacted me too, offering one of the ponies of my wanted-list and some others. I asked some pictures but she´s asking my email address to send them there. I got a little strange feeling about this.
If she really is kindly selling ponies, I apologize of my suspisions. But since others have same kinds of experiences, I just wanted to let you all know. Hope I´m wrong!

could it be that she hasn't reached the age limit to sell on the arena, yet?
maybe she emailed you to go around this rule?

on the other hand, i personally woudn't buy anything from a person who can´t tell me the price and instead is being rude about a one hour delay. it is not a chat.

She has contacted me too, on the Arena. But she wanted to trade Ponies with me, she wanted my Dutch Butterfly and Dutch Candy. I got 3 PM's, and even tho I don't have a lot of feedback myself, I was kind off scared.

I know that I am an honest person, and that I would ship out my Ponies. And if the person I was trading with has loads of feedback, I wouldn't mind shipping my package out first. As long as I know they are reliable.

TexasGal, just out of curiosity, did you get any pictures?
I don´t want to be rude and suspect anyone without any proof of doing something wrong, like I said, this person may be honest new member. But I started wondering, when a friend of mine said that this person had offered her ponies she doesn´t seek for. And this hurry to get answers sounds a little unusual. I got several messages as well in a short time. But anyway, I hope everything goes fine you all make succesful business here :) I´m not able to buy anything now, but I´ve made excellent deals here, and I´m very happy with the communication I´ve had with my business partners :)

I am sorry. I just wanted to ask for some e mails because that's how I knew how. I don't know how to post with pictures here yet because they are on my cell phone.
Please try not to take it personal but here on the Arena most trades/sales are done through PM. It's not really common to contact someone via email unless you are perhaps a reputable seller here or a personal friend. I suggest updating your sales thread with pictures, feedback from another site, and letting folks contact you through PM's on their own accord.  I would also look over our rules on selling on this site, you will find the link at the top of the For Sale Forum.

You could also upload pictures on Facebook if you have that, and than instead of making it visible for everyone make it "Only Me"  so you can copy the link and post it :)

I too have had her asking to buy a few of my ponies, and I hadn't replied, as I am a full time college student and blogger, and horn had another PM within minutes and it made me angry that I was being pressured. That's why I was put off the sale. In future, I would sell to you, but not if you are pushy. Sorry but that is how I felt.

Good luck as a new member though.

mylittleponysparkle: I think if you checked out www.photobucket.com and made an account there (it's totally free!) that would help you out alot with your pony sales and all of this confusion. You can upload pictures from your phone to that site and then you can easily post them here in your sales thread. If you click on each picture in your photobucket account it will give you an image code you just copy right into your sales thread and the pictures will show up. :)

Everyone is new at one time or another, it just takes time to figure out how things work. Don't be discouraged, ok? We don't mind answering questions or giving suggestions here, this is a very nice community. ^-^

because i came here to say yes me too and i wasn't getting straight answers, no pictures and asked about email, i don't mean to be rude but before the above comment it looked to be like a dodgy spammer.

like another comment too i have always ask brand new peeps in trades to ask for them to send first and they have absolute no problems with that, maybe they would like to do that but its so frustrating when not getting your questions answered

I will say that I gave her my email address for the pictures, and she provided them. I got the ponies today and there was no issue. She has an etsy site too where the pictures are listed. I think maybe she just needs to get used to the interface here, with some help from our good suggestions. But my experience was pleasant.

I'm glad to see that the trade worked out.  I still felt very wary though, when after I told her I was feeling uncomfortable and only wanted to purchase one pony instead of bunches as she was offering to sell, she never would give me the price on it.  Just out of curiosity, what did she quote you on Vanilla Treat?  I got really confused and when I asked later on for the prices for just her, I got no response at all about it.  I just found it all confusing.  Maybe it was just me, as I was loopy from my new medicines for my seizures, but I just couldn't understand the prices of the one pony.

