Title: G1 glitter recommendations?
Post by: Prince_Sunbeam on September 19, 2016, 04:51:55 PM
Is there any particular brand or type of glitter that is the best for reglittering G1s?

Either glitter paint or, if that is not available, fine glitter mixed in some liquid gloss varnish.

I was fortunate enough to obtain some Martha Stewart glitter from my late grandmother. It's a very fine micro glitter and I have a variety of colors. They seem to be about $18.00 on Amazon for a 24 pack of essential colors from her line, and they really look nice on the ponies! I was able to reglitter my Flutterbye with it and it turned out really well!

The other day i saw a post about glittery symbols and Cartwright’s glitter was one of the best matches. You can buy it online. It has a ton of colors!

I use a very fine microglitter for restoring G1's. I apply it using my sealant (mod podge or similar) and then sprinkling on top. Sometimes it needs two 'coats'. I don't have any pictures on hand but I know the lady who runs the MLP Preservation Project website has pictures of the Glory I restored on there: http://www.mlppreservationproject.com/symbols.html
I got it off ebay, there are several sellers on there selling the same glitter - I've also seen it on amazon. There are a good range of colours and so far they've matched any G1 I've restored. For reference here are the ones I bought recently: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261469601701?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&var=560348698376&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I recently bought them all in pots as the ones I had were in bags and have gone missing  so I now have all the dust colours. Which pony are you restoring? If I've got her I'll see if I can match the colour up for you so you know which set to get :)

Edit: I'm an idiot, the MLP preservation project has a link to my Arena thread

I've been re-glittering some symbols on G1 and finding that for a lot of the year 1 and year 2 ponies the glitter on symbols is just SO fine. Finer than almost any craft glitter i have (and I have so much glitter... I work as as a set builder and painter) As a glitter lover in all areas of my life..... Nail art glitter and cosmetic grade glitter is about the finest/smallest size glitter you can get. Sometimes the nail art sets on eBay or cosmetic stores will have a lot of colors in there.

I love Glittermyworld.com ... they are based in the USA and offer great deals/sales and good prices. They have so many colors and all grades of glitter. You can join their "Glitter Club" for special discounts. They also ship really, really fast.

Edited to add: glitter my world's website is www.bulkglitters.com --

I analyzed my glittery G1 a little while ago and found that Hasbro used just like 6 or 8 glitter colours over and over on the glittery symbols ponies. Could you perhaps tell which Cartwright colours these are so that I won't have to get lots of colours and send back those who are not matching? I remember there was "Electric Blue" stated as an exact match for Firefly's symbol, I even remember to have seen that on the Preservation Project website but can't find it there anymore.