I do hope things go smoother in the future, and that you have many more successful trades on here.  =]

I had a strange experience with her too. I had posted I was looking for UK G1s and she answered me and asked to email pictures. I was interested in Vanilla Treats but she wanted $40.  I told her there was one on ebay of a BIN of $20. So she lowered the price to $15. Then she said she would sell anothe UK pony for $15. So while we were discussing this, I saw her want thread for Edgar Elephant. I had an Edgar Elephant that I was going to list on ebay for $30. So I thought it was the perfect opportunity for a trade. I asked her and she said it would be fair to trade Vanilla Treats for Edgar which didn't make sense since she had just offered both for $30. At this point, I got tired of negotiating with her and politely told her never mind. Since she was a newbie I just didn't feel comfortable doing a trade with her. I thought the communication with her was weird. But she was nice but didn't seem to understand how trades worked.

Its okay! It sounds like you are getting the hang of things. You sold two ponies and it went well so congrats!  But you might want to sign up for a photo hosting site. ;)

You could use imgur.com, they don't require an account! Also, price check threads are a godsend.

Yes, I found that the prices for the two were reasonable. She even refunded my shipping because she shipped a day later than planned.

mylittleponysparkle, I hope that the suggestions become useful for you. Communication is key for deals and trades, and photobucket or comparable sites are free and great to use for posting pictures here. I know I myself get antsy when I don't hear back for a few days about a deal. As for prices the Pony coral is a great place to ask for prices or you can look up average prices on ebay for ended listings. Thanks again for the sale.

I've found younger people often react like this since many of them communicate via text and not texting back immediately is deemed rude or worrisome. The IM world is getting faster and faster and people need to realize that PM's are not the same as texts...we don't get an alert when we receive one!
I guess it all comes down to simple communication gaps :)

Mylittleponysparkle there's a lot of good advice for new members in this thread so it might help to write a few down and then you'll know how things work for next time. Having a photobucket account or similar will help with your sales and trades too .  Also keep in mind that some members are online more than others and people are really busy at this time of year , so its usually best to give someone a few days to reply- especially if theres a weekend/holiday ;)

Communication is soooo important. If the communication isnt good early on, then its best not to go any further anyways in my experience  ;)   - if there is difficulty with communication at an early stage then chances are  its not going to be any easier (and probably worse) when it comes to any possible problems with the transaction such as shipping issues, postal delays, unmentioned flaws etc .
Not saying that this is the case with this particular seller but speaking in general :awake:

I second this. It sounds as if this person is just new or young and isn't sure how a sale/trade is properly done.

Does anyone else think it's a little odd that this thread keeps getting resurrected?  The original buyer thought it was "weird" that she was contacted through email.

Personally, I don't find that weird- especially since PMs sometimes go awry or appear read when they are new, etc.  Said newbie immediately responded and explained that she didn't realize the person hadn't wanted to be contacted via email.  They then had a perfectly great transaction.

How on earth is the fact that a newbie was unable to answer specific questions about a trade worthy of a "trader support" post?   Has she actually done anything wrong?  Because I'm not seeing it.

The purpose of some of the conversation in this is that it is instruction and offering of suggestions.  I don't see anything wrong in that at all.  There were other members coming forward saying how curious the situation was, and I have received several private PMs about similar situations with the same person.  It's not that she is in trouble or has done something wrong, and no one is chewing her out.  We are all merely discussing that.  If you don't like to read it, you don't have to, hon.  It's just trying to offer up some suggestions to make things a bit easier to understand for newer members, and comparing some similar stories from before, so that myself, and others who have gone through similar situations, know they haven't been alone.  It is both instructional and supportive.

Also, I DO find it very weird I was contacted via email.  I prefer PMs on here, as I believe many others do.  I don't know that for a fact, but I am guessing, based on prior conversations.  What WAS wrong, was that the SELLER was evasive multiple times to multiple people about ponies and conditions.  That has been mentioned several times on here.  Most of the people who were interested took it as a sign to step away and did not pursue the trade/purchase further.  I understand it takes time to answer back, as that was my big beef with her in the first place about hustling me after only an hour of not answering her.  But, I do have a problem when someone is asked a direct question and they will not answer it, especially if it's happened with multiple people, as it has been stated here.  MyLittlePonySparkle, I am not worried about it anymore, and I'm not referring to you specifically, just in general to anyone.  It's a common courtesy to at least answer someone.  That is what I am taking from the posts here, and I don't see this as keeping on being resurrected, just a conversation continuing.

Again, please don't be upset if others wish to continue talking about a topic.  It's just that, a conversation among friends, trying to clear the air and get stories out so we all know we aren't alone in the Arena.  I think everyone has been very kind to Sparkle and given her some great advice, and I'm very glad she had a trade with someone on here.  It's a great start!  Do I trust her personally yet? Not sure.  But, I am grateful to listed to some of the other members, both older and younger, who have had more experience with good and bad trades than me.  It helps me to learn and grow as a collector.

I'm sorry, I didn't want to offend anyone, and I certainly don't now.  I just don't think it's a bad thing to keep discussing something, when it is especially not bashing someone, and when it is just trying to be a general help discussion by this point.

Well it sounds like there is probably more to this trader than what is being said- if people have had poor experiences with someone here or on ebay, they should come right out and post about it.  I do agree that not getting back to people right away and giving lots of details is not fantastic, and do agree with the suggestions that the member provide more details.  But if there is a seller that is known for intentionally obfuscating details on ebay or something, I think that people should come right out and share their experiences so that we can all avoid that trap.

Regarding the email issue, my suggestion to TexasGal may be to make your email private so that people can't contact you if you don't want them to? Isn't that an option?  Personally I think it is a good practice to exchange emails with newbie buyers/sellers.  That way when they drop off the planet or don't realize they have a new PM, you have a way of contacting.   I also don't think it is TOO uncommon for newbies to respond to PMS through their email- with a message to poor Stomper rather than to you. (I will admit I've done that before myself).  However, I can understand that an email out of the blue could be confusing if you don't know where it is coming from or in what context.

Honestly I read this post at first as being a young new pony trader who wasn't doing a great job at communication, and eventually mended her ways, and honestly felt sorry for her.

But if this person is an experienced ebay seller who has sold ponies for years, than I have considerably less sympathy.

So.... a little update about this seller.... I am really not happy

So like everyone else I got the email after email after email.... (originally good communication I thought)

I did want to buy MLP friend Hoppy from her but at that time I did not have the funds for her. So I said thank you but atm sorry I can't. All was fine. Then she suggested we could do a trade as there was a pony she wanted of mine (Sundance).

I looked at her feed back on Ebay, Etsy & Bonazza (think that is the name of the 3rd) all feedback looked positive & as Elish2 had a good transaction with her I thought ok why not . So we both okayed this I got her address & she got mine to send them too. I sent mine on the 26th of November. (I have the post office receipt to prove this). I sent her a message on Thanksgiving weekend asking her if she had sent mine yet and that I had sent her's on the 26th (I didn't realise it was thanksgiving as im from the UK :p) she sent a message back to me on the 1st saying she will send it the next day as she was celebrating the holiday (I was ok with this as I didnt realise in the first place)

So now its the 29th of dec :( and I have no Hoppy & no response from her. I sent her a couple more messages at the beginning of dec saying the same thing (I had sent hers had she managed to send mine). Then I sent her a message before christmas (about a week I think) asking if she had got my pony I sent her yet (she should of by now all the ponies I sent in December had got to their new homes by this point).... No response.... still no Hoppy.... So I messaged her again on Etsy, here & her email.... No response :( ..... she was on MLParena on the 14th I had already sent a message to her email the day before this so she had been online :( .... I see she hasn't read her message on here or been back on since I messaged on here.... but as we all know we can read messages on our email first :( .....

Ponylady has been trying to help me :) (btw ponylady sorry for the slow message on here again my cold is getting worse :(  )

But basically think its a big bummer for me  just wanted to warn you all to NOT buy from her, I have tried to give her lots of time to reply as I know its Christmas but as have seen she was on here on the 14th Dec and I sent messages before that.... They I am afraid I have to assume she is ignoring me and has stolen poor Sundance :(

Hope no one else has this problem, sorry if there are bad spelling mistakes and grammar or sentence's that don't make sense in this message btw :P I have a horrible cold

Hope you all have had a amazing Christmas & a great New Year  ^.^

I just saw this thread... I too have had dealings with this member.  She contacted me about my ebay listings (like 7 messages within minutes) and she promised to buy several and send a couple payments.  Long story short, she strung me along for several weeks with only one payment made and was largely unresponsive.  I ended up just cancelling the whole thing and chalked it up to her being new and young.  I did not want to neg her over it, but maybe I should have.  :(

Thanks for posting Lollipop and AJG.

Hopefully she will come on to explain what has happened to Lollipops end of the trade. Otherwise I would probably steer clear of any transactions with her at the moment.

Thank you everyone.

Yeah is a bit of a bummer really wanted hoppy :( just don't understand when people are like this no need for it, don't like the thought of sundance going to someone who doesn't deserve her either :(

Well at least i had something to cheer me up today, baby Dutch cat arrived today :D surprise extra Xmas present from my boyfriend, just need my cold to go now then maybe can start the new year on a positive.

Would be good if she does come back and explain herself though :(

Hope you all have a lovely new year :)

With a heavy heart I am in the middle of a Paypal dispute with this seller. I chatted with this girl over a UK Love Letter Here on the arena. I sent her money via Paypal, and with no response to any of my emails or PMs here, I have opened up a claim against her. The claim was opened up due to no responses & no pony mail my way. I was looking forward to getting Love Letter too. But Im glad I didn't buy anymore than that. Hopeful Love Letter gets here and I can close this dispute, but I don't feel it will come. I have never left bad feedback here on the arena, but I fear I will have to  :(
Paypal, is waiting to hear back from this seller & she has until the 11th of Jan to respond back :(

Since I have never had to open up a claim before, I was wondering what happens when Paypal does not hear from the seller?  Thanks everyone!

I'm so sorry to hear you are also having issues with this seller Tiffy  :(   I hope that you do get your pony or at least a refund quickly

If the seller doesnt respond then it will go automatically in your favor and you'll get refunded by Paypal

Thanks so much for the fast response to my question  :)
I hope the outcome is good, there is no reason for it not to be in my favor. Hopefully this person does come back and explain too.

I have had some weird and bad issues from her on ebay. I actually just figured out who she was recently because she was messaging me wanting to trade and I could not get a straight answer out of her about the condition or which ponies she even had....it immediately sent up a dejavu red flag like hey...this is familiar...Well I did a little searching on etsy and ebay and sure enough it is the same girl. She seems very nice and all but sells ponies not as described and intentionally hides flaws in pictures, her ebay feedback is not the best as well. I bought several ponies from her and over half were not as described, she did do a partial refund though when I questioned her about it.... I also had a few very weird instances with her where she would buy some of my ponies on ebay and then not even a week after she gets them she resells them...but for a way lower price :/ very odd because my ponies are well described with clear pics, I also saw several other seller's ponies being re-sold shortly after her getting them, which is fine I mean a lot of us resell but why at a lower price?? why would she do that and lose money  anyway just thought I would give everyone a heads up because she is a bit sketchy and a good transaction with her is at about 50% chance or less in my experience :(

She offered me a sundance, I don't know if it was yours, but heres one of the PMs:
I asked her what G1s and G3s she had. Her reply was:

G 1- UK Pink Love Letter, Moondancer, Musictime Re Hair, Snuzzle, Magic Star, Magic Hat, Sundance, Speedy, Princess Pink, and more.

G 3- Soda Pop, Party Cake with Hat, Pink Flowers, Blue Flowers with Outfit, Baby Crystal, Goodie Goodie and more.

Just as additional information on her activity...  Here's my experience with her:

-On November 14th, she pm’ed me about of the ponies I had for sale.  She asked if I could hold her for me since she “liked that one.”  I responded immediately saying that she was still available, and I asked her how long she’d like me to hold her for.

-On November 15th she said she could pay by Saturday (November 16th).  I said that sounded good to me.  I said she could either send money to my paypal (I provided her my e-mail address) or I could send her an invoice if she’d prefer that.  I asked if she needed any other photos or description other than what was provided in my sales thread.  I asked her also to please send me a pm on the arena after she sent the payment – and I wanted her to verify her mailing address to make sure the pony got to the right place.  (I’m paranoid about Paypal reverting default addresses back to old residences if the person has moved, etc.  I can’t help it, lol.  I’m a worrier.)

-She sent me a pm on November 16th thanking me for sending my Paypal e-mail address information.  I waited.  November 16th came and went with no payment.  I, however, understand things happen in real life and maybe she just was unable to sign onto the internet that day.

-On November 17th she asked me to send her an invoice to her e-mail address (I can provide it if it’d help anyone.  I don’t know if it’s too personal to post her e-mail address??).  I sent her the invoice via Paypal, and again via Arena pm I asked her to let me know when she sent the payment and to verify her mailing address to ensure the pony would get to her safely.

-….I waited.  I waited….Nothing.

-On November 20th, I sent her a pm saying I could only hold the pony for one more day for her (until the end of the day).  I requested that she either send the money to my paypal address or use the invoice I sent her earlier.  She sent a pm back to me saying she understood and she could “pay by Friday [November 22nd] but that’s ok.”

-No payment was ever received.  I did not respond to her last message.

-But then - On December 6th, she sent me a pm saying: “I apologize about something coming up in my life where I was unable to pay for the pony that day. Do you have any more G 1s? Thanks!”

I did not respond.  It all just seemed too sketchy for me.

I’m sorry so many of you are having issues with her.  She seemed nice enough over pm, but she seemed a little too scattered and unsure for me to be confident in continuing to try to deal with her.

I sure hope everyone gets things straightened out with a positive outcome!  This is not a positive way to try to enter into the community.  :-\  So it sounds like she has multiple eBay ids from what you guys have said?  That sounds either like a kid who doesn't know what they're doing - or a scammer.  Ugh.  Fingers crossed for the best.

Don't feel bad.  It's not like you scammed everyone else :)  You had a good experience with her, so there's no reason you shouldn't share that!  Sometimes it's hard to get established in a community, and you were just trying to help her out since you actually had a good experience.  I wish the other experiences would have also been positive!  Eek!

the ebay name she gave me was mylittleponyexpress2013, with (according to her) 100% positive feedback for buying.  Her etsy store is mylittleponyexpress.  I haven't looked into it yet, but I am definitely going to be very careful.

So she is just giving people a ebay user id that has only been open for 2 months and only has buying feedback....not selling, she has recent feedback as of November 2013 on her "real account" (mylittlepony0711) so it looks like she is using both and just started the new one so she wouldn't have to use her old one with its bad feedback as a reference.

Right so my issue looks to have been resolved (over 2 months later). I will let you all know if Hoppy turns up this time I do however this time have a tracking number  ^.^

I never did get an explanation as to why she never sent it in the first place. She is polite & friendly when you can actually get to talk to her. The Conversations can get a little confusing though. So I am still not sure what happened before as I said (I did ask again) maybe it was just because it was around Christmas time I do not know .... all very confusing though.
